The Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) is an effective pest control method developed worldwide against many species of Fruit Flies. It involves the release of male insects sterilized, at pupae instar, by exposure to ionizing radiation.  The Area-wide control of medfly (Ceratitis capitata), with SIT based on sterile males release combined to other control techniques, was implemented since 2017 as a pilot area in Moulouya Perimeter in North-eastern Morocco. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of this tool in controlling Medfly and estimate sterile male population densities from data collected from trap catches after the release of a pre-determined number of sterile males in five Citrus orchards (0, 500, 1000 and 3000 sterile males per hectare) and the calculation of FTD (fly/trap/day) of sterile and wild males. The result showed that the percentage of recaptured males and FTD Sterile indices were related to release density by power function regression, while the sterile to wild ratio and release density were linear regression-adjusted. The finding confirmed the effectiveness of release in reducing the fly population in the TIS area by reducing the rate of citrus infestation in field and export shipments.

Centaurea ibn-tattoui is described and illustrated as a new species from north-eastern Morocco. Intermediate involucral bracts and leaves are the discriminant features separating it from other closely related taxa of C. sect. Acrocentron.

Two Moroccan subspecies of Salamandra algira were recently observed in caves - S. algira splendens and S. algira spelaea. Here, I report the first observations of cave breeding in S. algira splendens, in the Chaâra and Friouato caves of the north-eastern Middle Atlas (Taza region, Morocco). Twenty-two salamander and newt species are known to be facultative or obligate cave-dwellers in the Mediterranean ecoregion. They can inhabit or breed in caves so avoiding hot and very dry summer conditions. Caves with groundwater and stable humidity act as thermal refugia, winter or summer shelters, hiding places, feeding areas or, in some cases, as regular breeding sites.

The issue of climate change today has become one of the issues that receive increasing attention on the part of the global system, due to its disastrous effects at all levels, and this is due to human and natural factors, including the southern bank of the Mediterranean which has not been excluded from, especially the Tarifa Plain in the far northeast of Morocco, which is one of the most important irrigated areas in the country due to its great contribution to agricultural production and its reliance on achieving economic and social development in the region. However, its climate during the last six decades has witnessed clear variations in the rates of precipitation and temperature, whether annual or monthly, or even seasonal and daily. This increases the severity of the climatic drought, which in turn affects water resources. Therefore, it is imperative that great efforts must be made to limit the effects of these changes in light of the excessive depletion of water in the agricultural sector. Through this intervention, we aim to highlight the climatic changes that occurred on the Tarifa Plain, and their repercussions on its water resources, and how to adapt these changes to achieving sustainable development for the studied area.
