The article deals with the description of calibration and its use in measuring fuel consumption via the CAN-Bus network. The CAN-Bus communication network holds great potential for the area of vehicle testing, since it allows the utilization of internal sensors of the vehicle to monitor its output parameters. In order to ensure proper accuracy of the measurements, however, it is best to perform calibration of the relevant sensors using certified measuring instruments. The main focus of the article is the calibration of the fuel consumption as measured by the CAN-Bus network based on fuel consumption measured by precision mass flow meters. Using the least squares method and a regression triplet, a calibration curve was created from the measured data to describe the relation between the two variables. The calibration curve was also used to calculate the reverse estimates along with confidence intervals for randomly chosen fuel consumptions obtained from the CAN-Bus network. To express the accuracy of the calibration methods, we also defined the limit values which express when the signal is still statistically significant enough to be distinguished from noise.

Conductor, resistor, and dielectric patterns of microelectronic device are usually defined by exposure of a photosensitive material through a mask onto the device with subsequent development of the photoresist and chemical removal of the undesired materials. Standard optical techniques are limited and electron lithography provides several important advantages, including the ability to expose features as small as 1,000 Å, and direct exposure on the wafer with no intermediate mask. This presentation is intended to report how electron lithography was used to define the permalloy patterns which are used to manipulate domains in magnetic bubble memory devices. The electron optical system used in our experiment as shown in Fig. 1 consisted of a high resolution scanning electron microscope, a computer, and a high precision motorized specimen stage. The computer is appropriately interfaced to address the electron beam, control beam exposure, and move the specimen stage.

There have been a few case reports of head injury leading to brain tumour development in the same region as the brain injury. Here we report a case where the patient suffered a severe head injury with contusion. He recovered clinically with conservative management. Follow up Computed Tomography scan of the brain a month later showed complete resolution of the lesion. He subsequently developed malignant brain tumour in the same region as the original contusion within a very short period of 15 months. Head injury patients need close follow up especially when severe. The link between severity of head injury and malignant brain tumour development needs further evaluation. Role of anti-inflammatory agents for prevention of post traumatic brain tumours needs further exploration.

Progressive esophageal carcinoma can infiltrate the surrounding tissues with subsequent development of a fistula, most commonly between the esophagus and the respiratory tract. The endoscopic placement of covered self-expanding metallic stents (SEMS) is the treatment of choice for malignant esophageal fistulas and should be performed immediately, as a fistula formation represents a potential life-threatening complication. We report the case of a 64-year-old male diagnosed with esophageal carcinoma, who had a 20Fr surgical gastrostomy tube inserted before chemo- and radiotherapy and was referred to our department for complete dysphagia, cough after swallowing and fever. The attempt to insert a SEMS using the classic endoscopic procedure failed. Then, a fully covered stent was inserted, as the 0.035” guide wire was passed through stenosis retrogradely by using an Olympus Exera II GIF-N180 (4.9 mm in diameter endoscope) via surgical gastrostomy, with a good outcome for the patient. The retrograde approach via gastrostomy under endoscopic/fluoroscopic guidance with the placement of a fully covered SEMS proved to be the technique of choice, in a patient with malignant esophageal fistula in whom other methods of treatment were not feasible. Abbreviations: ERCP: endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography; GI: gastrointestinal; SEMS: self-expandable metallic stents.

The pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases is very complex and multi-factorial. The concept of Mosaics of Autoimmunity was introduced to the scientific community 30 years ago by Y. Shoenfeld and D.A. Isenberg, and since then new tiles to the puzzle are continuously added. This concept specifies general pathological ideas about the multifactorial threshold model for polygenic inheritance with a threshold effect by the action of a number of external causal factors as applied to the field of autoimmunology. Among the external factors that can excessively stimulate the immune system, contributing to the development of autoimmune reactions, researchers are particularly interested in chemical substances, which are widely used in pharmacology and medicine. In this review we highlight the autoimmune dynamics i.e. a multistep pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases and the subsequent development of lymphoma in some cases. In this context several issues are addressed namely, genetic basis of autoimmunity; environmental immunostimulatory risk factors; gene/environmental interaction; pre-clinical autoimmunity with the presence of autoantibodies; and the mechanisms, underlying lymphomagenesis in autoimmune pathology. We believe that understanding the common model of the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases is the first step to their successful management.
