Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANETs) is a wireless network topology with mobile network nodes and movable communication routes. In addition, the network nodes in MANETs are free to either join or leave the network. Typically, routing in MANETs is multi-hop because of the limited communication range of nodes. Then, routing protocols have been developed for MANETs. Among them, energy-aware location-aided routing (EALAR) is an efficient reactive MANET routing protocol that has been recently obtained by integrating particle swarm optimization (PSO) with mutation operation into the conventional LAR protocol. However, the mutation operation (nonuniform) used in EALAR has some drawbacks, which make EALAR provide insufficient exploration, exploitation, and diversity of solutions. Therefore, this study aims to propose to apply the Optimized PSO (OPSO) via adopting a mutation operation (uniform) instead of nonuniform. The OPSO is integrated into the LAR protocol to enhance all critical performance metrics, including packet delivery ratio, energy consumption, overhead, and end-to-end delay.

MANET is a self-configuring, autonomous and infrastructure less network. MANET has received its popularity by its easy installation and usage at any environment. Sudden change in the network topology may lead to enormous challenges in finding and maintaining the optimal route between source and destination. The nodes in MANET can leave the network at any time which causes route failure leading to consume more energy in finding the alternate route. Routing is one of the top issues in network research domain and it prefers to find and maintain the routes among the nodes. In this paper flexible particle swarm optimization-based routing protocol is proposed to avoid route failure and energy consumption. The proposed protocol is designed to have increased communication between the particles in the swarm and this results in finding the best route towards the destination. This research work utilizes the benchmark performance metrics to measure the performance of proposed protocols against the existing routing protocols. The result shows that the proposed protocol outperforms than the existing routing protocols.

This paper throws understanding into nature inspired meta-heuristic algorithm; Particle Swarm Optimization based technique in designing various energy efficient MANET routing algorithms. Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a framework-less system of self-directed mobile nodes. Owing to the dynamic topological property of MANET, it’s very rigid task to calculate the performance of routing protocol under unpredictable network conditions and the performance of the network will degrade. The performance of Mobile Ad-hoc network is measured by metrics such as packet delivery ratio, battery power and total delay in delivery. Regular variation in topology affect route selection and lifespan of network, hence it is essential to optimize these metrics parameters. There are various protocols developed for routing. These routing paths are established to send data packets through the shortest path without a satisfying multi-objective approach. The purpose of the research is to discuss different approaches of swarm based intelligence routing algorithms used in MANET under dynamic conditions by comparing the measured metrics and to design a novel effective PSO based routing procedure for MANET.

Adaptive Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm with mutation operation based on K-means is proposed in this paper, this algorithm Combined the local searching optimization ability of K-means with the gobal searching optimization ability of Particle Swarm Optimization, the algorithm self-adaptively adjusted inertia weight according to fitness variance of population. Mutation operation was peocessed for the poor performative particle in population. The results showed that the algorithm had solved the poblems of slow convergence speed of traditional Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm and easy falling into the local optimum of K-Means, and more effectively improved clustering quality.

Mobile adhoc network (MANET) comprises a network of mobile nodes, which communicates with one another through wireless connections. Reliability, energy efficiency, congestion control and interferences are the problems faced with the traditional routing protocols in MANET. Routing defines the process of identifying the optimal paths between two nodes in the network. For resolving these issues, several multipath routing techniques have been presented. This paper assesses the performance of the two bio-inspired multipath routing techniques namely Energy-Aware Multipath Routing Scheme based on particle swarm optimization (EMPSO) and PSO with fitness function (PSO-FF) algorithms. These two algorithms are compared and the results are investigated under several performance measures. The simulation results stated that the PSO-FF algorithm has shown better results over the EMPSO algorithm under several measures.
