To “bring carbon emissions to a peak by 2030 and to be carbon-neutral by 2060”, the role of renewable energy consumption and carbon emission trading are promoted. As an important energy consumer of regional energy system, it is necessary for integrated energy system to ensure the low-carbon economic operation of the system. Combined with the responsibility of renewable energy consumption, green certificate trading mechanism, carbon emission rights trading, and China Certified Emission Reduction (CCER), a regional integrated energy system operation optimization model was proposed. The model aims to minimize the total cost of the system, which included with electric bus, thermal bus, and cold bus. Setting different scenarios for the given example, the results show that the optimized model could effectively reduce the operating costs of the system. Moreover, the results also provide an effective reference for the system’s economic and low-carbon operation.

The Integrated Energy System (IES) offers a new approach to the energy dilemma. It introduces demand-side response into the Regional Integrated Energy System (RIES) and proposes an operational optimization model considering Integrated Demand Side Response (IDSR) in the framework of RIES. First of all, the typical cold\thermal\electric RIES is used as a framework to establish the multi-energy flow model of RIES based on the energy flow relationships among energy production, conversion and consumption. Then, from the perspective of energy transfer, the potential to enhance renewable energy consumption by carrying out RIES to transfer the system energy flow is analyzed. Finally, the RIES operation optimization model considering IDSR is established with the goal of the economy of system operation, considering the system energy balance and the operating constraints of each energy device, and the solution algorithm is designed. Taking the RIES in a certain region as an example, the proposed method and model were verified computationally, and the results showed that IDR can effectively improve system economics and increase the level of renewable energy consumption.

The development of renewable energy is an important cooperation theme among countries along the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI countries). Through map description, we first explore the changes in renewable energy consumption in BRI countries. Then, β-convergence is employed to examine the development direction of renewable energy consumption in BRI countries. Finally, based on the expanded Kaya equation, we decompose the factors effecting renewable energy consumption into energy structure effect, energy intensity effect, low-carbon economic effect, carbon emission effect, population distribution effect and population effect. The Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index (LMDI) is utilized to calculate the contribution of each factor to renewable energy consumption in the expanded Kaya equation. Our research reaches the following conclusions: (1) β-convergence exists in renewable energy consumption among BRI countries, indicating that it will converge to a relatively stable level, and countries with low renewable energy consumption will increase their renewable energy consumption with a higher convergence rate to chase the countries with high renewable energy consumption. (2) Energy structure effect makes a positive impact on renewable energy consumption, and is the main contributor to renewable energy consumption. (3) The energy intensity effect makes a negative contribution to renewable energy consumption, and the negative impact has deepened in recent years. (4) Both the low-carbon economic effect and the carbon emission effect have positive impacts on renewable energy consumption. Our research not only provides a description of the experience of developing renewable energy for BRI countries, but also makes reference to other organizations.

Abstact This empirical study aims to investigate the dynamic response of renewable energy consumption to long-run disequilibrium and short-run impact of tourism development and agricultural land usage for the period of 1995 to 2014 in 16 Coastline Mediterranean Countries. For this reason, a dynamic Autoregressive Distributed Lag approach is employed in a multivariate and two-model framework such that carbon emission and gross domestic product are being controlled for in the models. Significantly, there is evidence of a joint impact of tourism development and agricultural land usage on renewable energy consumption. With a speed of adjustment of 21.6% from short-run disequilibrium to long run, their respective panel elasticities are 0.33 and negative 1.60 in the long run. Significant evidence shows that nine of the Coastline Mediterranean Countries have tourism development as a short-run factor while Slovenia and Cyprus exhibit a short-run common factor. Also, Granger causality evidences from carbon emission, gross domestic product and tourism development to renewable energy are all with feedbacks. However, Granger causality from agricultural land usage to renewable energy is without feedback. In the region, effective policy implementations through the collaborative effort of stakeholders will ensure a sustainable renewable energy development amidst agricultural and tourism activities.

With the depletion of fossil energy and the popularity of renewable energy, a comprehensive energy system with the goal of improving system energy efficiency and consuming renewable energy is booming. Based on the combined heat, power, and heat generation, this paper builds a comprehensive energy system operation optimization model in conjunction with ground source heat pumps. It aims to find the optimal operation strategy based on the actual situation of the park’s load, equipment capacity, and energy prices. Using the linear programming method, a mathematical model with the best economic efficiency of the integrated energy system is established, the optimal operation strategy for a typical day is analyzed, and the annual operation is simulated. Finally, it compares with conventional energy supply methods and analyzes the contribution to the consumption of renewable energy.

Abstract The use of renewable energy improves environmental quality by reducing carbon emission and influence economics growth where carbon emission also effect economic growth of a country. The economic theory of tourism also indicates that tourism development enhance economic growth though spillovers as well contribute to climate change. The inflow of FDI and financial development enhance economic growth however its also effect environmental quality. Based on the ongoing debate, the present research trying attempts to explore the effect of CO2 emission and renewable energy consumption, FDI and financial development on economic growth in different income grouped countries to know whether these impacts are the same for the low income, middle income and high income countries on economic growth? Using panel data for high income, low income & middle income countries for the period of 1980–2018, the current study found that all variables effect economic growth significantly where FDI and carbon emission are positive while renewable energy consumption and financial development are negative for economic growth in the whole sample while its differ in the income groups. These studies have shown that these variables are not the same as the economic growth of economic growth and different income groups are not the same, but it changes. In addition, the foundation of this study has a great deal of recommendations for income Group economic decision make-up.

Recently, the environmental and resource crisis caused by excessive energy consumption has aroused great concern worldwide. China is a major country of energy consumption and carbon emissions, and has attempted to build a carbon emission trading market to reduce carbon emissions. This practice helps to promote the carbon trading projects for both regional carbon emission reduction and sustainable development in the pilot areas, as well as having important theoretical and practical significance for the further improvement of carbon emission trading policies. In this study, we first used the difference-in-difference (DID) model to evaluate the impact of carbon emission trading on the carbon emission intensity of construction land (CEICL). The results showed that the carbon emission trading policy can significantly reduce CEICL in the pilot areas. Furthermore, we adopted the quantile regression model to explore the mechanism and acting path of carbon emission trading on CEICL. The results show that the increase in carbon trading volume (CTV) can effectively reduce the CEICL. However, a high carbon trading price (CTP) tends to reduce the suppressing effect of carbon emission trading on CEICL. Additionally, carbon emission trading also affects CEICL through the indirect acting paths of industrial structure and energy intensity. Finally, we propose to promote regional low-carbon development from the perspective of developing a carbon emission trading market nationwide, rationalizing the carbon quota and trading price mechanism, optimizing the regional industrial structure, and improving the energy consumption structure.

This study explores the impact of clean energy and non-renewable energy consumption on CO2 emissions and economic growth within two phases (formative and expansion) of renewable energy diffusion for three selected countries (France, Spain, and Sweden). The vector autoregression (VAR) model is estimated on the basis of annual data disaggregated into quarterly data. The Granger causality results reveal distinctive differences in the causality patterns across countries and two phases of renewables diffusion. Clean energy consumption contributes to a decline of emissions more clearly in the expansion phase in France and Spain. However, this effect seems to be counteracted by the increases in emissions due to economic growth and non-renewable energy consumption. Therefore, clean energy consumption has not yet led to a decoupling of economic growth from emissions in France and Spain; in contrast, the findings for Sweden evidence such a decoupling due to the neutrality between economic growth and emissions. Generally, the findings show that despite the enormous growth of renewables and active mitigation policies, CO2 emissions have not substantially decreased in selected countries or globally. Focused and coordinated policy action, not only at the EU level but also globally, is urgently needed to overhaul existing fossil-fuel economies into low-carbon economies and ultimately meet the relevant climate targets.
