A problem frequently confronting the clinical neuropsychologist is that of adjusting assessment methods to the clinical question asked and available resources of time and technical expertise. Suggestions are made for selecting clinical instruments for neuropsychological assessment at three levels, namely, screening, classification, and selection of treatment. Brief neuropsychological test batteries are proposed for each level.

The choice of the most beneficial road alignment variant is a multicriteria issue, based on transport, economic, social and environmental criteria. The criteria chosen for a multicriteria analysis can be expressed through measurable or immeasurable parameters. In order to compare and assess the variants it is necessary to normalize the criteria, which means a rescaling of their value, so that the criteria values fall into a specific range. The main aim of normalization is to assign an identical weight to each criterion in relation to other criteria. This article presents a review of the influence of criteria normalization methods and the variant assessment methods on the choice of the most beneficial road alignment variant on the example of the bypass of the town of Księżyno, which is a stretch of Regional Road 678 near Bialystok. Four variants of road alignment were compared and their ranking was created using six assessment methods. It was proven that the choices of the criteria normalization method as well as the variant assessment method both have significant influence on the result of the multicriteria analysis in the decision-making process of selecting the road alignment.

The aim of the contribution is to describe modelling of selected reliability indicators of prototype equipment with PAM. Purpose of model is maximizing overall equipment reliability by the means of optimal selection of basic elements or by proper redundancy of the elements. Further, possibilities of reliability increase by the means of active and passive reserve are described, as a higher level of reliability control in given technical equipment with PAM. Summary of particular ways of reliability increase is presented on an example of a given prototype mechatronic equipment based on artificial muscle.

The article presents the results of the analysis of methods for assessing the effectiveness of project activities related to technical means of rehabilitation. Particular attention is paid to the competitive selection of projects, in the process of which the assessment methods used in specific organizations specializing in financing promising research and R&D projects, as well as their implementation in practice, are used. According to the results of the analysis, it was found that the key role, both in the course of competitive procedures and in assessing the interim and final results of project implementation, is assigned to a comprehensive expert method. The examination of projects is considered as the implementation of specialized assessment, analytical and / or research activities aimed at ensuring the development of recommendations regarding the feasibility of financing projects and their practical application, as well as forecasting effectiveness, taking into account the relevance in practice. The key subject of the assessment is the expert, to whom certain requirements are made, and a strictly formalized procedure for conducting examinations is established for him. Other individual methods were described (the procedure for selecting projects, the methodological substantiation of project examinations, the selection of experts, the organization and formation of the procedure for conducting examinations, the selection of criteria and indicators for evaluating a project, evaluating the effectiveness of a completed project), their strengths and weaknesses in the context were substantiated conclusions about the effectiveness of project activities in the field.

Assessment tasks refer to tasks that an instructor requires students to complete and that counts towards their final grades in a course. Assessment tasks, in the relevant literature, are also called assessment (e.g., Dirks, 1998), assessment methods (e.g., Flinders University, 2002), assignments (e.g., Arend, 2006), or assessment tools (e.g., Simonson, Smaldino, Albright, & Zvacek, 2002). While there is a plethora of literature on assessment tasks in traditional environments, there is a paucity of discussions on assessment tasks in online environments (Comeaux, 2005). This short chapter discusses (1) importance of assessment tasks in online courses, (2) opportunities and challenges that online environments bring to assessment tasks, and (3) principles and strategies in design and use of assessment tasks in online courses.

Effectively screening-out candidates who have potential to become “liability-prone” officers is crucial to any police agency. The critical nature of appropriate selection is readily apparent when we consider the serious ramifications that the inappropriate actions of even a single officer can have for the agency itself as well as for the community as a whole. The present paper contends that assessment centers are a viable option for selection of entry-level police officers. The literature on the use of assessment centers is reviewed, and arguments are made regarding the potential utility of employing this technique with police applicants. Recommendations are offered for implementation of an assessment center program for selection of entry-level police officers.
