Bioclimatic architecture is composed of climate-responsive knowledge in vernacular buildings as an effort to create comfortable conditions. This study aims to evaluate the suitability of the application of bioclimatic design to the performance of the thermal environment in one type of Bugis house. The method used is visual assessment and measurement of temperature and humidity in the case studies of Jida and Lammada houses, South Sulawesi. The results of visual observations show the accuracy of the bioclimatic design on the volume and slope elements of the roof; wall type and material; floor height and shade tree layout. The performance of the thermal environment in the living room and bedroom of Lammada house is better than similar rooms at Jida house. The bioclimatic elements that affect the performance of the thermal environment are the volume of the roof, the type and material of the walls and the height of the floor.

IoT-based monitoring devices can transmit real-time and long-term thermal environment data, enabling innovative conversion for the evaluation and management of the indoor thermal environment. However, long-term indoor thermal measurements using IoT-based devices to investigate health effects have rarely been conducted. Using apartments in Seoul as a case study, we conducted long-term monitoring of thermal environmental using IoT-based real-time wireless sensors. We measured the temperature, relative humidity (RH), and CO2 in the kitchen, living room, and bedrooms of each household over one year. In addition, in one of the houses, velocity and globe temperatures were measured for multiple summer and autumn seasons. Results of our present study indicated that outdoor temperature is an important influencing factor of indoor thermal environment and indoor RH is a good indicator of residents’ lifestyle. Our findings highlighted the need for temperature management in summer, RH management in winter, and kitchen thermal environment management during summer and tropical nights. This study suggested that IoT devices are a potential approach for evaluating personal exposure to indoor thermal environmental risks. In addition, long-term monitoring and analysis is an efficient approach for analyzing complex indoor thermal environments and is a viable method for application in healthcare.

Heat shock is generated from zonal temperature differences. The pre-heating control through an air conditioning system can provide a good thermal environment, and reduce the risk of suffering heat shock in a house and with low energy consumption. In this study, a room air-conditioner (RAC) and air recirculating fan system (ARF) connected to the temperature zone of living room and washing room are applied in a detached house. The design aims to reduce the overconsumption of system energy and fulfil the healthy demand. With low air supply velocity (0.5 m/s) of ARF, the floor supply case can produce a saving of 33.9% energy for RAC to reach the target temperature 20°C in wash room (0.8 m height) in comparison to the ceiling supply case. However, return opening located on the floor was closer to RAC compared to ceiling case, hence, place of return opening should be accounted for energy reduction rate relatively.

Resumo: O litoral cearense do Nordeste brasileiro já registra várias experiências exitosas de turismo comunitário. Porém, o governo do estado continua preterindo esse potencial e subsidiando a instalação de megaempreendimentos que geram poucos empregos com baixas remunerações. Assim, as comunidades litorâneas que protagonizam o turismo comunitário ficam duplamente penalizadas, pois são deixadas à margem das políticas de turismo e seus territórios viram alvos da cobiça de visitantes atraídos pelo marketing dos investimentos públicos realizados. Tomando como estudo de caso a comunidade de Tatajuba, no município de Camocim, no Ceará, este artigo analisa a luta dos povos do mar pelo território, luta essa que não se traduz apenas na defesa do espaço de vivência, mas também na formação de uma rede de territórios solidários articulados ao mundo, que resiste/inova com a proposta do turismo comunitário.  Palavras-chave: Turismo. Thus, the coastal communities who star the community tourism are doubly penalized because they are abandoned by tourism policies and their territories become targets of greed of visitors attracted by the marketing of public investments. Taking as a case study the community of Tatajuba, in Camocim (municipality, Ceará, Brazil), this article examines the struggle of the peoples of the sea through the territory. Por lo tanto, las comunidades costeras que ofrecen el turismo comunitario son doblemente penalizadas porque quedan excluidas de las políticas de turismo y sus territorios se convierten en objeto de la codicia de los visitantes atraídos por la comercialización de las inversiones públicas. Tomando como caso de estudio la comunidad Tatajuba, en el municipio de Camocim, este artículo examina la lucha de los pueblos del mar por el territorio, lucha que no sólo se traduce en la defensa del espacio de vida, sino también en la formación de una red de territorios articulado con el mundo que resiste e innova con la propuesta del turismo comunitario.Palabras clave: Turismo. Space cooling is currently the fastest-growing end-user in buildings. The global warming trend combined with increased population and economic development will lead to accelerated growth in space cooling in the future, especially in China. The hot summer and cold winter (HSCW) zone is the most densely populated and economically developed region in China, but with the worst indoor thermal environment. Relatively few studies have been conducted on the actual measurements in the optimization of insulation design under typical intermittent cooling modes in this region. This case study was conducted in Chengdu—the two residences selected were identical in design, but the south bedroom of the case study residence had interior insulation (inside insulation on all opaque interior surfaces of a space) retrofitted in the bedroom area in 2017. In August 2019, a comparative on-site measurement was done to investigate the effect of the retrofit work under three typical intermittent cooling patterns in the real-life scenario. The experimental result shows that interior insulation provides a significant improvement in energy-saving and the indoor thermal environment. The average energy savings in daily cooling energy consumption of the south bedroom is 42.09%, with the maximum reaching 48.91%. In the bedroom with interior insulation retrofit, the indoor temperature is closer to the set temperature and the vertical temperature difference is smaller during the cooling period; when the air conditioner is off, the room remains a comfortable temperature for a slightly longer time.
