Resin bonded fixed dental prosthesis offers most conservative and cost-effective option with missing teeth in aesthetic zone specially when an implant prosthesis is not indicated. This case report describes a treatment option for the replacement of a missing maxillary central incisor using a double-retainer resin-bonded fixed partial denture (RBFPD), fabricated from zirconium dioxide (ZrO) ceramic. No clinical complications were observed at follow-up examination after placement of the prosthesis. Satisfactory functional and aesthetic results were achieved. A treatment modality using a ZrO ceramic RBFPD is an alternative for single anterior tooth replacement.

: Maxillofacial surgeons and Prosthodontist deal with rehabilitation of defects of orofacial region but understanding the mental attitude of patients is often ignored or neglected. Success of any prosthesis relies on patient’s compliance and motivation to adjust and cope up with irreversible loss. Evaluation of psychological distress and management of the same is of utmost importance. Literature is deficit with an elaborate systematic classification system to evaluate the impact of maxillofacial defect on the psychological status of patients and role of therapy on improvement post-rehabilitation.: Am of this study is to propose a customized comprehensive protocol for evaluation of psychological status using ICD-11 classification system before and after maxillofacial prosthetic intervention and impact of psychological management tools on the same.: Ten patients with maxillofacial defects reporting for prosthetic rehabilitation were selected. Psychological evaluation tool, ICD-11 classification system was applied pre and post rehabilitation by two independent observers. Customized psychological management protocol was formulated and implemented to note the impact on overall improvement in psychological status of the patient.: Patients with severe personality trait showed varied levels of improvement ranging from no change to mild. Five patients with moderate personality trait showed improvement and change in personality trait to mild on implementation of psychological tools. Statistical evaluation could not be done due to multitude of subjective variables.: ICD-11 can be used as a successful tool for psychological evaluation of patients. Necessary intervention at every level in form of family support, support groups, psychological therapeutic modalities and therapies can improve status of the patient. A well-structured management protocol helps in early recognition of psychological distress and systematic management of the same to improve clinical outcome of the rehabilitation procedure.: Patients with maxillofacial defects experience a progressive cycle of loss and grief. This diminishes their ability to adjust to stress and acceptability towards maxillofacial prosthetic rehabilitation procedure. Assessment of psychological alteration using a standardized classification system and utilization of therapeutic modalities to deal with the same helps in successful rehabilitation and restoration of patient in the society as a whole.

Implant overdentures have ended up being one of the most incredible elective choices in prosthetic recovery of different instances of edentulism. They fulfill the patient's expectations, work on personal satisfaction with their drawn out workableness and unsurprising results. Throughout the long term, critical progressions have occurred in the embed frameworks and the strategies for connections. This paper depicts a case report in which a totally edentulous patient was restored with implant overdenture in mandible and a total denture replacement in the maxilla

Forensic odontology is the branch that comes under forensic science which deals with proper handling, examination and evaluation of dental evidences. This manuscript describes various techniques that can be adopted for denture identification. The labeling method followed here is inclusion method where photographic sheet was used to mark dentures as this sheet is solvent resistant. The area selected for denture marking is palatal area on maxillary denture and distolingual flange of mandibular area as these areas have sufficient space for inclusion of details and there are not esthetically compromising areas. By this method denture labeling could be done in existing prosthetic devices or could be incorporated in newly constructed prosthesis. The American Board of Forensic Odontology guidelines indicate that most dental identifications are based on restorations, caries, missing teeth and/or prosthetic devices.

Traditional methods will be rendered obsolete, if not supplemented by current techniques and evidence. This requires a clinician to continuously recognize, scrutinize and consolidate the best available scientific literature in the field. Continuous improvement in the quality of research conducted, as well as reporting the findings should be encouraged to improve upon current and future treatments. This review showcases the most prominent controversies in prosthodontics and how the current evidence answers the questions. A PubMed, Met line and google scholar search with the keywords, Evidence-based dentistry and Evidence-based Prosthodontics was done from the year 1960-2021. Meta-analysis of randomized control trials and systematic reviews related to the evidence in complete dentures, fixed partial dentures, implants and prosthodontics were considered in the inclusion criteria. Literature reviews and case reports were excluded from the search. Evidence-based practice is a new level of sophistication in the practice of dentistry. Rather than considering the cost of material or the individual preference of the operator, choosing the right technique to maximize clinical efficiency should be based on scientific evidence.

Salivary reservoir in maxillary denture offers an effective, non-invasive approach in the treatment of edentulous patients afflicted with xerostomia. It is always desirable to have large volume reservoir in order to decrease the inconvenience of repeated refilling, however, increased bulk of palatal reservoir often leads to discomfort in speech, swallowing and acceptance of such prosthesis. In designing of size and shape of reservoir in the present case, large volume was achieved utilizing circular palatal resorption area, and proper shape was ensured by duplication of functional palatal contour. Adequate voluntary wetting of mouth was effected by “swallowing control saliva release” mechanism of the flexible reservoir lid. Sunken cheek appearance was addressed by using an easy, economical, and effective method of detachable cheek plumpers.

This study aimed to determine the current background of teaching pre-clinical prosthodontics for post graduate students. It describes the perception of post graduate students regarding the effectiveness of the preclinical prosthodontic curriculum in preparing them to operate efficiently in the clinical setting.: To assess student’s knowledge and perception of preclinical postgraduate prosthodontics course in different dental colleges of India.: The study sample was obtained from 148 postgraduate student, both male and female, an anonymous questionnaire consisting of 15 questions regarding knowledge, attitude and practice of the preclinical curriculum. This research was conducted after getting permission from the respective authority and consent from all respondents. Data acquired from structured questionnaires were analysed and compared by simple percentage method. After careful assessment and graphical representation of responses acquired from participants, results were formulated. Participants expressed through open ended and closed ended questionnaire that exercises conducted for complete denture prostheses and fixed partial denture prostheses were adequate and preclinical curriculum for implantology and maxillofacial prostheses needs to be streamlined. This paper has found that, while all schools make efforts to ensure that their postgraduate dental students are best prepared for subsequent independent practices, prosthodontic education varies among schools. Although some trends in curricular formats and content are evident. This survey indicated that active and passive learning for preclinical prosthodontics and frequent feedback from students plays a vital role.

The retention, stability and comfort of wearing denture is greatly influenced by the flow, quantity and consistency of saliva. Insufficient salivary output results especially in old-aged edentulous patients may result in denture sores because of lack of lubrication by saliva, thus, reducing patient’s ability to retain the prosthesis. Various approaches have been concernes with the use of reservoir with holes have been described in the literature. However the flow of salivary substitute is very difficult to control. Moreover the frequent cleaning of the denture required to maintain the patency of the reservoir holes poses various challenges to the patient. This article explains a novel technique for the incorporation of a reservoir with controlled salivary flow in complete denture to enhance the retention of the prosthesis and thus, improving the comfort of wearing denture and the speech of patient.

A technique is described to facilitate impression making and safely obtain the definitive cast for removable partial dentures with long, retentive, or lone-standing abutment teeth. Firstly, the individualized stock tray receives a coating of melted wax. Next, the prepared teeth are impressed with irreversible hydrocolloid, and the set impression is removed from mouth. The mold is then poured conventionally and, after the gypsum has set, is immersed in hot water to soften the wax and allow removal of the tray. The impression material is carefully cut away with a scalpel blade to expose the cast. With these straightforward and easily made changes compared with the conventional technique, the risk of fracturing the definitive cast is minimized, especially when reproducing long retentive teeth. A dental technique is presented that uses wax to coat the impression tray to facilitate the passive displacement of the cast. This results in a straightforward and precise definitive cast for removable partial dentures.
