Alveolar ridge atrophy poses a clinical challenge towards the fabrication of a successful prosthesis. Resorption of denture bearing areas results in an unstable non-retentive dentures associated with pain and discomfort. Prosthetic Rehabilitation of a patient with severely resorbed ridge is the most challenging therapy a prosthodontist can undertake. For a favourable prognosis of the denture therapy, impression technique selected should be based on the present state of the basal tissue support. This article presents rehabilitation of a patient with severely resorbed mandibular ridge with the application of neutral zone concept being incorporated into impression making in an effort to achieve successful complete denture therapy. Finally, patient had more stable, retentive and functionally efficient complete denture. In conclusion, neutral zone impression technique proved to be a quite effective method for prosthetic rehabilitation of patient with severe mandibular ridge resorption. Prosthetic rehabilitation of a patient with severely resorbed ridge is the most challenging therapy a prosthodontist can undertake. In order to have a favourable prognosis for the denture therapy, impression technique selected should be based on the present state of the basal tissue support. This article presents the application of neutral zone concept being incorporated in impression making to achieve successful complete denture therapy.

Brief Background Fabrication of any dental prosthesis over a compromised residual alveolar ridge is really a challenge for prosthodontists. Fibrous or flabby ridge and highly resorbed residual alveolar ridge are two clinical situations that require special considerations during construction of any prosthesis. Mobile soft tissue and flattened alveolar ridge significantly compromise denture stability and support. There are different treatment modalities to manage these clinical conditions like surgical excision of soft tissue, ridge augmentation, modification in impression technique, etc. Materials and Methods This case report is about an old completely edentulous male patient who reported with a complaint of difficulty in chewing with his present denture. Discussion Prosthodontic management of a patient with compromised residual alveolar ridges needs special consideration . Selection of treatment modality depends on patients general health ,clinical condition of residual alveolar ridges , financial capacity and skill of the clinician A modification from conventional impression procedure was used to record maxillary flabby anterior ridge and neutral zone concept was applied for teeth arrangement to improve denture stability in atrophied lower alveolar ridge. Summary and Conclusions Surgical removal of soft tissue and implant supported prosthesis may not be possible in all situations. In that case a conservative approach using modified impression technique, neutral zone concept provides the basic triad of a successful denture prosthesis that is retention, stability and support. AbstractSeveral difficulties are encountered in providing a successful, single complete denture treatment. This case report deals with successful rehabilitation of completely resorbed mandibular ridge opposing a full complement of natural teeth prosthetically incorporating metal denture base in place of the conventional Poly Methyl Methacrylate material to combat the masticatory forces from natural dentition and improve the longevity of the prosthetic rehabilitation, at the same time improving the strength of the mandibular denture base.

Residual ridge resorption is the reduction in size of the bony ridge under the mucoperiosteum. Obtaining retention and stability in a severely resorbed ridges using a conventional technique is a tedious task. The resorption occurs at a faster rate in mandibular arch as compared to the maxillary arch. In order to have a favorable prognosis for the denture therapy, impression technique selected should be based on the present state of the basal tissue support for mandible. In this article neutral zone concept was incorporated in to impression making in an effort to achieve successful mandibular complete denture. The anterior region of maxilla is the most affected area in edentulous patients. Complete denture wearers with flabby ridges may face a number of difficulties, of which major complaints would be pain, compromised stability, support, and retention and an ill-fitting denture. Special impressions often involve window technique for static impression of flabby area, which present multiple challenges. This article presents a case report of modified widow impression technique for maxillary anterior flabby tissues along with a hollow maxillary complete denture in a patient with resorbed maxillary and mandibular ridges with increased interridge distance to reduce the weight of the prosthesis and thereby enhances the retention.

ABSTRACT Displaceable tissue on edentulous ridges may present a considerable clinical challenge to dental practitioners when providing complete dentures. Displaceable, or ‘flabby ridges’, present a particular difficulty and give rise to complaints of pain or looseness relating to a complete denture that rests on them. If the flabby tissue is compressed during conventional impression making, it will later tend to recoil and dislodge the resulting overlying denture.   A careful consideration and application of the principles of complete denture construction for such condition can provide a palliative form of treatment.
