AbstractSweat glands play an important role in thermoregulation via sweating, and protect human vitals. The reduction in sweating may increase the incidence of hyperthermia. Myoepithelial cells in sweat glands exhibit stemness characteristics and play a major role in sweat gland homeostasis and sweating processes. Previously, we successfully passaged primary myoepithelial cells in spheroid culture systems; however, they could not be maintained for long under in vitro conditions. No myoepithelial cell line has been established to date. In this study, we transduced two immortalizing genes into primary myoepithelial cells and developed a myoepithelial cell line. When compared with primary sweat gland cells, the immortalized myoepithelial cells (designated "iEM") continued to form spheroids after the 4th passage and expressed α-smooth muscle actin and other proteins that characterize myoepithelial cells. Furthermore, treatment with small compounds targeting the Wnt signaling pathways induced differentiation of iEM cells into luminal cells. Thus, we successfully developed an immortalized myoepithelial cell line having differentiation potential. As animal models are not useful for studying human sweat glands, our cell line will be helpful for studying the mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of sweating disorders.

Abstract: In the present study herbal Hair oils were formulated. Hair is one of the vital parts of the body and a protective appendage on the body and considered accessory structure of integument along with sebaceous glands, sweat glands and nails. Hair oils are widely used by the consumer of the cosmetic industries. The hair oil samples comply for the requirements of color, odour, PH, Viscosity, Density, acid value. Present investigation was undertaken to standardize the selected herbal hair oils on physicochemical parameters and some standard. Excellent results were seen in formulation prepared by boiling method of oils preparation technique. Keyword: Herbal preparation, Hair oil, Acid value, Saponification value AIM: To Formulate & Evaluate Polyherbal Hair Oil. Objectives:  To collect information about Marketed herbal hair oils.  To prepare polyherbal hair oil.  To explore the use of Neem, Banyan tree of Arial root & Amla  To study evaluation of hair oil such as PH, Viscosity, Density, Refractive index, Acid value, Saponification value.  To achieve best formula for the hair oil using herbal ingredients.

Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (HED) (OMIM # 305100) is a congenital genetic disorder caused by mutations in EDA (NM_001399) on chromosome X. Children with HED have the abnormal development of epidermal structures such as skin, hair, nails, teeth, and sweat glands. The present study aimed to detect mutations in EDA of a Vietnamese family with a son having only five teeth and no sweat glands, using whole exome sequencing (WES) and multiplex PCR. The results showed that patient had a deletion of exon 1 in EDA (c.2_396del), which is likely to be inherited from the healthy mother. The results will partly contribute to molecular studies on HED, helping in genetic counseling and disease treatment.

Ectodermal dysplasia (ED) is a rare genetic condition with nearly 200 documented traits. As the name states, ED targets tissues derived from ectoderms, such as hair, skin, nails, sweat glands, and teeth. Other orofacial structures might be affected, such as salivary glands and hard palate. Lack of teeth and diminished facial height can impact negatively on child growth and psychological well-being. Therefore, assessment and an interdisciplinary management plan of orofacial components of ED children should be installed as early as possible. Here we report an early assessment and multi-disciplinary management of ED child’s orofacial structures, which allow restoration of facial height and dental function and saliva reduction by the least invasive restorative approach in the form of the composite build-up of microdont and overdentures. It also highlights the importance of periodic evaluation of growth and treatment plan adjustment as an integral part of the transitional management until the age of a definite dental treatment.

Cutaneous ciliated cyst are relatively rare benign lesions, found in the dermis or subcutis of the lower extremities of young females in their second and third decades. The cysts are typically lined by ciliated cuboidal to columnar epithelium, showing pseudostratified areas and focal squamous metaplasia is occasionally present. Immunohistochemical studies have demonstrated that the cysts can be PR and ER positive, similar to the epithelia of the fallopian tubes. The pathogenesis of the cyst is yet being studied, some hypotheses have been proposed including the Mullerian heterotopias, ciliated metaplasia of eccrine sweat glands, and embryonic remnants of the cloacal membrane. We report a cutaneous ciliated cyst over the right gluteus area in a 29 year old female. On histologic examination, the cyst was lined by ciliated columnar epithelium, showing occasional papillary projections.

Background Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a painful inflammatory disorder that confers significant distress to patients, with surgery as an integral treatment modality. Objective To inform improvements in care, patterns in HS surgery were assessed. Methods A retrospective population-based analysis was performed on Ontario billing claims for HS surgery across a period of 10 years from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2017. HS surgery was defined as the excision of inguinal, perineal, or axillary skin and sweat glands for hidradenitis. The top 5 billing specialties, including general and plastic surgery, were analyzed. The total number of procedures performed as well as the number performed per physician were investigated. Patient and physician locations were compared. Results A total of 7195 claims for the excision of inguinal, perineal, or axillary skin and sweat glands for HS were submitted across the study period. Annual HS surgery claims showed an increasing trend across 10 years, ranging between 4.9 and 5.8 per 100,000 population. However, overall, for every additional year, the number of claims per 100,000 population only increased slightly, by 0.03 claims. The number of providers steadily decreased, ranging between 1.7 and 1.9 per 100,000, with approximately twice as many general than plastic surgeons. However, again overall, for every additional year, the number of providers per 100,000 population decreased slightly, by 0.002 physicians. The mean annual number of procedures per physician rose from 2.8 to 3.1. In rural areas, analyzed per claim, general surgeons performed the majority of surgeries (1318/2003, 65.8%), while in urban areas, surgeries were more equally performed by general (2616/5192, 50.4%) and plastic (2495/5192, 48.1%) surgeons. Of HS surgery claims, 25.7%-35.9% were provided by a physician residing in a different area than the patient receiving care. Conclusions No significant improvements in access to HS surgery were seen across the study period, with access potentially worsening with annual HS claims rising overall and number of providers decreasing, with patients travelling further to access surgery. System barriers across the continuum of HS diagnosis and management must be evaluated to improve access to surgical care.

Heat stress (HS) affects pig performance, health and welfare, resulting in a financial burden to the pig industry. Pigs have a limited number of functional sweat glands and their thermoregulatory mechanisms used to maintain body temperature, are challenged by HS to maintain body temperature. The genetic selection of genotypes tolerant to HS is a promising long-term (adaptation) option that could be combined with other measures at the production system level. This review summarizes the current knowledge on the genetics of thermoregulation in pigs. It also discusses the different phenotypes that can be used in genetic studies, as well as the variability in thermoregulation between pig breeds and the inheritance of traits related to thermoregulation. This review also considers on-going challenges to face for improving heat tolerance in pigs.

Chondroid syringoma is a benign mixed tumour arising from the sweat glands which can be apocrine (found throughout the surface of the eyelid) or eccrine with a mean age of presentation being 50 years. Here we report two cases of chondroid syringoma of the upper eyelid, one in a young male patient and the other in an elderly woman. Both cases had well-defined lesions involving upper eyelid in the sub-brow region, underwent excisional biopsy, and histopathological findings were consistent with an apocrine type of chondroid syringoma in one case and eccrine type of chondroid syringoma in the second case. It is important to be aware of this entity as a rare cause of eyelid lesion due to the fact that although it is a benign neoplasm, incomplete excision may be associated with recurrence or malignant transformation.
