This article discusses the notion of educational leadership, the function of educational leadership, and how the principal's leadership style. Educational leadership is the ability to influence, coordinate, and mobilize other people that have to do with the implementation and development of education in order to achieve the goal of education or school effectively and efficiently. For the purpose of school to be achieved effectively and efficiently requires effective leadership of the principal. There are seven characteristics of effective principal leadership: (1) having a clear vision, (2) having high expectations of achievement; (3) programming and providing positive and constructive feedback, (4) encouraging efficient use of time, (5) utilizing various learning resources, (6), monitoring the progress of learners individually or in groups, (7) and continuous improvement.

<pre><em>As an educational leadership, principals have a duty and responsibility which is quite heavy. The style or way of a principal in leading an organization greatly determines teachers' performance under his leadership. This study aims to assess the principal's leadership style, which can improve teacher performance. This research uses literature review research. The writings reviewed in this study are articles with the keywords of principal leadership, leadership best practices and teacher performance. This study uses 15 articles published in the 2010-2020 period. In the data analysis process, we conducted an analysis of leadership styles that have succeeded in increasing teacher competence based on the results of previous studies. This study shows that (1) principals who apply a leadership style that can provide motivation and provide change for their subordinates are proven to improve an educator's performance. (2) principals who apply democratic, responsible and managerial leadership styles can improve teacher performance (3) principals who apply leadership styles that are comfortable, conducive and skilled at work can improve teacher performance. (4) principals who apply a leadership style that is skilled in solving problems and influencing their subordinates in terms of kindness are proven to increase educators' performance. (5) Leaders who have a clear vision and mission that are strong, have hope, protect, encourage, and guide their subordinates to do work according to their duties and functions, this leadership style can improve educators' performance.

<p>Effective principal leadership is a leadership that can foster cooperative efforts and maintain an ideal working climate in schools. The purpose of this research is to know the effectiveness leadership of the principal of the 2<sup>nd</sup> State Junior High School of Ambon, with qualitative approach. Data sources include school principals, vice principals, heads of administration, heads of affairs, library coordinators, teacher subject coordinators, counselors coordinators, and school supervisors. Data collection techniques through Focus Group Discussion, Interview, Observation, and documentation study. The analysis technique used is descriptive narrative. The results concluded that the leadership style of principal in the 2<sup>nd</sup> State Junior High School of Ambon has not been effective.</p>

Tulisan ini disusun sebagai panduan bagi kepala madrasah untuk mempraktikkan gaya kepemimpinan transformasional agar guru dan karyawan di madrasah memiliki kesiapan dalam implementasi kurikulum 2013. Ada enam peran yang dimainkan oleh kepala madrasah dalam praktik kepemimpinan transformasionalnya. Pertama, melakukan sosialisasi kurikulum 2013. Kedua, membina pribadi guru dan karyawan dengan melakukan pembinaan mental, pembinaan moral, pembinaan fisik, dan pembinaan artistik. Ketiga, membina pribadi peserta didik. Keempat, mengubah paradigma guru. Kelima, memenuhi berbagai fasilitas dan sumber belajar yang mendukung dalam implementasi kurikulum 2013. Keenam, menciptakan lingkungan madrasah yang kondusif-akademik, baik secara fisik maupun nonfisik. This paper is organized as a guide for the headmaster to practice transformational leadership style so that the teachers and staff at the school ready to apply the 2013 curriculum. There are six roles that play by the headmaster in the practice of transformational leadership. First role is to disseminate the curriculum of 2013. Second role is fostering teachers and employees personality to perform mental, moral, physical, and artistic development. Third role is fostering the learners’ personality. Fourth role is changing the paradigm of teachers. Fifth role is fulfilling a variety of facilities and learning resources that support the implementation of the 2013 curriculum. Sixth role is creating an academic-supported environment in madrasah both physical and nonphysical.
