Pengendalian penggerek batang lada Lophobaris piperis Marsh (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) dan penghisap buah lada Dasynus piperis China (Hemiptera: Coreidae) dapat dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik aplikasi insektisida dan pengendalian secara kultur teknis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh teknik frekuensi aplikasi insektisida kimia dan teknik pengendalian gulma terhadap kelimpahan dan intensitas kerusakan yang diakibatkan oleh hama Lophobaris piperis Marsh and Dasynus piperis China pada tanaman lada. Penelitian dilaksanakan di kebun petani lokal dengan kriteria kebun yang dipilih berupa kombinasi antara teknik pengendalian gulma dengan metode penyiangan, herbisida dan tanaman penutup Arachis pintoi Krap. & Greg.  serta frekuensi aplikasi insektisida sebanyak 2 kali dan 4 kali setahun. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan bahwa kelimpahan hama tertinggi terdapat pada kebun lada yang menerapkan teknik pengendalian gulma menggunakan penyiangan dan aplikasi herbisida yang dikombinasikan dengan aplikasi insektisida sebanyak 4 kali setahun. Intensitas kerusakan mutlak dan intensitas kerusakan relatif tertinggi ditemukan pada kebun lada dengan aplikasi insektisida sebanyak 2 kali setahun. Intensitas kerusakan cenderung menurun pada kebun lada yang menerapkan teknik pengendalian gulma menggunakan tanaman A. pintoi.

Infectedplants were quickly killed and were difficult for replanting,causing significant losses for the growers. Various controlmethods were examined including the use of bioconrolagents and cover crop Arachis pintoi. The researchobjective was to determine the ability of biocontrol agentsand A. pintoi to improve pepper growth and reduce yellowdisease incidence on pepper plants in the field. Researchresults showed that the treatment of biocontrol andA. pintoi promoted vegetative growth of pepper plants, andincreased pepper height for up to more five times, andreduced yellow disease incidence to 30%AbstrakPenyakit kuning merupakan penyakit kompleks yangdisebabkan oleh Fusarium sp., Phytophthora sp. dannematoda parasit. Tanaman sakit mengalami kematianyang cepat dan kebun yang telah terinfeksi sulit untukditanami kembali, sehingga mengakibatkan kerugian yangnyata terhadap petani. Berbagai cara pengendalian telahdiuji termasuk penggunaan agens hayati Plant GrowthPromoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR), Trichoderma sp. dantanaman Arachis pintoi. Tujuan penelitian adalahmengetahui kemampuan agensia hayati dan Arachis pintoidalam meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan mengurangikejadian penyakit kuning pada tanaman lada di lapang.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan agenshayati dan A. pintoi meningkatkan tinggi dan jumlah dauntanaman lada lebih dari lima kali serta mempercepatmunculnya sulur dibandingkan dengan kontrol danfungisida. Aplikasi Trichoderma sp. yang dikombinasidengan A. pintoi menekan kejadian penyakit kuning hampir30%.

The last nutrient management review of black pepper was done in 1968. There is, therefore, a need to develop new technology to improve pepper production and transfer that technology to production site. This experiment was carried out to study the effect of newly developed biochemical fertilizer on some physiological characteristics, yield and soil fertility of pepper. The treatment consisted of T1 (BS): chemical fertilizer (N:12%, P:12%, K:17%); T2 (BK1): biochemical fertilizer F1 N:15%, P:5%, K:14) and T3 (BK2): biochemical fertilizer F2 (N:13%, P:4%, K:12). The biochemical fertilizer F1 out-yielded chemical and biochemical fertilizer F2 by 75.38% and 16.45% respectively with the higher yield being associated with various phonotypical alterations, which are reported here. Significant measureable changes were observed in physiological processes and plant characteristics, such as large leaf area index, more chlorophyll content and high photosynthesis rate coupled with lower transpiration rate in biochemical fertilizer F1(BK1) treatment compared with other treatment. The high fertility level in biochemical fertilizer F1 and biochemical fertilizer F2 (BK2) reflected the important of organic material in improving soil quality. In conclusion, the achieve high growth performance and yield in pepper, chemical fertilizer alone is insufficient whilst combination of organic and inorganic fertilizer with balance nutrient content gave a significant increase in yield and growth of pepper.
