In most cases, the decision to invest in a new airport is not simple, mainly because of the complications in the planning process, the amount of capital that needs to be invested before the establishment of the business, and the number of stakeholders involved in the decision. The decision process is more complicated in restricted economic and financing conditions, where the performance of the business plan is strongly related to regional development prospects and future airport business outputs in the medium and long term. This paper provides an evaluation methodology approach to support decisions on airport development projects. The proposed methodology provides an evaluation framework based on a combination of an ex ante assessment analysis, considering the airport’s economic impact and its contribution to a specific regional economy. The Input–Output (IO) analysis framework is used to determine the economic footprint of the airport development. A series of key performance indicators (KPIs) are introduced to review the project performance in a given economic system. The case study is examined, focussing on a new airport at Heraklion in Crete (in the Kasteli valley), one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the southeast Mediterranean. Conventional wisdom is to present a systematic approach appropriate to relevant projects, providing essential tools that support decisions at the level of strategic planning. The approach is essential to provide key messages to national governments, decision makers, and stakeholders on the contribution of an airport investment to regional economic development and its contribution to the business ecosystem in the post-COVID-19 era.

Photodetectors converting optical signals into electrical signals have been widely utilized and have received more and more attention in scientific research and industrial fields including optical interconnection, optical communication, and environmental monitoring. Herein, we summarize the latest development of photodetectors with different micro-nano structures and different materials and the performance indicators of photodetectors. Several photodetectors, such as flexible, ultraviolet two-dimensional (2D) microscale, and dual-band photodetectors, are listed in this minireview. Meanwhile, the current bottleneck and future development prospects of the photodetector are discussed.

<p>Wireless body area networks (WBANs) is a new research hotspot with great development prospects. The non-contact sensing based on radio frequency signal can solve the issues of personal comfort and privacy. Detection of cervical motion range and cervical strain in time are important in diagnosis and prevention of cervical spondylosis. In this paper, channel state information is used to achieve smart perception and monitoring, timely and efficient detection of different postures and abnormal bending of the neck. It provides an efficient way for protecting cervical health, and also some help for doctors to understand the causes of cervical vertebral disease in a timely manner. The classification accuracy of the four activities reached 99.4%, 99.7%, 99.5% and 99.3%, respectively.</p>

The CoCrFeMnNi alloy is one of the most notable first-generation high-entropy alloys and is also known as a Cantor alloy. This alloy was first proposed in 2004 and shows promising performance at cryogenic temperatures (CTs). Subsequent research has indicated that the equiatomic ternary CoCrNi medium-entropy alloy (MEA), as a subset of the Cantor alloy family, has better mechanical properties than the CoCrFeMnNi alloy. Interestingly, both the strength and ductility of the CoCrNi MEA are higher at CTs than at room temperature. CoCrNi-based alloys have attracted considerable attention in the metallic materials community and it is therefore important to generalize and summarize the latest progress in CoCrNi-based MEA research. The present review initially briefly introduces the discovery of the CoCrNi MEA. Subsequently, its tensile response and deformation mechanisms are summarized. In particular, the effects of parameters, such as critical resolved shear stress, stacking fault energy and short-range ordering, on the deformation behavior are discussed in detail. The methods for strengthening the CoCrNi MEA are then reviewed and divided into two categories, namely, modifying microstructures and adjusting chemical compositions. In addition, the mechanical performance of CoCrNi-based MEAs, including their dynamic shear properties, creep behavior and fracture toughness, is also deliberated. Finally, the development prospects of CoCrNi-based MEAs are proposed.

Tissue engineering provides a powerful solution for current organ shortages, and researchers have cultured blood vessels, heart tissues, and bone tissues in vitro. However, traditional top-down tissue engineering has suffered two challenges: vascularization and reconfigurability of functional units. With the continuous development of micro-nano technology and biomaterial technology, bottom-up tissue engineering as a promising approach for organ and tissue modular reconstruction has gradually developed. In this article, relevant advances in living blocks fabrication and assembly techniques for creation of higher-order bioarchitectures are described. After a critical overview of this technology, a discussion of practical challenges is provided, and future development prospects are proposed.

The article discusses forecasting as one of the special scientific research areas which contribute to the assessment of tourist activity development prospects, the identification of key tourism development factors and effective management decision criteria. The study provides an overview of modern research methods used in Russia and other countries for making forecasts in the field of tourism. It aims at assessing the predictive capabilities of adaptive modeling, not frequently used currently in tourism research, for the quantitative analysis of tourist flows using the example of Barcelona, a major urban tourist destination in the pre-pandemic period. An example of a forecast for tourist numbers based on adaptive models is proposed, one of the key indicators showing tourist region success which have proven successful in the study of processes with a dynamic but unstable character.

The article examines modern ideas about the nature of pedagogical activity, providing a critical analysis of the state of practice and scientific research on the problems of pedagogical education and reconstructing a set of methodological ideas, concepts and schemes related to ideas about the content and forms of pedagogical education. The authors present approaches to solving such problems as the modern understanding of the essence of pedagogical activity and the trends of its transformation in connection with the changed educational space, new functions of the teacher in the digital educational environment; crisis phenomena in pedagogical education and ways to overcome them. In this vein, the authors consider the concept of pedagogical education, substantiating its goals, content options and psychological mechanisms for mastering pedagogical activity. The proposed model of the process of professional socialization of teachers reveals the content, technologies and criteria for their effective professional training, dialectics of psychological, pedagogical and subject components in the structure of professional competence. Consideration is also given to the environment of a pedagogical university as a source of development of pedagogical experience and personal and professional qualities of teachers. The article may be of interest to researchers and organizers in the field of pedagogical education.
