Two different tetravalent polysaccharide vaccines against group A, C, Y, and W135 meningococci were given to 118 infants aged 6 to 23 months; the same vaccines were administered in a second dose 12 months later to those infants aged 6 to 11 months at first vaccination. Forty of the infants received vaccine containing the nonacetylated group C polysaccharide C(OAc-) and 78 the acetylated group C polysaccharide C(OAc+) together with group A, Y, and W135 polysaccharides. All polysaccharides, at a dose of 30 µg, induced antibody responses after administration of both vaccines in all age groups although the responses were better in the older infants. Acetylation of the sialic acid of the group C polysaccharide did not significantly influence the response. Rapid decreases in the antibody titers after the first vaccination stressed the need for one or more revaccinations. Vaccination elicited mild local and systemic reactions. Elevated temperatures were more common in the youngest infants but only four developed fever exceeding 38.5°C (101.3°F). We conclude that tetravalent (ACYW135) meningococcal vaccine is safe and immunologically effective in children younger than age 2 years. However, revaccinations may be required to maintain immunity.

Nasya karma is considered a prime treatment modality in all types of Shiroroga (Headache) and also in Suryavar- tha (Frontal Sinusitis). Suryavartha (Frontal Sinusitis) is one of the 11 types of Shiroroga. It is one of the com- mon clinical conditions found in day to day general as well as Shalakya (ENT) practice. It presents with headache as one of its cardinal features and its occurrence is found in both genders and in all age groups. Objective: To study the efficacy of Shireeshadi Avapeedana Nasya in the management of Suryavartha (Frontal Sinusitis). Ma- terial methods: Twenty patients of Suryavartha (Frontal Sinusitis) were diagnosed and registered for the clinical study irrespective of sex, socio-economic status, and religion. The study was divided into two groups - Group A and Group B. Group – A patients were treated with Shireeshadi Avapeedana Nasya for 7 days and Group – B patients were treated by Nasya with milk for 7 days. Observation and result: Among 20 patients of Suryavartha / frontal sinusitis, 20 (100%) of patients had headache, 11 (55%) had nasal blockage, 05 (25%) had nasal dis- charge, 08 (40%) had foul smell in their breath and 14 (70%) have variations from normal X-Ray. The severity of headache is significantly reduced after treatment in both Groups A and B (92.95% and 73.07%) respectively. Conclusion: Administration of Shireeshadi Avapeeda Nasya showed statistically significant improvement in the management of Suryavartha (Frontal Sinusitis). Chronic constipation (CC) is an important medical and social problem, as it can lead to the development of complications, fecal intoxication, social disadaptation and self-isolation of a child, as well as significantly reduce the quality of life. The article presents the results of a clinical study of CC in children using a new diagnostic method - transabdominal and transperianal ultrasound examination (US) of the colon and anorectal zone. The objective of the study was to analyze the course of CC in children depending on the mechanism of its formation according to US of the colon and anorectal zone. Materials and methods of research: the prospective cohort study included 470 children with an established diagnosis of CC at the age of 1 month to 17 years old. The patients were divided into 3 age groups: 1 month. – 3 years (n=166), 4–10 years (n=102), 11–17 years (n=202). The median follow-up was 48 months. The age distribution of children with CC was carried out on the basis of the frequency of visits, against the background of the beginning of attending kindergarten and/or elementary school groups, and the emergence of psychological problems due to the difficulty of going to a public toilet. An evaluation of analysis of the dynamics of US changes in the colon and anorectal zone was carried out by the method of ultrasound diagnosis of Hirschsprung's disease in children (patent № 2547614, authors M.I. Pykov, M.M. Kolisnichenko, I.V. Poddubny). Results: in children aged 1 month to 3 years, 66.9% of cases are statistically significantly dominated by proctogenic constipation type of constipation with US signs of anus spasm and anal sphincter insufficiency. In children aged 4 to 10 years, the mixed mechanism of CC formation prevails (41.1%), and in patients aged 11 to 17 years – cologenic (77.7%), for which the most typical ultrasound signs are dolichocolon (22.8%), anus spasm (8.7%), anal sphincter insufficiency (4.7%). It has been established that despite adequate therapy, the number of patients with the above-described mechanisms of formation of CC increases, which indicates the recurrence and progression of pathological process in children of different age groups. Conclusion: the proposed diagnostic method – transabdominal and transperianal US of the colon and anorectal zone is a highly informative, pathogenetically substantiated method for examining the state of the colon and anorectal zone in children with CC, built on precise objective criteria that are available at any age.

Objective: To compare the efficacy of caries removal, time taken and to evaluate the pain threshold experienced by the patient during various caries removal methods. Study Design: Eighty patients between the age groups of 5-9 years were selected and caries removal was done by Hand instruments, Airotor, Carisolv and Papacarie. The efficacy, time taken and the pain threshold was evaluated during the caries removal by Ericson D et al scale, visual analogue scale respectively. Results: Highly significant relation (<0.05) was observed when intergroup comparison was made using one way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Conclusion:It was concluded that chemomechanical removal of caries with Papacarie and Carisolv were found to be effective measures of caries removal and could be considered as viable alternatives to painful procedures like Airotor in management of dental caries especially in children.
