The Al2O3-SiC reinforced Al7075 Metal Matrix Composite (MMCs) is fabricated through liquid metallurgical technique. Ceramic particulates were amalgamated into aluminium alloy to achieve improved mechanical properties and wear resistance. Al-7075/Al2O3/SiC hybrid MMCs were produced by reinforcing 2%, 3%, 4% and 5% of Al2O3 and 3%, 5% and 7% of SiC particles. Microstructural analysis was carried out to evaluate the uniform dispersal of reinforcing particulates within the base matrix. The output results indicate that the mechanical properties of the hybrid MMCs enhanced by increase the wt. % of ceramic particulates. Tensile fractography results show the internal fracture structure of the tensile test specimens in which the particulates fracture and pullouts were observed. The wear characteristics of developed composites are studied using pin on disc apparatus. The high wear resistance is observed at 5% Al2O3 + 7% SiC reinforced MMCs.

Metal matrix composites were prepared by hot pressing (HP) and spark plasma sintering (SPS) techniques. Ball-milled ironbase powders were consolidated to near full density by these methods at 900°C. The physical and mechanical properties of the resulting composites were investigated. The specimens were tested for resistance to both 3-body and 2-body abrasion. The composites obtained by HP method (at 900°C/35 MPa) had higher density, hardness and resistance to abrasion than those obtained by SPS method.

Aluminium metal matrix composites (AMMC’s) have been widely used because of their superior properties like high strength to wear ratio, high wear resistance, and higher heat conduction rate. The additions of reinforcements in the form of discontinuous particles lead to an increase in the properties of Metal Matrix Composites (MMC). In this present work, the ALMMC composite was fabricated with the addition of discontinuous reinforcement particles of Zirconium Carbide (ZrC) and Boron Carbide (B4C). The mechanical properties such as tensile strength, hardness, and impact strength were tested as per the ASTM standards. The tribological properties were tested using a pin-on-disc setup under different loading conditions (10, 20, 30, 40 N). Moreover, the morphological characterization of ALMMC was carried out by using the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis. Furthermore, the Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) was accomplished to find the thermal stability of ALMMC. The findings show that the variations of reinforcement of ZrC added had given improved properties like hardness, tensile strength, impact strength and wear resistance.

Abstract FERRO-TITANIT C-SPEZIAL is one of a series of metal-matrix composites manufactured by a powder metallurgy process. Ferro-Titanit C-SPEZIAL contains 33% titanium carbide, one of the hardest and most resistant carbides. Because of its high wear resistance and low tendency towards cold welding, Ferro-Titanit is particularly used in forming and cutting tools. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, microstructure, hardness, elasticity, and compressive and bend strength. It also includes information on wear resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and powder metal forms. Filing Code: SA-812. Producer or source: Deutsche Edelstahlwerke GmbH.

The present investigation involves studying the mechanical properties of the fabricated aluminium 7075 hybrid metal matrix composites reinforced with various weight % of SiC and Al2 O3 particulates by stir casting method. The Al 7075 hybrid metal matrix composites specimen were fabricated using L9 orthogonal array. The mechanical properties like Brinell Harness (BHN), Rockwell Hardness (HRC) and impact loads were experimented. The mechanical properties like hardness and impact loads have improved with the increase in weight percentage of SiC and Al2O3 particulates in the hybrid aluminium matrix.

The epidemic adoption of particulate metal matrix composites (MMCs) for engineering applications has been delay by the high cost of producing components of even minimally complex shape. The aluminum-based composites find its applications widely in transport, aerospace, marine, automobile and mineral processing industries, owing to their improved strength, stiffness and wear resistance properties. This paper, presents the overview of the addition of different reinforcements to aluminium alloy. The reinforcements are added to the Al7075 by using stir casting method. Effect of these reinforcements like Titanium carbide (TiC) and silicon (Si) influencing on the mechanical properties like tensile strength, hardness was studied. Research relevant to these factors which influence particles distribution were noticed by conducting the experimental studies of Al7075 hybrid composites. The mechanical properties and the microstructure of Al–TiC-Si metal matrix composite has shown the significant improvement in Hardness and Tensile strength, with increase in TiC and Si particles in weight percentage of composites.

Aluminium Silicon reinforced with 50Vf% SiC has been produced by spontaneous infiltration at 900°C for 1 hour. Aluminium infiltrated preforms containing 1%wt Mg mixed with various of Si between 2 and 14wt%, as external dopant. However Al did not infiltrate a preform containing 1wt%Mg but if mixed with Si in the preform generated in more extensive infiltration. Effect of Si on characterisation of pure Al composites by spontaneous infiltration were studied and compared to Al-Si based matrix. Microstructural analysis of MMC as well as mechanical properties were also observed. It was found that increasing of Si content generated lower porosity thus increasing hardness due to aluminium could wet SiC preform well. Although the dopant was uniformly distributed throughout the perform but microstructural analysis and hardness measurements indicate that the resultant composite may not be uniform as infiltration inwards from the top to the bottom of preform. The hardness of Al-Si composites is significantly increased with increasing of Si for both externally and internally doped system. This is associated with decreasing porosity with higher Si in composites.
