Controversies based on opposing points of view and contradictory evidence can be fruitful to trigger individual elaboration processes. However, research showed that many wikis are not necessarily suited to make relevant content salient and thus users need further guidance. In an experimental laboratory study on wikis, we investigated two guidance types in conjunction with the Need for Cognitive Closure: (1) visual markers to highlight controversy status (implicit guidance) and (2) a collaboration script that directs users towards discussions (explicit guidance). We analysed the quality of N = 724 wiki contributions, namely final edits to an article and corresponding discussion replies. The results show that both guidance types do neither directly affect the user contributions to the wiki nor the learning outcome. In interaction with the individual Need for Cognitive Closure there was a meaningful effect on the quality of discussion contributions, matching previous research findings on the quantitative learning outcomes.

The data provides support for differences in the learning success depending on the provided guidance type and the individual Need for Cognitive Closure.

Healthcare institutions are organizations with a complex structure where there is a high work stress and it is of utmost importance that services are provided without errors in this complexity. Nowadays, when the hospital management becomes increasingly complex, hospital managers are in a position that influences the success of the hospitals the most. While this situation necessitates the managers to use their time in a more rational and efficient manner, giving a senseless workload to the managers would surely negatively affect the individual and organizational productivity (Karsavuran, 2014). In other words, exposure of the healthcare professionals to mobbing in the professional life causes depressive symptoms to arise, this situation leading to the individual negatively evaluating the quality of his life. As a result, decrease in the job satisfaction of the individual, low performance and reluctance towards the job occur (Yavuzer and Civilidag, 2014).   Therefore, it is proposed to clarify the arrangements that prevent managers from applying psychological abuse to their subordinates when determining the superior-subordinate relationships (Yıldız et al., 2013). In this study the titles will include definition of mobbing in health sector, results of mobbing.

Abstract. Research on moral foundations theory has found that liberals typically favor the individualizing foundations (i.e., concern for the individual) but typically oppose the binding foundations (i.e., concern for the group). We propose that need for cognitive closure (NFC) can explain when liberals will favor the binding foundations. In two studies, we found that liberals in Italy and the United States were more likely to endorse the binding foundations when they had high NFC. Overall, these results suggest that researchers should strive to understand the interaction between individuals’ epistemic goals and their political orientations in order to accurately predict how they will perceive political issues.

Purpose More research is required into the underlying reasons for passive innovation resistance. This paper aims to propose that consumers who passively resist innovation may merely be conservative in nature and explore a conceptual framework that could explain and predict such behaviour. Design/methodology/approach Theories from the political sciences, social psychology and marketing were studied in trying to understand why some consumers are more conservative in nature and how their attitudes may affect their thoughts, feelings and actions in the marketplace. Findings Consumers may develop conservative attitudes, such as a need for cognitive closure, nostalgia, authoritarianism, a social dominance orientation, ethnocentrism and an anti-hedonic approach towards life to combat their fear of ambiguous situations and chaos associated with deviance from in-group values. Ultimately, these attitudes may influence consumer behaviour, such as being brand loyal, unwilling to try new options and preferring nostalgic products that would lead to lower levels of ambiguity and less disruption of the status quo. Conservative consumers may also act as authoritarian parents, prefer to purchase durable materialistic products, support locally manufactured goods and refrain from purchasing products for purely hedonic pleasure in an attempt to preserve their in-group values. Originality/value The proposed framework offers more insight into the nature and consequences of passive innovation resistance and may serve as a starting point for further exploration on the fundamental characteristics of conservative consumers. The research findings may also assist marketers in managing their new product innovations strategies more successfully.

Research has shown that controversies grounded on opposing points of view and contradictory evidence can be fruitful to trigger individual elaboration processes. But it has also been shown that many wikis are not necessarily suited to identify relevant discussion contents and thus need additional support to guide users. In an experimental study (N = 181) we implemented on a wiki talk page (1) visual controversy status highlights as implicit guidance and (2) a collaboration script directing users towards discussions as explicit guidance. We analyzed their user adoption and influence on wiki activities. Our results show that both experimental additions affect user behaviors and that in particular the visual controversy status highlights are positively adopted by users.
