Primary intramuscular hydatid cyst of thigh is a very rare parasitic disease caused by Echinococcus granulosus. We present an unusual case of primary hydatid cyst in a 21-year old male who presented with slowly growing painless lump in the anteromedial aspect of proximal right thigh. Ultrasonography of the mass revealed a multiloculated cyst in the medial compartment of right proximal thigh without detectable primary any other location. MRI clearly displayed the lesion showing cystic mass with multiple well defined daughter cysts and diagnosis of hydatid cyst was made. The patient was treated surgically and cyst was excised. Macroscopic and microscopic histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of muscular hydatid cyst. Primary muscular hydatidosis is kept in mind in the differential diagnosis of a cystic mass of a skeletal muscle especially in endemic areas.TAJ 2011; 24(2): 142-144

Hydatid cyst is a parasitic disease caused by Echinococcus granulosus or Echinococcus multilocularis. Humans are accidentally infected with the parasite. The cyst is usually found in the liver and lungs and rarely occurs in other body parts. The present article describes a rare case of pelvic hydatid cyst in a young man who presented with nausea, vomiting, and right abdominal pain. Two large cystic masses were discovered during a CT scan in the patient’s pelvic region, resulting in right urinary tract hydroureteronephrosis. Additionally, the antibody index was used to confirm the presence of a primary hydatid cyst.

Hydatid cyst caused byEchinococcus granulosusdemonstrates an endemic infection in several countries such as Middle Eastern countries. Liver is the most frequently involved organ, followed by the lung. The case we present is solitary primary localization of cyst in abdominal wall which is extremely rare. A 57-year-old woman presented with an abdominal wall lesion in umbilical area that had been evolving for about 2 years with recent complaint of pain and discomfort. We detected a midline abdominal mass12⁎13centimeters in diameter which was bulged out in umbilicus. Preoperative clinical diagnosis of incarcerated umbilical hernia was made due to its physical examination while surgical exploration disproved the primary diagnosis and we found cystic mass adherent to superficial fascia without any communication to peritoneal space. The cyst was excised completely without any injury or perforation of containing capsule. The diagnosis of hydatid cyst was confirmed by histopathological examination of specimen. The retrograde evaluation showed no involvement of other organs. The patient was followed for two years and no recurrence of hydatid disease has been observed. Hydatid cyst should be considered as a differential diagnosis of abdominal wall and umbilical lesions especially in endemic regions.

Background: Hydatid cyst is a parasitic disease which can affect the central nervous system. Objective: The purpose of the study is to reveal the clinical findings and the effect of giant the intracranial hydatid cyst at frontoparietal region, which is a rare finding. Results: A patients with right frontoparietal hydatid cyst was admitted in our hospital with history of headache, seizure and left upper limb weakness. We operated the patient and postoperatively developed hydrocephalous and pseudocyst at the site of operation. Cystoperitoneal shunt was done. The patient was medically treated by albendazole. The patient cured postoperatively. Conclusion: Patients with intracranial hydatid cyst can be treated surgically and with albendazole. Bangladesh Journal of Neuroscience 2015; Vol. 31 (2): 116-120

Splenic Hydatid Cyst is a very rare presentation with less than 5% of total incidences of Cystic Echinococcosis. It is usually due to spread of cysts from other regions leading to secondaries. Primary isolated splenic hydatid cyst without involvement of any other organs is even rarer. We report an unusual case of a female who presented as Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (AUB) with an incidental finding of Isolated Splenic Hydatid Cyst with absence of involvement of any other organ. Patient underwent laparotomy and total splenectomy was done. This case report targets to report a rare case of incidental finding of isolated unilocular hydatid cyst of spleen and describes its management.

Hydatid cyst is a parasitic disease caused by tapeworm Echinococcus. It affects the liver and lung most commonly, but may rarely affect fallopian tube, broad ligament and other structures. One such peculiar case is where a 17 years old female presented with a rapidly growing cystic mass in lower abdomen, clinically suspicious of ovarian mass or mesentric cyst. Investigations failed to identify the nature. On laparotomy, excision of the mass was done. Suprisingly histopathological examination identified the lesion as hydatid cyst arising from the broad ligament. Patient responded well to surgical excision followed by albendazole administration. Female genital tract hydatidosis is a rare entity and in most cases the involvement is secondary. Primary hydatid disease of female genital tract is even very rarer and generates considerable diagnostic difficulty.
