Enteric fever remains a major disease burden in developing countries. Paratyphoid fever has been described as a less severe infection than typhoid fever. Salmonella serovar Paratyphi A has been however seen as an increasing problem in many areas in Asia and can cause a disease with severity proportional to that of Salmonella serovar Typhi. Among Asian countries China, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Vietnam are considered to be endemic for typhoid. This case describes female infant presenting with long standing lymphadenopathy in the cervical and axillary area. Considering the duration of clinical feature she was investigated for Tuberculosis and Hodgkins lymphoma. The extensive course of investigations ruled out both. Sampling of gastric aspirate in pursuit of diagnosing tuberculosis incidentally revealed Salmonella Paratyphi B repeatedly as the cause of the generalized lymphadenopathy.This is a first report which describes such a case in the best of our knowledge.

The coexistence of epidermal cysts and lipomas at the same site is extremely rare, although epidermal cysts and lipomas are both common benign skin tumors. We present a rare case of an epidermal cyst with underlying lipoma on the back. This case report may simply be a result of coincidence, but the possibility of underlying subcutaneous tumors should be considered before epidermal cyst surgery.

Abstract Background Umbilical vein bacterial infections may cause liver abscesses during bacterial ascent. A single liver abscess can be surgically treated by marsupialization, but a risk of recurrence or non-healing remains. Moreover, there is no effective treatment for multiple abscesses. Case presentation A 17-day-old Holstein female calf exhibited reduced general condition, swelling and drainage of the umbilicus, and pressure sores in the area of the carpus, resulting in reluctance to stand up. The umbilicus showed pain at palpation; deep abdominal palpation indicated a swollen umbilical vein coursing from the umbilicus toward the liver. Ultrasonography confirmed a swollen umbilical vein with pus accumulation and multiple abscesses in the liver. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) examination confirmed that the swollen umbilical vein with fluid continued to the liver, and multiple unenhanced lesions, most likely abscesses, were confirmed in the liver. Partial hepatectomy was performed to remove as many abscesses as possible. For the resection, a vessel sealing device (LigaSureTM) was used to excise a part of the left liver lobe. As we could not remove all the abscesses in the liver during the operation, cefazolin sodium (5 mg/kg) was administered for 14 days after surgery. Post-operatively, blood accumulation was observed in the abdominal cavity, but no signs of peritonitis were found. The calf returned to the farm on day 38 after surgery. Follow-up information was obtained after 1 year, and complications were not reported. Conclusions To our knowledge, this is the first report of partial hepatectomy using a vessel sealing device for a calf with multiple liver abscesses. This case report suggests that the combination of partial hepatectomy and long-term administration of antibacterial drugs may restore the health of calves with multiple liver abscesses.

Abstract Nodular hidradenoma is an uncommon cutaneous adnexal tumor arising from sweat glands. In the skin, it usually presents as a solitary dermal nodule; excision is curative in most cases. In rare instances, it may present as a breast mass and can mimic breast carcinoma clinically and radiologically, causing diagnostic dilemmas for the treating physician and pathologist. Herein, we discuss a case of nodular hidradenoma in a 20-year-old Hispanic woman as a rapidly growing mass in the breast that mimicked breast carcinoma. We discuss the rare presentation of this uncommon tumor and the differential diagnosis of this entity, as well as the results of our literature review on the topic.

Abstract Background This case report demonstrates pericardial effusion, acute pericarditis, and cardiac tamponade in an otherwise healthy woman who had a positive test result for coronavirus disease 2019. Few case reports have been documented on patients with this presentation, and it is important to share novel presentations of the disease as they are discovered. Case presentation A Caucasian patient with coronavirus disease 2019 returned to the emergency department of our hospital 2 days after her initial visit with worsening chest pain and shortness of breath. Imaging revealed new pericardial effusion since the previous visit. The patient became hypotensive, was taken for pericardial window for cardiac tamponade with a drain placed, and was treated for acute pericarditis. Conclusion Much is still unknown about the implications of coronavirus disease 2019. With the novel coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, research is still in process, and we are slowly learning about new signs and symptoms of the disease. This case report documents a lesser-known presentation of a patient with coronavirus disease 2019 and will help to further understanding of a rare presentation.
