Abstract CARPENTER NICKEL-COPPER ALLOY 405 is the free-machining grade of Carpenter Nickel-Copper Alloy 400, the result of a controlled amount of added sulfur. Like Alloy 400, Alloy 405 is a solid-solution alloy and therefore strengthed only by cold work. Its strength is comparable to that of structural steel and it has good toughness. It can be used from sub-zero to as high 800 F (1000 F in sulfur-free oxidizing environments). Its corrosion resistance (including virtual immunity to stress-corrosion cracking in chloride environments) is very good in reducing conditions but not in oxidizing atmosphere. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: Ni-338. Producer or source: Carpenter.

Abstract TANTALOY 60 Metal is a vacuum-melted, solid-solution alloy of tantalum and tungsten. It retains useful strength up to 4500 F. Its corrosion resistance is similar to unalloyed tantalum and it is only slightly more difficult to fabricate. If high-temperature exposure is under conditions other than vacuum or inert atmosphere, coating protection may be required. The alloy is used in highly specialized and sophisticated aerospace system applications and in special chemical process. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on high temperature performance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: Ta-9. Producer or source: Fansteel Metallurgical Corporation.

Abstract KB1-40 Alloy is a solid solution of 60% tantalum and 40% columbium (niobium). It costs much less than tantalum, yet it retains much of tantalum's excellent ability to resist chemical corrosion at high temperatures. It has higher tensile and yield strengths than tantalum and comparable ductility. Typical applications are heat exchangers, reactors, condensers and thermowells. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: Ta-7. Producer or source: Cabot Corporation.
