In the present paper, the performance of high speed submarine optical fiber cable systems is investigated, taking into account both the pressure and the temperature effects. Both the pressure and the temperature are depth-dependent variables, while both the spectral losses and the dispersion effects are temperature as well as wavelength dependent variables. Two important cases with real fibers are processed: a case with dispersion cancellation and a case without dispersion cancellation. It is found that the ocean pressure (due to the depth) shifts the dispersion-free wavelength towards the third communication window. In general, as the depth increases the maximum transmitted bit rate increases in the range of interest. The system capacity as well as the spectral losses, and the dispersion effects are parametrically investigated over wide-range ranges of the set of affecting parameters {wavelength, ocean depth (and consequently the ocean pressure and temperature), and the chemical structure}. Key Words: Submarine Optical Fiber, Undersea Optical Communication, Pressure and Temperature Effects, Transoceanic Optical Communications

The losses of the off-axis rotary optical fiber communication system were derived from optical fiber coupling, three kinds of misalignments between optical fiber collimators (Axial separation Z0, lateral offset X0, angular tilting θ), incomplete alignment of optical fiber collimator during rotation and system tremble caused by high speed rotating. Some measures were taken to reduce the loss. The thermally expanded core fiber collimator cut down the influence of axial separation and angular tilting. The position of the optical fiber collimator on the flange was adjusted and infrared right angle prisms were installed to reduce the losses during rotation of the system. In addition, improving the precision and optimizing device of mechanical structure can increase the stability of the whole experiment platform and decrease the losses.

AbstractIn this paper, propagation behavior of Soliton pulse in optical fiber communication is analyzed. Ultra high speed transmission of data over optical fiber is possible by choosing appropriate pulse shape. Soliton pulse transmission using different modulation formats is performed to minimize jitter. Also analysis is done to calculate optical power, electrical power and average peak electrical power at different frequencies.
