The purpose of the research is studying the oribatid mite biodiversity on the Dagestan pastures in terms of altitudinal zonation and their infection with Moniezia sp. procercoids.Materials and methods. Oribatid mites were collected in different seasons of 1990–2020 on different types of pastures of the plain, foothill, and mountain belts of Dagestan. A total of 16,000 specimens of oribatid mites were collected. 120 sets of lamb intestines were dissected. Oribatid mites were collected using the Tulgren funnel. The method of complete helminthological dissection according to K. I. Skrjabin was used in the work.Results and discussion. On low-lying wet pastures of the flat belt, up to 5800 oribatid specimens were recorded per 1 m² with 38.0% prevalence of infection (PI) with moniezia cysticercoids; 675 specimens were collected on the steppe lands with the PI of 12.5%, up to 140 specimens were collected on salt marshes with the PI 0.9%, and 52 specimens were collected in the semi-deserts with the PI 0.4%. In the foothill steppes, 1,300 oribatids specimens were found per 1 m² with their procercoid infeсtion up to 18.0%, 2100 specimens with 16.0% were collected along river valleys, and 120 specimens with the PI of 0.5% on mountain plateaus. Lambs on low-lying wetlands of the lowland belt were infected with Moniezia sp. by 72.0% with the infection intensity (II) of 8-116 specimens, on steppe pastures by 67.5% at the II of 5–36 specimens, on salt marshes by 18.0% with the II of 2–8 specimens, and in semi-deserts by 12.0% with the II of 2–5 specimens. In the foothill steppes, lambs were infected with Moniezia sp. by 68.0% with the II of 9–64 specimens, along river valleys by 69.0% with the II of 11–62 specimens, and on mountain plateaus by 12.0% with the II of 2–4 specimens.

Knowledge of the oribatid mite community from Patagonian steppe is scarce compared with other environments, such as the Andean-Patagonian forest. In the present research we identified oribatid mites under different environmental conditions: two Patagonian steppe types (grass and shrub), two soil characteristics (bare and covered soil) and two different seasons (autumn and spring). A total of 42 species/morphospecies were found, 13 were new records for Chubut and one was a new record for Argentina. In view of its ecological role in soil formation, it is fundamental that knowledge about this fauna is enhanced in order to provide baselines for study and to aid further understanding about its ecology.

Abstract In different types of substrate (soil, litter, lichens and mosses) collected at three memorial complexes (cemeteries) of Kyiv (Ukraine), 70 species from 57 genera, 34 families of oribatid mites were found. A few eurytopic species capable of tolerance to different types of pollution make up an essential part in each species complex. The species diversity and complexity of oribatid community structure at researched areas increased with distance from the city center. There was no direct relation between the degree of dominance of most common species and the cemetery’s relative remoteness from the center of the city.

The present study is based on oribatid mite material (Acari, Oribatida) collected from Tam Dao National Park (Northern Vietnam) in 1988. A list of identified taxa, including 119 species from 80 genera and 47 families, is presented; of these, 13 species (Epilohmannoides rabori, Camisia spinifer, Sadocepheus undulatus, Eremobelba flexuosa, Hammerella excisa, Suctobelbella inenodabilis, Dolicheremaeus auritus, Eupelops acromios, Protoribates genitalis, Allogalumna machadoi, Carinogalumna philippinensis, Pergalumna magnipora capillaris, Galumnella nipponica) and five genera (Epilohmannoides, Camisia, Sadocepheus, Brassiella, Carinogalumna) are recorded in the Vietnamese fauna for the first time, and two species (Tokunocepheus mizusawai, Flagellozetes (Cosmogalumna) ornatus), one genus (Tokunocepheus) and one family (Tokunocepheidae) are recorded in the Oriental region for the first time. Two new species are described: Ramusella paraarcuata sp. nov. differs from Ramusella arcuata Mahunka & Mahunka-Papp, 2012 by the larger body size, lamellar setae similar in length and thickness to interlamellar setae, the presence of two or three branches on bothridial setae, and the absence of notogastral setae c. Neoribates paragracilis sp. nov. differs from Neoribates gracilis Travé, 1972 by the larger body size, and the presence of long apex (not shorter than head) on bothridial setae.

The present study is based on oribatid mite material (Acari, Oribatida) collected from the city of Hanoi in Northern Vietnam. A list of identified taxa, including 68 species from 49 genera and 32 families, is presented; of these, ten species (Trhypochthonius japonicus, Nothrus oblongus, Hermanniella aliverdievae, Arthrodamaeus decemsetiger, Arcoppia fenestralis orientalis, Ramusella puertomonttensis, Allosuctobelba grandis, Scheloribates elegans, Neoribates gracilis, Pergalumna corniculata) and one genus (Trhypochthonius) are recorded in the Vietnamese fauna for the first time; seven species (Xenillus selgae, Arcoppia curtipila, Cycloppia granulata, Hammerella gracilis, Allosuctobelba tricuspidata, Ceratozetoides maximus, Protoribates hakonensis) and one genus (Ceratozetoides) are recorded in the Oriental region for the first time. Two new species belonging to the genera Allosuctobelba and Oribatella are described: Allosuctobelba alexanderkhaustovi sp. nov. differs from Allosuctobelba tricuspidata tricuspidata Aoki, 1984 in the rostrum having three to four lateral teeth and very long notogastral setae positioned in two parallel rows; Oribatella pavelklimovi sp. nov. differs from Oribatella kunsti Bernini, 1972 by the granulate body surface, setiform  aggenital setae and the dorsolateral position of notogastral setae lm and lp.

The oribatid mite family Astegistidae is represented in Mongolia by four species in two genera. A new species, Cultroribula taigagica sp. nov., collected from cool temperate forests in Northern Mongolia is described based on adults. In addition, three known species, Astegistes pilosus (C.L. Koch, 1840), Cultroribula dentata Willmann, 1950 and Cultroribula vtorovi Krivolutsly, 1971 are recorded for the first time from Mongolia, which are redescribed along with data on their distribution and ecology. A key to Mongolian species of Astegistidae is given.

Oribatid mites (Acari, Oribatida) of bushy patches in steppe vegetation of cape Tarkhankut in Crimea (Ukraine)The density, species number, and age structure of oribatid mites were investigated in bushy patches (elm, hawthorn, hawthorn with rose) in steppe vegetation of cape Tarkhankut (Crimea). In these patches, the density of mites in shrub litter, herbs and moss was higher, but species number was similar like in open steppe vegetation. Hawthorn increased the density distinctly more than hawthorn with rose or bushy elms. In bushy patches, the samples of moss were richer in mites than samples of shrub litter alone or with herbs. Among oribatid mites,Chamobatesc.f.spinosusandTrhypochthonius tectorumwere most abundant, but relatively abundant and common were alsoTectocepheus velatus, Oribatulasp. 1,Achipteria nitens, andBrachychthonius berlesei. In oribatid mite communities, adults dominated, but the age structure of populations greatly depended on vegetation type.

The effects of partial and clear-cut harvesting on abundance and community composition of forest floor microarthropods and oribatid mites were investigated in conifer and deciduous stands of the mixedwood boreal forest. Soil samples from clearcuts, strip-cut corridors in a partial cut, green-tree retention patches in a partial cut, and uncut control sites were collected 2.5 years after harvest and microarthropods were extracted, enumerated, and identified. Densities of microarthropod suborders were lower in the strip-cut corridors of the deciduous stands and significantly lower in the suborder Oribatida (oribatid mites). Changes in microarthropod community composition, decreased relative abundance of prostigmatid mites, and increased relative abundance of mesostigmatid mites were observed in corridor and clear-cut treatments. Lowered abundances and changes in community composition are likely due to compaction of the forest floor during harvesting. Selected oribatid mite species showed significantly lower abundances in clearcuts than in uncut sites, but diversity indices for oribatid mites were generally not significantly different between uncut sites and clearcuts. Changes in oribatid mite communities following harvesting were thus more quantitative (absolute abundance) than qualitative (diversity, composition), and as a result, use of oribatid mites as biological indicators of disturbance is limited because of the lack of changes in species composition.

Abstract Oribatid mite communities were investigated in southern Italy in litter under yew, pine and cypress trees. These mites achieved the highest density in yew and cypress litter in a park in the inland town of Caserta, and the lowest density in pine litter at the coast of Capo Vaticano. In these mite communities, only 1-4 species were abundant, so the Shannon index H’ was rather low. The density of oribatid mites, species number, and dominance structure depended greatly on the kind of litter. The most abundant and common was Zygoribatula propinqua, but the highest density in yew litter was achieved by Oribatella superbula. In oribatid mite communities, the juveniles usually dominated, but the age structure of species greatly depended on the kind of litter.

The present study is based on oribatid mite material (Acari, Oribatida) collected from six localities in Ethiopia during 2013. A list of identified taxa, including 60 species from 45 genera and 30 families, is provided; of these, eight species are recorded in the fauna of this country for the first time, and one species is recorded in the Ethiopian region for the first time. A new species of the genus Wallworkoppia (Oppiidae) is described from litter and fallen leaves in a Juniperus forest; W. tetraciliata Ermilov sp. nov. differs from W. secata (Mahunka, 1999), W. parasensilla (Mahunka, 1999), W. tuberosa (Mahunka, 1988) and W. vibrissa (Mahunka, 1983) by the rounded rostrum (versus tripartite rostrum). An identification key to known species of Wallworkoppia is updated.
