To feel fear in a specific situation is a normal human experience, however, when this fear or aversion becomes excessive and disrupts the day to day life of an individual, it is said the person suffers from a type of anxiety disorder called phobia. One common type of treatment for phobias is exposure therapy (professionals expose the patient gradually to the feared object or situation).The objective of this paper is to implement a Virtual Reality system that simulates a real highway environment which allows to treat patients affected by highway phobias in a safe place.In cooperation with psychologists and psychiatrists, an action protocol was conducted to create and recreate the variables of the virtual environment to which the patient will be subjected to. Once this was completed, a Virtual Reality application was made that simulates a realistic highway which includes exits, overpasses, underpasses, and tunnels, among others.This hardware/software system will include Oculus Rift DK2 VR glasses in order to create an immersive environment that the patient can consider real and who will be able to interact with it. The performance of the vehicle was programmed through physical responses similar to reality as well as techniques of artificial intelligence in the vehicles that will interact with the one controlled by the patient. Also, this system includes a steering wheel, pedals, and a gearshift (manual or automatic).We think that this system will contribute to treating highway phobias, allowing the psychiatrist or psychologist to carry out therapy in an appropriate manner and through the support of technology the professional will have the ability to simulate the anxiogenic environment in a realistic manner so as to achieve effective treatment. In a future work, we must quantify the possible benefits of this type of VR system in phobia patients.

Abstract We describe DesiRe, a Design Review system based on virtual reality technology. DesiRe is a production virtual reality system that is used to support design review processes during the development of The European Pressurized Water Reactor (EPR). This paper starts with a brief description of the EPR project. We then focus on the design review processes that are an important part of the EPR development processes. We discuss why the use of virtual reality technology significantly improves the design review processes. The subsequent part of the paper introduces in detail the implementation issues and application issues of the virtual reality system DesiRe currently being used by the EPR engineers in their design review meetings. The end of the paper gives an outlook on future work and a brief conclusion. The work presented in this paper is part of an ongoing virtual reality research project at the Heinz Nixdorf Institut and Siemens AG KWU.

ABSTRACTPast decades have seen much effort devoted to the tool development for biomacromolecule structural visualization and analysis. In recent years, we have witnessed tremendous advancement in computational technologies, especially in graphics and internet. Here we present an integrative cloud-based, virtual reality (VR) system -- VRmol that exploits these technology advances to visualize and study macromolecule structures in various forms. The immersive environment can improve user experiences in visualization, calculation, and editing of complex structures with more intuitive perception. VRmol is also a system with cloud-based capability to directly access disease-related databases, and couples the structure with genomic variation as well corresponding drugs information in a visual interface, thus serving as an integrative platform to aid structure-based translational research and drug design. The article considers anxiety as a basic physiological reaction of the human body to a specific situation, but at the same time it becomes a serious threat to society of people of different age groups due to the stressful lifestyle of the modern generation. Anxiety in the process of learning is a frequent phenomenon that has a dual character. On the one hand, normally, mobilizes educational activities. On the other hand, with an increased level of stress, it makes it possible to safely cope with unpleasant emotions. Anxiety in students is manifested most often in the first and final years. In the fifth year, new values associated with future work, material and family.

SummaryA mixture of adsorbed normal human plasma and chicken plasma was prepared as reagent for factor IX measurement using a one-stage method. The substrate was found to be specific for factor IX. Its performances tested on samples displaying factor IX activity ranging from <l%–2,500% compared favorably with those obtained when using the plasma of severe haemophilia B patients as substrate.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a difference could be demonstrated between crystalline insulin extracted from normal human pancreas, and crystalline insulin extracted from bovine and porcine pancreas. Using Hales & Randle's (1963) immunoassay no immunological differences could be demonstrated between human and pig insulin. On the other hand, a significant difference was found, between pig and ox insulin. An attempt was also made to determine whether an immunological difference could be demonstrated between crystalline pig insulin and crystalline human insulin from non diabetic subjects on the one hand and endogenous, circulating insulin from normal subjects, obese subjects and diabetic subjects on the other. No such difference was found. From these experiments it is concluded that endogenous insulin in normal, obese and diabetic human sera is immunologically identical with human, crystalline insulin from non diabetic subjects and crystalline pig insulin.
