The article presents the results of computer simulation of the crystallization of castings from high-speed steel R6M5, intended for the manufacture of cutters and gear shaping tools in the conditions of OJSC “Minsk Gear Plant”. The use of modeling made it possible to optimize the gating system, reduce this volume of the profitable part by 30–35 % and increase the yield of suitable casting, which made it possible to reduce the consumption of expensive alloying elements introduced into the melt to compensate for burnout during melting and casting.

Cutting steel is required to have high wear resistance with certain hardness and deformation resistance. The commonly used machinery material for meat processing in china is 4Cr13, which is far inferior to the imported German steel X80CrVMo13-2. After studying the influence of different heat treatment process on its wear resistance, we have come to the following conclusion: X80CrVMo13-2 steel, after quenched at 1050°C and tempered at 500°C, has an excellent wear resistance and 4Cr13 steel, after normalized at 1010°C and tempered at 500°C has a fairly good wear resistance.

Abstract. A promising method for improving wear resistance of metal cutting tools including pre-heating and a subsequent impact of the pulsed magnetic field of high intensity on the cutting tool is proposed. The experimental setup and methods of research are described. Experimental studies of surfaces of carbide reversible cutting plates of the VK8, T15K6 alloy and drills of high speed steel R6M5 to assess the effectiveness of the proposed method were performed. An increase in wear resistance of cutting tools made of the T15K6 hard-alloy plates by 30% and made of the VK8 alloy plates by 13% was revealed while wear resistance of drills made of steel R6M5 increased on average by 58% The proposed method can be of practical interest for hardening the surface of other types of tools and machine parts for further experimental verification.

Developed a new method of electrolytic-plasma nitriding, which enable to carry out surface modification of high-speed steels and provide the high kinetic energy efficiency of diffusion saturation process. . Implementation of electrolytic-plasma nitriding of high-speed steel R6M5 in the optimal mode was determined, which leads to a significant increase in hardness and wear-resistance of the high-speed steel surface layer. It is experimentally established, that after nitriding of electrolytic-plasma heating on the surface of high-speed steel R6M5 formed the modified layer, which has high abrasive wear resistance as compared with the source material.
