Nasya karma is considered a prime treatment modality in all types of Shiroroga (Headache) and also in Suryavar- tha (Frontal Sinusitis). Suryavartha (Frontal Sinusitis) is one of the 11 types of Shiroroga. It is one of the com- mon clinical conditions found in day to day general as well as Shalakya (ENT) practice. It presents with headache as one of its cardinal features and its occurrence is found in both genders and in all age groups. Objective: To study the efficacy of Shireeshadi Avapeedana Nasya in the management of Suryavartha (Frontal Sinusitis). Ma- terial methods: Twenty patients of Suryavartha (Frontal Sinusitis) were diagnosed and registered for the clinical study irrespective of sex, socio-economic status, and religion. The study was divided into two groups - Group A and Group B. Group – A patients were treated with Shireeshadi Avapeedana Nasya for 7 days and Group – B patients were treated by Nasya with milk for 7 days. Observation and result: Among 20 patients of Suryavartha / frontal sinusitis, 20 (100%) of patients had headache, 11 (55%) had nasal blockage, 05 (25%) had nasal dis- charge, 08 (40%) had foul smell in their breath and 14 (70%) have variations from normal X-Ray. The severity of headache is significantly reduced after treatment in both Groups A and B (92.95% and 73.07%) respectively. Conclusion: Administration of Shireeshadi Avapeeda Nasya showed statistically significant improvement in the management of Suryavartha (Frontal Sinusitis). In Tamaka Swasa there is condition of (1) Yapyatva (palliative) and (2) Chirakaritva (chronic) and (3) more Kshaya of Rasha Dhatus (decrease in the immunity) in this condition, the patient need a special type of management which can combated above three condition. Tamaka Swasa which is compared with Bronchial Asthma is a common problem and its prevalence is in all age groups irrespective of sex. Among five types of Swasa Roga, Tamaka Swasa is one of the most common and very well explained in Ayurvedic classics which can be compared with asthma in modern science. Mortality due to asthma is not comparable in size to the day today effect of the disease. Although largely avoidable, asthma tends to occur in epidemics and effect young people. The human and economic burden associated with this condition is severe. The study is carried out as a comparative study of Vamana and Virechana. In this Group (Group–A), Vamana was given to the patients. Total 15 patients were registered. In this Group (Group–B), patients were taken for Virechana. Total 15 patients were registered.

AbstractAbout 300 cases of confirmed cervical spondylosis of both sexes and different age groups were included in the trial. Group A (n = 154) were mostly unilateral with few symptoms. Calcarea fluorata (Calc-f) was given in various potencies, clinical improvement was 60.38%. Group B (n = 54) with many characteristic mental and physical generals were repertorized (Kent); clinical improvement was 48%. In Group C (n = 86) the condition was mostly associated with other diseases, with frequently changing symptoms. Drug selection was on the totality of symptoms, and clinical improvement was 12.8%. Calc-f given on the basis of pathological prescription gave good results.

SummaryBlood coagulation in a strain of rabbits designated as Watanabe heritable hyperlipidemic (WHHL) rabbits was examined. The activities of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors, contact factors and clotting factor VIII (F VIII) and the fibrinogen level were significantly higher in WHHL rabbits than in normolipidemic rabbits (all age groups). Values for vitamin Independent clotting factor were already higher at 2 months of age. Contact factors and fibrinogen levels increased age after 5 to 8 months. F VIII increased between 5 and 8 months and then decreased. At 2 months of age, WHHL rabbits were divided into two groups. Group A was fed standard rabbit chow and group B standard rabbit chow containing 1% probucol. Probucol prevented the progression of atherosclerosis in group B in the absence of a significant reduction in plasma cholesterol level. F VIII and fibrinogen levels were statistically decreased in all rabbits at all ages in group B (P<0.05). These differences in clotting factors between the two groups were most obvious at 8 months (P<0.02).We conclude that vitamin K-dependent clotting factors may increase with hyperlipemia and that increases in F VIII and fibrinogen may be closely related to the progression of throm- boatherosclerosis.

Pathological changes in the prostate gland occur commonly with advancing age including inflammation, atrophy, hyperplasia and carcinoma and a change in volume is also evident. Estimation of volume of prostate may be useful in a variety of clinical settings. A cross-sectional descriptive study was designed to see the changes in volume of the prostate with advancing age and done in the Department of Anatomy, Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka from August 2006 to June 2007. The study was performed on 70 post-mortem human prostates collected from the unclaimed dead bodies that were under examination in the Department of Forensic Medicine, Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka. The samples were divided into three age groups; group A (10-20 years), group B (21-40 years) and group C (41-70 years). Volume of the sample was measured by using the ellipsoid formula. The mean ± SD volume of prostate was 7.68 ± 3.64 cm3 in group A, 10.61 ± 3.99 cm3 in group B and 15.40 ± 6.31 cm3 in group C. Mean difference in volume between group A and group C, group B and group C were statistically significant (p<0.001). Statistically significant positive correlation was found between age and volume of prostate (r = + 0.579, p < 0.001). Key Words: Prostate; volume; Bangladeshi. DOI: 10.3329/imcj.v4i2.6501Ibrahim Med. Deep cervical fascia forms a connective tissue sheath around the thyroid gland. Delicate trabeculae and septa penetrate the gland indistinctly dividing the gland into lobes and lobules which in turn composed of follicles.1,2,3 These follicles are structural units of thyroid gland which varies greatly in size and shape.4 The number of follicles varies in different age groups. The study was carried out to see the percentage of area occupied by follicles in the stained section of thyroid glands in different age groups. The collected samples were grouped as A (3.5 – 20yrs), B (21- 40yrs) & C (41 – 78yrs). Percentage of area occupied by follicles was (58.55±10.72) in group A, (63.79±12.35) in group B + (63.39±8.29) in group C.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/updcj.v1i2.13981 Update Dent. Dushta Vrana is a common and frequently encountered problem faced in surgical practice. The presence of Dushta Vrana worsens the condition of the patient with different complications and may become fatal. Local factors on wound like slough, infection and foreign body, affect the normal process of healing. A healthy wound in a normal body heals earlier with a minimum scar as compared to a contaminated wound. Therefore in this study all the efforts are made to make a Dushta Vrana into a Shuddha Vrana. Once the Vrana becomes Shuddha, Ropana of the Vrana will start. The objective of the study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of Jatyadi Taila and Jatyadi Ghrita in Dushta Vrana. Clinically diagnosed 60 Patients of Dushta Vrana were randomly divided into two groups, each consisting of 30 Patients. Group A were treated with the Jatyadi Taila and Group B was treated by Jatyadi Ghrita. The results observed was based on the relief obtained on the subjective and objective parameters taken for consideration for this study viz, size of ulcer, discharge, smell, pain, burning sensation, itching and granulation were found significant (P Lass Than 0.05). On the basis of assessment criteria and overall result of treatment, the patients of Jatyadi Taila group showed better results when compared to Jatyadi Ghrita group. Even though statistically there is no much significant difference between the two groups, but by seeing the effect on individual parameters (subjective and objective) and over all response, Jatyadi Taila seems to be effective when compared to Jatyadi Ghrita. It is having more Ropana qualities when compared to Shodhana.

Objective. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of left atrial (LA) size for the ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF) using remote magnetic navigation (RMN). Methods. A total of 165 patients with AF who underwent catheter ablation using RMN were included. The patients were divided into two groups based on LA diameter. Eighty-three patients had small LA (diameter <40 mm; Group A), and 82 patients had a large LA (diameter ≥40 mm; Group B). Results. During mapping and ablation, X-ray time (37.0 (99.0) s vs. 12 (30.1) s, P<0.001) and X-ray dose (1.4 (2.7) gy·cm2 vs. 0.7 (2.1) gy·cm2, P=0.013) were significantly higher in Group A. No serious complications occurred in any of the patients. There was no statistical difference in the rate of first anatomical attempt of pulmonary vein isolation between the two groups (71.1% vs. 57.3%, P=0.065). However, compared with Group B, the rate of sinus rhythm was higher (77.1% vs. 58.5%, P<0.001) during the follow-up period. More patients in Group A required a sheath adjustment (47/83 vs. 21/82, P<0.001), presumably due to less magnets positioned outside of the sheath. In vitro experiments with the RMN catheter demonstrated that only one magnet exposed created the sheath affects which influenced the flexibility of the catheter. Conclusions. AF ablation using RMN is safe and effective in both small and large LA patients. Patients with small LA may pose a greater difficulty when using RMN which may be attributed to the fewer magnets beyond the sheath. As a result, the exposure of radiation was increased. This study found that having at least two magnets of the catheter positioned outside of the sheath can ensure an appropriate flexibility of the catheter.

Objectives: The main goal of this research was to determine the differences between the values of intraocular pressure (IOP) in the supine and sitting positions, and to assess the effect of age and cardiovascular parameters. Methods: Seventy-two healthy adults were enrolled and classified into age groups: 20–30 years (group A), 31–40 years (group B), and 41–71 years (group C). Corneal biometry and cardiovascular parameters, such as heart rate (HR), were measured. IOP measurements were taken in the sitting position (IOPS) and in the supine position (IOPL) using the iCare® Pro tonometer. Results: A significant difference between the IOPS and IOPL in the entire cohort was found ( p < 0.001). Regarding the age subgroups, a significant difference ( p < 0.001) between the IOPS and IOPL was obtained in group A (2.6 ± 1.6 mmHg) and group C (1.5 ± 1.3 mmHg). There were no significant differences in the IOPS between groups. The highest IOP values were obtained for group A. The correlations between HR and IOPS are statistically significant for group A and group B, and for HR and IOPL-S for group B only. Multivariate analysis showed that HR has a significant influence on the difference in IOP in the two body positions. Conclusion: A statistically significant difference between the effect of age and the values of IOPS and IOPL was shown. Cardiovascular parameters showed some relevant statistical dependencies, but with a rather marginal significance in young people. The influence of body position for the measurement of IOP for healthy subjects does not seem to matter, despite the fact that there are some dependencies that are statistically significant.

Lower back pain is one of the most common problems in adults all over the world, and chances of having back pain increases with the age. Objectives: To determine the effect of tailored motor control rehabilitation versus standard exercise program in chronic nonspecific lower back pain. Study Design: Non randomized clinical study. Methodology: A non randomized clinical study was conducted in six-month during 2018 after ethical approval. 40 patients were enrolled through non-probability purposive sampling technique and allocated into two groups (Group A & B). Informed consent was obtained. Individuals between twenty to forty years with chronic nonspecific low back pain with intensity at least 3 on a 10cm visual analog scale (VAS) were included and individuals with past history of trauma of the spine and hip and with any red flags were excluded. Outcomes were measures by Modified Oswestry Disability Index (MODI) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Statistical analysis: Data was analyzed by SPSS software, version 19 as qualitative variables were expressed as mean ± SD. Independent sample T test was also applied. Results: The mean age Group A was 29.05±8.58 and Group B, was 32.05±6.53 years. The result shows that there was a significant difference in outcomes among tailored motorcontrol rehabilitation (Group A) and standard exercise program (Group B). Conclusion: We concluded that motor control rehabilitation was more effective than standard exercise program in decreasing low back pain and improving quality of life. Key Words: Low Back Pain, Tailored Motor Control Rehabilitation, Standard Exercise Program and Modified Oswastry Disability Index.

Two different tetravalent polysaccharide vaccines against group A, C, Y, and W135 meningococci were given to 118 infants aged 6 to 23 months; the same vaccines were administered in a second dose 12 months later to those infants aged 6 to 11 months at first vaccination. Forty of the infants received vaccine containing the nonacetylated group C polysaccharide C(OAc-) and 78 the acetylated group C polysaccharide C(OAc+) together with group A, Y, and W135 polysaccharides. All polysaccharides, at a dose of 30 µg, induced antibody responses after administration of both vaccines in all age groups although the responses were better in the older infants. Acetylation of the sialic acid of the group C polysaccharide did not significantly influence the response. Rapid decreases in the antibody titers after the first vaccination stressed the need for one or more revaccinations. Vaccination elicited mild local and systemic reactions. Elevated temperatures were more common in the youngest infants but only four developed fever exceeding 38.5°C (101.3°F). We conclude that tetravalent (ACYW135) meningococcal vaccine is safe and immunologically effective in children younger than age 2 years. However, revaccinations may be required to maintain immunity.
