Along with the rapid development of technology and the development of civilization, electrical energy is very important in all fields. This research will conduct a study on the electrical protection system design of PT Semen Padang's Indarung VI Cement Plant using the ETAP 12.6 software. PT Semen Padang's Indarung VI Cement Plant uses three transformers of 150 / 6.3 kV of 30/35 MVA (ONAN / ONAF) and each Main Substation has substations that will supply all the loads to be used. The power flow study shows that the addition of a capacitor bank and a tap changer setting will improve the power factor and voltage of the system, thereby reducing the power supply sent by PLN. The short circuit study shows that the largest short circuit current, which is 35 kA, can be protected by a circuit breaker with a breaking capacity of 40 kA. The protection system coordination study shows that the results of the overcurrent relay setting can protect the electrical system of Indarung VI Cement Plant selectively and safely.

The inclusion of distributed energy resources (DER) in Microgrids (MGs) comes at the expense of increased changes in current direction and magnitude. In the autonomous mode of MG operation, the penetration of synchronous distributed generators (DGs) induces lower short circuit current than when the MG operates in the grid-connected mode. Such behavior impacts the overcurrent relays and makes the protection coordination difficult. This paper introduces a novel adaptive protection system that includes two phases to handle the influence of fault current variations and enable the MG to sustain its operation. The first phase optimizes the power flow by minimizing the generators’ active power loss while considering tolerable disturbances. For intolerable cases, the second phase opts to contain the effect of disturbance within a specific area, whose boundary is determined through correlation between primary/backup relay pairs. A directional overcurrent relay (DOCR) coordination optimization is formulated as a nonlinear program for minimizing the operating time of the relays within the contained area. Validation is carried out through the simulation of the IEEE 9, IEEE 14, and IEEE 15 bus systems as an autonomous MG. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed protection system and its superiority to a competing approach in the literature.

Embalut power plant is one of the power plants that supply electricity in East Kalimantan. The plant which is operated by PT. Cahaya Fajar Kaltim, has one PLTU unit with a capacity of 2x25 MW and another with the capacity of 1x60 MW. As an electricity company that must keep continuity of electric supply to customers, a reliable electrical system is necessary. Such reliable system requires protection system to detect a problem and avoid electrical equipment damage. A proper protection system should isolate the affected area and prevent black out on the other area. A type of problem may occur is a short circuit. This study analyzes the performance of overcurrent relays in 1 × 60 MW power plant unit. The analysis was performed through ETAP 12.6.0 software which was also used to design the single line diagrams, calculate the setting currents of short circuit current, also to simulate the coordination of several overcurrent relays in the system. Adjustment of the current and time value in the overcurrent relay is obtained from the result of manual calculations. The results then are displayed in the form of a characteristic curve. Afterwards, a simulation is performed in a situation where three-phase short circuit occurs at BFWP 1.3 Bus, TR AUX.3 Bus and TR 3A.3 Bus. The results show that the overcurrent relays work properly and could overcome the problem quickly.

The coordination between protective devices is the process of determining the most appropriate timing of power interruption during abnormal conditions in the power system. The aim of this work is to coordinate the protection of the 33/11 kV power distribution substation in Iraq using the CYME 7.1 software package. In this paper overcurrent and earth fault relays are simulated in two cases, with time delay setting and instantaneous setting, to obtain the Time Current Characteristics (TCC) curves for each Circuit Breaker (CB) relay of Al-Karama substation (2×31.5 MVA, 33/11 kV) in Babil distribution network. The short circuit current at each CB is calculated and accordingly, the protection coordination for Al-Karama substation has been simulated. The TCC curves have been obtained in two cases for overcurrent and earth fault relays; in a case with time delay setting and in the case with the instantaneous setting. The setting takes into consideration the short circuit current at the furthest point of the longest outgoing feeder and the shortest outgoing feeder.

The solar cells have been used as most promising device to convert light energy into electrical energy. In this paper authors have attempted to fabricate Photoelectrochemical solar cell with semiconductor electrode using TMDCs. The Photoelectrochemical solar cells are the solar cells which convert the solar energy into electrical energy. The photoelectrochemical cells are clean and inexhaustible sources of energy. The photoelectrochemical solar cells are fabricated using WSe2crystal and electrolyte solution of 0.025M I2, 0.5M NaI, 0.5M Na2SO4. Here the WSe2crystals were grown by direct vapour transport technique. In our investigations the solar cell parameters like short circuit current (Isc) and Open circuit voltage (Voc) were measured and from that Fill factor (F.F.) and photoconversion efficiency (η) are investigated. The results obtained shows that the value of efficiency and fill factor of solar cell varies with the illumination intensities.

In this paper, a new concept of short-circuit current (SCC) reduction for power distribution systems is presented and analyzed. Conventional fault current limiters (FCLs) are connected in series with a circuit breaker (CB) that is required to limit the short-circuit current. Instead, the proposed scheme consisted of the parallel connection of a current-controlled power converter to the same bus intended to reduce the amplitude of the short-circuit current. This power converter was controlled to absorb a percentage of the short-circuit current from the bus to reduce the amplitude of the short-circuit current. The proposed active short-circuit current reduction scheme was implemented with a cascaded H-bridge power converter and tested by simulation in a 13.2 kV industrial power distribution system for three-phase faults, showing the effectiveness of the short-circuit current attenuation in reducing the maximum current requirement in all circuit breakers connected to the same bus. The paper also presents the design characteristics of the power converter and its associated control scheme.

In order to solve the imminent problem in that the traditional protection strategy cannot meet time requirements, together with the fact that the rotational inertia of a DC microgrid is small and short-circuit fault develops rapidly, a bidirectional short-circuit current blocker (BSCCB) based on solid-state circuit breaker for a DC microgrid is proposed. Firstly, the bidirectional current blocking circuit structure is proposed based on the analysis of key components. Then, a top-level differential protection strategy is developed based on the aforementioned proposal. Finally, the performance of the blocking circuit is simulated and verified by experiments. The results show that the proposed method can block short-circuit current within 4 ms, and the response speed of the protection strategy is very fast compared with previous approaches. BSCCB also has reclosing, bidirectional blocking and energy releasing functions. The current blocker proposed in this paper can be reused multiple times and has a promising future in low-voltage DC microgrid application.

Electrical Power System protection is required to protectboth the user and the system equipment itself fromany fault, hence electrical power system is not allowed to operate without any protection devices installed. Power System fault is defined as the undesirable condition that occurs in the power system. Some of these undesirable conditions are short circuit, current leakage, ground faultand over-under voltage. With the increasing loads, voltages and short-circuit duty in power plant, over voltage protection has become more important today. Here, the component that had been used is PIC 16F877a microcontroller to control the whole system and especially on the circuit breakers as well as the LCT display unit is used to display the voltage level and type of generator that used to serve the load. Sensors are used to measure both thevoltage and the load. The controlled digital signal from PIC microcontroller is converted by using the digital analog converter to control the whole circuit. Thus a device called protective relay is created to meet this requirement. The protective relay is mostlyoften coupled with circuit breaker in a way that it can isolate the abnormal condition in the system.
