Cultivares de maracujá-roxo desenvolvidas regionalmente podem contribuir para o aumento da produção de frutos de qualidade atendendo às necessidades do mercado. Objetivou-se avaliar os frutos de maracujá-roxo, obtidos em sistemas de cultivo convencional e orgânico. Os frutos foram colhidos em estágio de maturação comercial (casca totalmente roxa) e analisados quanto à caracterização físico-química, centesimal, compostos bioativos e capacidade antioxidante. Os frutos analisados apresentaram maiores valores médios para o rendimento de polpa e sólidos solúveis em sistema convencional, que foram de 49,04% e 13,86 °Brix. O valor calórico energético foi de 45,95 kcal/100 g em sistema orgânico, indicando que o consumo do fruto “maduro” pode ser realizado a fim de suprir as necessidades energéticas diárias. As polpas dos frutos de maracujá-roxo estudados demonstraram serem fontes importantes de componentes bioativos, com respaldo aos elevados valores médios para ácido ascórbico e polifenóis extraíveis totais em ambos os sistemas de cultivo. Palavras-chave: Passiflora edulis Sims; manejo; sólidos solúveis; compostos fenólicos.   Postharvest characterization of purple passion fruits cultivated in conventional and organic system   ABSTRACT: Regionally developed purple passion fruit cultivars can contribute to the increase in the production of quality fruits, meeting marked needs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the purple passion fruits, obtained in conventional and organic cultivation systems. The fruits were harvested at the stage of commercial maturation (totally purple peel) and analyzed for characterization of the physicochemical, centesimal composition, bioactive compounds and antioxidant capacity. The analyzed fruits showed higher average values ​​for pulp yield and soluble solids in a conventional system, which were 49.04% and 13.86 °Brix. The caloric energetic value was 45.95 kcal/100 g in organic system, indicating that the consumption of the “ripe” fruit can be carried out in order to meet the daily energy needs. The pulps of the purple passion fruit studied proved to be important sources of bioactive components, supported by the high mean values ​​for ascorbic acid and total extractable polyphenols in both farming systems. The effect of two different harvest seasons (winter and summer) on some characteristics of passion fruit and juice was studied. Three different harvests were made during the two seasons every 15-20 days. The soluble solids/acid ratio was used as a ripeness index. The weight, diameter, peel thickness and yield of juice and seeds were determined in the fruit. Soluble solids, pH, acidity, total and reduced sugars, starch, pectin and pectinesterase activity were determined in the juice. A sensory evaluation of the quality and intensity of aroma was made. Influence of the date of harvest on the technological characteristics of the fruit and juice were observed. Winter fruits showed higher weight, diameter and peel thickness and lower juice yield than those from the summer harvest. The juice from the summer harvest showed a higher content of soluble solids, less acidity, and a higher content in starch, pectin and sugars than that of the summer harvest. The sensory evaluation showed that the aroma of the juice from the summer harvest was better in intensity and quality than that of the winter fruit.

Purple passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims f. edulis) is a tropical juice source. The goal of this project was to evaluate photosynthetic and physiological variability for the crop with the hypotheses that landraces contain the diversity to adapt to higher elevation nontraditional growing environments and this is dependent on specific parameters of ecological adaptation. A total of 50 genotypes of this crop were chosen from divergent sources for evaluations of their eco-physiological responses in two equatorial locations at different altitudes in the Andes Mountains, a center of diversity for the species. The germplasm included 34 landraces, 8 commercial cultivars, and 8 genebank accessions. The two locations were contrasting in climates, representing mid and high elevations in Colombia. Mid-elevation valleys are typical regions of production for passion fruit while high elevation sites are not traditional. The location effects and variables that differentiated genotypes were determined. Results showed statistically significant differences between locations and importance of physiological parameters related to photosynthesis and water use efficiency. Some landraces exhibited better water status and gas exchange than commercial types. Parameters like maximum photosynthesis, points of light saturation and compensation, darkness respiratory rate, and apparent quantum yield varied between genotype groups. The landraces, commercial types, and genebank entries also differed in content of carotenoids and chlorophylls a and b. Meanwhile, photosynthesis measurements showed that altitudinal difference had an effect on genotype-specific plant growth and adaptation. An important conclusion was that landraces contained the diversity to adapt to the new growing environment at higher altitudes.

Studies related to adaptation to the environment and different conditions of water availability contribute to decision-making regarding the management of any crop to be implanted. Accordingly, this work aimed to evaluate the yield and quality of organic yellow passion fruit cultivated in a long root system in dryland conditions. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with five treatments and four replications with four plants each. The treatments consisted of the alteration of the length of the root system, namely: T1 = 25 cm; T2 = 50 cm; T3 = 75 cm; T4 = 100 cm; and T5 = 125 cm. At 120 days after emergence (DAE), the seedlings were transplanted to the field and the following variables were evaluated: plant height (cm) and base diameter (mm) at 120 DAE; total titratable acidity (TTA), total soluble solids (TSS), Ratio (TSS/TTA); and fruit yield. The cultivation of tall seedlings with a long root system provides the maintenance of production during the dry season. The TTA, TSS, and the ratio do not change when modifying the length of the root system, although they do change with the harvest season. The cultivation of passion fruit in an organic system using plants with a long root system with an estimated length of 114 cm provides a higher fruit yield (7,472 kg ha-1) in 22 months of cultivation.

Physico-chemical characteristics of purple and yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims.) were compared with those of maypop (Passiflora incarnata L.). Fruit diameter of maypop and purple passion fruit followed a typical sigmoidal growth curve. There were no differences in growth rate between the two species during the exponential phase. Growth differences, occurred after the exponential phase (10 and 20 days after anthesis). Fruits of the commercial types were heavier than greenhouse and wild grown maypop. Wild grown maypop produced heavier fruit compared to greenhouse grown maypop. Commercial passion fruit produced heavier rinds and greater pulp weight. Yellow passion fruit had the lowest percentage pulp and the most soluble solids. Greenhouse grown maypop had the lowest soluble solids. No differences in juice pH were found between the two species. Wild maypop fruits had the highest sucrose and greenhouse grown purple passion fruit had the lowest. Yellow and purple passion fruit had higher fructose than maypop. Glucose was significantly different between the two species, but not within species.

Fruit growth (diameter) of purple passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims.) and maypop (P. incarnata L.) followed a sigmoidal growth curve. Passion fruit were larger than either greenhouse-grown or wild maypop fruit. Wild maypop produced larger fruit than greenhouse-grown maypop. Yellow passion fruit had the lowest percentage of pulp and the highest soluble solids concentration (SSC) and greenhouse-grown maypop had the lowest SSC among the four groups tested. Purple and yellow passion fruit had lower juice pH than maypop. Wild maypop fruit had the highest sucrose content and purple passion fruit had the lowest. Yellow and purple passion fruit juice had higher fructose and glucose contents than did maypop juice.

E-mail: [email protected]     1 RESUMO   No presente estudo foram avaliadas a qualidade físico-química de frutos de maracujazeiro (Passiflora edulis Sims, ‘BRS Gigante Amarelo’) propagado a partir de sementes e estaquia sob diferentes potenciais de água no solo. O experimento foi realizado em casa de vegetação, entre os meses de novembro de 2019 e junho de 2020, na Universidade Federal do Recôncavo da Bahia, Cruz das Almas, BA. O maracujazeiro foi cultivado em lisímetros de drenagem, cada um com área superficial de 1,44 m² e altura de 0,6 m, preenchidos com solo de textura franco-arenosa. Adotou-se o delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 2 x 4: duas formas de propagação vegetativa (semente e estaquia) e quatro potenciais matriciais de água no solo (-6, -10, -20 e -33 kPa), com quatro repetições. Avaliaram-se as massas frescas do fruto e da polpa, diâmetro e comprimento do fruto, razão comprimento/diâmetro do fruto, rendimento da polpa do fruto, espessura da casca, sólidos solúveis totais, acidez total titulável, razão entre sólidos solúveis totais/acidez total titulável e pH da polpa. As formas de propagação afetaram as principais variáveis da qualidade física dos frutos do maracujazeiro. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, between November 2019 and June 2020, at the Federal University of Recôncavo of Bahia, Cruz das Almas, BA. The passion fruit was grown in drainage lysimeters, each one with a surface area of 1.44 m² and 0.6 m high, and filled with sandy loamy soil. The experiment was performed in a completely randomized design in a 2 x 4 factorial scheme: two forms of vegetative propagation (seed or cuttings) and four soil water potential (-6, -10, -20, and -33 kPa), with four replicates. Fruit fresh weight, fresh weight of the fruit pulp, fruit diameter and length, fruit length/diameter ratio, fruit pulp yield, rind thickness, total soluble solids, total titratable acidity, total soluble solids/total titratable acidity ratio and pH of the pulp was evaluated. The forms of propagation affected the main physical quality variables of the fruits of passion fruit. The chemical quality of the passion fruit pulp was not affected by the factors under study.  Keywords: Passiflora edulis Sims, irrigation management, vegetative propagation.
