Abstract TYPE 317L, 317LX, and 317LXN are austenitic alloys with varying molybdenum and nitrogen contents and thus have varying levels of resistance to pitting corrosion. All are low carbon to resist sensitization. All three alloys are intended for severe service conditions such as flue gas desulfurization systems. Abstract Avesta Polarit 317LMN is a low-carbon, higher-molybdenum austenitic steel frequently used for flue gas desulfurization service. The alloy is a fully austenitic stainless steel with excellent resistance to corrosion in chloride environments and nonoxidizing acids. It is significantly stronger than most low-carbon stainless steels and its structural stability makes for good weldability.
