It is well known that risk factors influence how investment portfolios perform from a lender’s perspective; therefore, a thorough risk assessment of the housing market is vital. The aim of this paper was to analyze the risks from housing apartments in different housing market segments by using the Stockholm, Sweden, owner-occupied apartment market as a case study. By applying quantitative and systems engineering methods, we (1) established the relationship between the overall housing market and several housing market segments, (2) analyzed the results from the quantitative model, and (3) finally provided a feasible portfolio regarding risk control based on the given data. The goal was to determine how different housing segment factors could reveal risk towards the overall market and offer better outlooks for risk management when it comes to housing apartments. The results indicated that the risk could be reduced at the same time as the return increased. From a lender’s perspective, this could reduce the overall risk.

Due to the uncertainty and complexity of the causes in reservoir-induced seismicity, the relationship between the environmental factor and the possible earthquake magnitude can be described by membership function. This study aims to propose a fuzzy method to contribute the membership function in which the normal cloud model is applied. Firstly, the cloud model is introduced in detail. Based on normal cloud model, the one-to-many mapping model is presented to deal with the fuzziness and randomness in the membership function. Finally, the case study in Yangtze Three Gorges Reservoir is presented to illustrate the membership cloud function in fuzzy risk assessment of reservoir-induced seismicity. The obtained results show that the proposed method is the viable approaches in solving the problem when the memberships are vague and imprecise.

Cointegration and Granger causality tests were used for the statistical analyses of the housing market in Lithuania. The relationship between the cost of housing and afford‐ability on the one hand, and interest rates, GDP and average incomes on the other was not proven to exist using the given statistical methods. The period of increase in the cost of housing in Lithuania over the last five years is exceptional and difficult to explain using fundamental economic factors and their fluctuation trends alone. The cost of housing has made a clear departure from the economic (business) cycle; the economy has grown, however at a much slower rate than rising costs in the housing market. The reasons for this situation are record lows in interest rates, good conditions to gain financing, the liberalisation of financial markets, speculative attitudes in expectation of the introduction of the Euro, and a divide between the supply and demand of housing that is available. It should be noted that the evaluation of the influence of these factors on fluctuations in costs in the housing market is more hypothetical in nature. Santrauka Nekilnojamojo turto rinkos Lietuvoje statistinei analizei buvo naudojami kointegravimo ir Grangerio priežastingumo testai. Taikant esamus statistinius metodus nebuvo įrodyta, kad egzistavo ryšys tarp nekilnojamojo turto kainos ir įperkamumo, viena vertus, ir palūkanų normų, BVP bei vidutinių pajamų, kita vertus. Nekilnojamojo turto kainos Lietuvoje didėjimo per pastaruosius penketą metų laikotarpis yra išskirtinis ir sunkiai paaiškinamas remiantis vien pagrindiniais ekonominiais veiksniais ir jų svyravimų tendencijomis. Nekilnojamojo turto kaina aiškiai nukrypo nuo ekonomikos (verslo) ciklo; ekonomika išaugo, tačiau gerokai lėtesniu tempu nei augančios kainos nekilnojamojo turto rinkoje. Šios situacijos priežastys – rekordiškai mažos palūkanų normos, geros sąlygos gauti fi nansavimą, fi nansų rinkos liberalizavimas, spekuliaciniai požiūriai tikintis įsivesti eurą ir takoskyra tarp esamo nekilnojamojo turto pasiūlos ir paklausos. Pažymėtina, kad šių veiksnių įtakos kainų svyravimo nekilnojamojo turto rinkoje įvertinimas yra labiau hipotetinis.

Robot paths are planned according to different industrial tasks. Their kinematic feasibility is restrained by the structure of the given robot manipulator. In order to design feasible paths under kinematic constraints and different task requirements, we propose first to utilize the geometry of the given robot to generate the geometric boundaries of different regions corresponding to kinematic constraints in the robot workspace. Geometric expressions are then derived to describe the relationship about the planned path and the robot workspace. Finally, by applying the developed modification strategies based on different task requirements, feasible paths can be obtained by modifying the infeasible portions of the paths. To demonstrate the proposed feasibility and modification schemes, the PUMA 560 robot manipulator is selected as a case study due to its complexity and practical application. The results are then extended to general wrist-partitioned types of industrial robot manipulators.

Analysis and risk assessment are procedures which help to improve knowledge and are very important in practice. Risk assessment is possible to conduct only on the basis of exact accurate and tested information about the given system, which truly defines the given system within the spatial–temporal context. High standards of maintenance and treatment are closely linked with the requirements for quality and reliability forestry machinery and technological equipment. These standards are closely related to the maintenance of the equipment. This manuscript is focused on the reliability of standard forest machines used in the Slovak forestry. They are relatively modern and useful in the process of transporting and handling trees. This research showed the possibility of decreasing the production costs related to the maintenance of the devices and how to increase the final profit. The results of the research showed that the analysis of reliability is significant regarding to the quality of performed maintenance and the costs paid for it.

The purpose of this paper is to highlight the importance of involving the extended community in risk assessment of the applied sciences. To do this, the paper will be discussing the history of the first oral conceptive in America. Specifically, it discusses the Nelson Pill Hearings which was a very publicized trial intended to evaluate the safety of the oral contraceptive Enovid. The conclusion of this case study is that failing to involve the extended community (mainly, women taking the pill) resulted in a large distrust of authority. This distrust in the scientific community leads to their opinions being largely ignored and damaged the relationship between women and their doctors at the risk of women’s health. It was not until post-normal science ideals were implemented, that more women felt they could trust the safety of the product they were using. Failing to recognize the importance of involving the extended community in scientific breakthroughs created a barrier for the extended community to benefit from said scientific breakthroughs.

This study aims to reveal the relationship between the social structure and urban pattern in a specified urban area by means of the socio-spatial dialectic. To understand the circumstances behind this dichotomy, analyses were conducted on two intertwined subjects - social structure and morphology - as part of a case study of the historical core of the Kad?k?y district in Istanbul, Turkey. Based on the findings, some inferences, depending on the predefined social and morphological components, are made about changing socio-spatialities in the given place by means of time-spacesociety relations. The results show that each socio-cultural group brought their own culture and adapted their physical environment according to their basic needs, and that culture has a restrictive and explanatory effect on the formation of space. In addition, population growth and the adaptive capacity of society to external forces demanding change in the urban space also turn out to unavoidably affect the development scheme of the morphological character of the area.

<p>In this paper, DeLone and McLean’s updated information system model was used to evaluate the success of an e-Learning system and its courses in a transitional country like Serbia. In order to adapt this model to an e-Learning system, suitable success metrics were chosen for each of the evaluation stages. Furthermore, the success metrics for e-Learning evaluation are expanded by providing several systems for quantifying the given success metrics. The results presented in this paper are based on courses that were taught both online and traditionally in three different subject areas: graphic design, information technology, and management. Of particular interest were success metrics which can be determined using quantifiable data from the e-Learning system itself, in order to evaluate and find the relationship between students’ academic achievement, usage of learning materials, and students’ satisfaction. The results from different courses were used to illustrate the implementation and evaluation of these success metrics for both online and traditional students.</p>

Security management is an important part of the overall management of an organization. It aims to protect the health and life of persons, organization property and the environment itself. Achieving this goal, which represents achieving the required level of both security and safety, is undoubtedly dependent on the activities performed by security and safety managers. One of the basic processes affecting the security and safety level in the given organization is a risk assessment process. Based on the results of this process, particular measures are implemented to either avert or reduce the security and safety risks. The KARS method presented in this article is one of the methods applicable to the risk assessment process. The added value over other methods used in practice is that the assessment takes into account the correlation of the assessed risks. The case study presents the application of the KARS for evaluating risks magnitude within a real reference object.
