The length-weight relationships (LWRs) of Macrobrachium lamarrei (H. Milne-Edwards, 1837) was studied to construct the generalized relationships of body weight to carapace length measurements for male, female and combined prawn population separately over a calendar year. A total of 1018 specimens were used for this study. The parameter values of the equation W = a Lb describing the relationships between body weight and carapace length for male, female and combined prawns. The parameter of equations, a varied from 0.00096 to 0.00333, 0.00059 to 0.00728 and 0.00081 to 0.00440 for male, female and combined prawn population respectively. On the other hand, the slope of equations, b varied from 2.4363 to 2.8229, 2.0761 to 3.0314 and 2.2915 to 2.8998 for male, female and combined prawn population respectively indicating isometric growth in females but negative allometric for males suggesting that female prawns were comparatively in better condition than males of the same population. The generalized length-weight relationship was fitted with the pooled data of all monthly samples for male, female and combined prawn separately which were BW = 0.0008 CL2.924, BW = 0.0012 CL2.783 and BW = 0.0010CL2.845 respectively indicating negative allometric growth as b varied from 2.783 to 2.924. Abstract Background The present study was performed to determine carapace length–body weight relationship of Charybdis callianassa. In fisheries biology, length–weight relationships are important as they allow for the calculation, by creating a mathematical equation between the two, of the total weight of the fish in a particular group in fish. Such information is helpful for fishery scientists to research the dynamics of development and populations and for public agencies that can maintain and preserve these resources sustainably. Results A study on the carapace length–body weight relationship of Charybdis callianassa (Herbst, 1789) was made on the northwest coast of India for the first time. The study was based on experimental trawl fishing conducted fortnightly from August 2019 to March 2020. A total of 479 specimens, including 262 males and 217 females from fishing trawler, were examined for their carapace length and total weight. The carapace length ranged from 2.69 to 3.54 cm, and the total weight from 5.26 to 7.36 g. This analysis revealed that the crabs exhibited negative allometric development, as shown by average exponents 'b' = 2.71 for pooled data with high coefficient (r) = 0.91 and r2 = 0.83. Conclusions The carapace length–body weight relationship of Charybdis callianassa in relation to sex and carapace was studied in the Mumbai coastal water, India. We found major differences in the average “r2” values of species reported for males (0.89), females (0.79) and pooled data (0.83). Such kind of study is essential for fisheries biology to comprehend the differences in circumstances in small and large specimens that vary with environmental conditions and seasons.

Schizothorax curvifrons, an indigenous cyprinid fish of Kashmir, forms an important coldwater fishery resource of the valley. This study was aimed to describe the morphometrics and length-weight relationship of S. curvifrons in River Jhelum Kashmir. The various morphometric characters showed high co-efficient of correlation (r) values, indicating that the characters were highly correlated to each other. The length-weight relationship was established logarithmically as Log W = -3.9323 + 2.5863 Log L (r2=0.746) for males, Log W = -4.1708 + 2.6852 (r2=0.745) Log L for females and Log W = -3.9975 + 2.6138 Log L (r2=0.746) for pooled data. The b value (2.6138) was found to be significantly different from 3 indicating negative allometric growth.

The present study was carried out on freshwater crab in hillstream Khoh of district Pauri Garhwal in Uttarakhand state. Samples of crab were collected from the population inhabits the hillstream Khoh on monthly basis during May 2011 to April 2012. The regression equations for the length-weight relationship in crabs were obtained as Y=2.045X+0.266 and Y=1.522X+0.392 for males and females respectively. The ANOVA test revealed significant differences in carapace length-weight relationship at p<0.05 for both the sexes. Allometric growth pattern was observed in the study for both sexes of P. koolooense. A weak relationship was observed between length and weight of the specimen.

The study of length-weight relationship of a hill-stream loach, Schistura rupicola McClelland collected from Lampengwa Khola, Nepal was done using the least square formula W=aLTb. The values of 'a' and 'b' calculated from the measurement of total length and total body weight were -2.1431 and 3.0508 respectively. The species of Liza tade were collected from Mawlamyine, Mon State, Myanmar during June 2018 to May 2019. The analysis of fishes was based on 1264 specimens ranging in size from 10 to 30cm and in weight from 15 to 190g. The length-weight relationship of L. tade was determined for males, females and combined sexes as W=0.016L2.82, W=0.016L2.84 and W=0.016L2.83 respectively. The samples have been found to be negative allometric growth pattern (b˂3). The results indicated that the value of correlation coefficient (r) for males, females and combined sexes were as 0.972, 0.975 and 0.973, which were closer to 1 indicating that the length-weight relationship was highly correlated. The condition factor (K) was recorded as 1.088 for males, 1.140 for females and 1.114 for all individuals respectively.

Nine neonatal and juvenile snakes, four vipers and five nonvipers, were fed rodent meals varying in size, expressed as percent of snake body weight. The number of mandibular protractions and the time to complete swallowing were recorded, with both measures increasing linearly as a function of meal size. These young snakes routinely swallowed meals that were 50% of body weight, and ranged up to 80%, far higher than meals reported by previous workers studying adult vipers (36.4%) and nonvipers (18.4%). Furthermore, the slopes of regressions relating mandibular protractions to meal size in all of our snakes were lower than comparable slopes for adult vipers or nonvipers. We hypothesized that the relatively long and wide skulls of young snakes (i.e., as proportion of body length) were responsible for these ingestive accomplishments, with negative allometric growth being responsible for performance changes during ontogeny.

The length–weight relationship for 298 pomfret (Brama japonica) ranging in fork length from 30 to 49 cm, and caught in 1956 and 1957 in the Gulf of Alaska by gillnets varying in mesh size from [Formula: see text] (63 mm) to [Formula: see text] inches (133 mm) was examined. Covariance analysis of the data indicated that within years the length–weight relationship did not differ between males and females; and, on the average, both males and females of a particular length were significantly heavier in 1956 than in 1957. Allometric equations for each year based on data for sexes combined are considered more appropriate than a single equation based on pooled data. The equations relating weight in kilograms to length in centimeters, for 1956 and 1957, respectively, are[Formula: see text]and apply to the lower third of the known size range for pomfret in the Gulf of Alaska.

The allometric growth of Uca leptodactyla from two distinct subtropical estuaries on the Brazilian coast was evaluated concerning its growth pattern and size at onset of sexual maturity. Females attained maturity at similar sizes in both sites (4·1 mm of carapace length in Indaiá and 4·2 mm in Ubatumirim), while males differed slightly. They reached the size at sexual maturity of 5·3 mm of carapace length in Indaiá and 4·6 mm in Ubatumirim. Growth pattern is usually similar among crabs from distinct sites while size at sexual maturity is frequently different. However, in the case of U. leptodactyla it did not occur, probably due to the strong habitat similarity and intrinsic features of this species.
