The Moderating Effect of Organization Tenure on Job Rotation and Career Development

Career development serves as an important personnel factor with many consequences for business and individual self. The literature outlines many factors that can influence career development prospects, such as job rotation. To understand how such a relationship can be augmented further, the current study presents and discusses the moderating effect of organization tenure on the relationship between job rotation and career development. A survey instrument that included career development measures, job rotation and organization tenure was used to collect information from production workers in Japanese manufacturing companies in Malaysia. The study was conducted among 209 production workers and was analyzed by using hierarchical regression analyses. The result found that job rotation effects on career development are significantly stronger for employees with longer organization tenure than employees with lower organization tenure. The paper provides important research implications and suggestions for business owners based on the study findings. The authors also provide scope for future to guide researchers interested in studying career development, job rotation and organization tenure.

Abstract. Prosocial behavior is intended to benefit others rather than oneself and is positively linked to personality traits such as Agreeableness and Honesty-Humility, and usually negatively to the Dark Triad traits (i.e., Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy). However, a significant proportion of the research in this area is conducted solely on self-report measures of prosocial behavior. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between prosociality and the basic (i.e., HEXACO) and dark personality traits, comparing their contribution in predicting both self-reported prosociality and prosocial behavior. Results of the hierarchical regression analyses showed that the Dark Triad traits explain prosociality and prosocial behavior above and beyond the HEXACO traits, emphasizing the importance of the Dark Triad in the personality space.

Because bank employees have been found to be especially susceptible to burnout and depression, we explored the relationship between these variables, and examined the moderating effect of perceived employability on the burnout–depression relationship in a sample of Chinese bank employees. As we expected, burnout and perceived employability were, respectively, positively and negatively associated with depression. The results of hierarchical regression and structural equation modeling indicated that perceived employability moderated the relationship between burnout and depression; higher perceived employability was associated with a weaker relationship between burnout and depression. Interventions aimed at developing the perceived employability of Chinese bank employees may help to improve mental health in this group.

AbstractDrawing upon the resource-based and relational view, this study examines how the three types of IT competencies (i.e., IT objects, IT operations, and IT knowledge) differentially affect firm performance and how such effects are moderated by interorganizational communication (IOC). We test the hypotheses of interest with data collected from 258 firms in China. The results of hierarchical regression analysis reveal that IT operations and IT knowledge significantly improve firm performance, while IT objects are found to be insignificant. In addition, the moderating effect of IOC on the relationship between the three types of IT competencies and firm performance varies across diffenent types of IT competencies. Specifically, IOC positively moderates the relationship between both IT operations and IT knowledge and firm performance. However, the moderating effect of IOC on the relationship between IT objects and firm performance is not significant.

PurposeZhong-yong thinking is a code of conduct of the Chinese people. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship among Zhong-yong thinking, social capital, knowledge sharing behavior, and employee survival ability.Design/methodology/approachZhong-yong thinking including multi-thinking, integration and harmony, taking a case study of private enterprise in Guangxi of China. Based on the literature, the establishment of the theoretical model and hierarchical regression analysis are explored.FindingsThe multi-thinking, integration and harmony of Zhong-yong thinking have a significant positive effect on social capital and employee survival ability. In addition, employee survival ability is positively affected by social capital. Moreover, knowledge sharing behavior has a positive moderating between the multi-thinking dimension of Zhong-yong thinking and social capital, and the remaining dimensions have no moderating effect. Knowledge sharing behavior has no moderating effect on the relationship between social capital and employee survival ability.Practical implicationsZhong-yong thinking and social capital are actively affecting employee survival ability. Therefore, companies need to work harder to improve their employees' Zhong-yong thinking and social capital.Originality/valueThe paper extends Zhong-yong thinking, social capital and employee survival ability literature to fill gaps in how China people require to both access employee survival ability. The policy value of the work is in suggesting ways to facilitate employee survival ability of China.

The study aimed to examine the moderating role of leverage on the relationship between the size of listed Jordanian manufacturing companies and the audit fees over the period 2016-2020. The study extracted the measures of variables from the annual report of manufacturing companies available on the Amman exchange website, it employs debt ratio to measure leverage, while issued capital and total assets were used to measure the size of the company, several statistics methods such as correlation and multiple linear regression and hierarchical regression were used to analyze the data and test the relations. The results show a statistically significant impact of the size of the manufacturing company measured by capital and total assets on audit fees, furthermore, the leverage variable has modified and increase statistically the positive relationship between the size of the company and audit fees.

<p class="a">This study intends to address the relationship between job satisfaction of employees and organizational culture in Korea’s manufacturing industry. In particular, this research addresses the role of online training participation as a moderator for the relationship between organizational culture and job satisfaction. Principal component analysis and hierarchical regression analysis were applied using the Korean Human Capital Corporate Dataset. The result of this study indicates higher job satisfaction under Clan culture or Adhocracy and Market cultures. Also, online training participation can enhance employees' job satisfaction and online training participation has a moderating effect for Adhocracy and Market cultures and job satisfaction. Therefore, the manufacturing companies of Korea need to build Adhocracy and Market cultures and to encourage online training participation for employees' higher job satisfaction.</p>

Abstract In a longitudinal study of 104 participants, the psychological factors of economic locus of control, self-esteem, hope and shame were explored for their impact on the relationship between financial hardship and mental health. Participants completed measures of financial hardship, the psychological factors and measures of mental health three times at three-monthly intervals. A hierarchical regression analyses indicated that subjective financial hardship, hope and shame significantly predicted mental health outcomes. Mediation analyses demonstrated that hope mediated the relationship between subjective financial hardship and depression, stress and wellbeing; that shame mediated the relationship between subjective financial hardship and anxiety; and that neither shame nor hope mediated the relationship between subjective financial hardship and suicide ideation.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between potentials of top management teams’ (TMT) career development and corporate social responsibility (CSR) by examining listed manufacturing companies in China. More importantly, it tried to contribute to the understanding of the senior executive’s career development in the trend of upgrading the manufacturing industry. Design/methodology/approach The sample firms in this paper were selected from the China A-listed companies in the manufacturing industry. It collected CSR and TMT data from the Rankins CSR Ratings (RKS) Database and CSMAR database and applied the multiple regression to test the hypotheses. Moreover, it implemented the robustness test by using the standard regression method and the structural equation model. Findings The findings indicate that a firm’s CSR performance is significantly associated with TMT’s educational level and overseas background. The government background, academic background and financial background of high-level managers, instead, have a negative relationship with CSR performance. In addition, firm’s ownership moderates the relationship between TMT and CSR initiatives – the career development potential of TMT has different effects on promoting CSR in the context of different ownership. These relationships remain significant when the managers’ tenure, gender, age, wage and firm size are controlled. Research limitations/implications The empirical research on the potentials of executive career development and CSR is limited to linear assumptions. Since there are fewer overseas holding companies in Chinese state-owned and private enterprises, it failed to reflect international differences. Practical implications First, CSR is related to the potentials of TMT career development and also the potentials of TMT career development are associated with the structure of the TMT. Second, to improve CSR, it is necessary to distinguish the different ownership of companies and then adjust the TMT structure correspondingly. Last, senior executives should choose their career direction according to their own distinct and inherent career development potentials. Originality/value This study explores the relationship between potentials of TMT career development and CSR. It not only expands the research in the field of CSR but also enriches the research on the career development of top executives.

Abstract: The Role of Product Involvement in Moderating the Relationship Between OnlineService Quality and Online Satisfaction. The moderating effect of product involvement on therelationship between e-service quality and e-satisfaction. This study is aimed to examine the effectof five dimensions of e-service quality: (1) website design, (2) reliability, (3) customer service,(4) security/privacy, and (5) after sales service, on e-satisfaction and e-loyalty. The study alsoanalyzed the moderating effects of product involvement on the relationship between e-servicequality and e-satisfaction. A quantitative study approach using survey method is adopted to reach228 respondents. The data is analyzed by simple, multiple , and hierarchical regression methods toexplore direct and moderating effect among intended variables. The study findings confirmed thatreliability, customer service, and after sales service have influenced e-satisfaction.Keywords: e-service quality; e-satisfaction; product involvement.

The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationships between motivation factors and game engagement and explore the moderating effect of perceived social distance on those relationships. For this, the present study collected data from 228 college students in South Korean through a survey method and used hierarchical multiple regression analyses with three-steps to test the hypotheses. In the results, first, the more fantasy, diversion, or arousal participants pursue in gameplay, the more they are engaged in the game. Second, the positive relationship between arousal and game engagement is stronger for participants in high rather than low in social exclusion. However, social exclusion was found to have no significance in the relationship between other motivators and game engagement. For research contribution, this study is the first one to examine the integral model of motivation factors of engagement in the game platform and to investigate the moderating effect of perceived social distance in gameplay.
