This paper is devoted to solving boundary value problems for differential equations with fractional derivatives by the Fourier method. The necessary information is given (in particular, theorems on the completeness of the eigenfunctions and associated functions, multiplicity of eigenvalues, and questions of the localization of root functions and eigenvalues are discussed) from the spectral theory of non-self-adjoint operators generated by differential equations with fractional derivatives and boundary conditions of the Sturm–Liouville type, obtained by the author during implementation of the method of separation of variables (Fourier). Solutions of boundary value problems for a fractional diffusion equation and wave equation with a fractional derivative are presented with respect to a spatial variable.

The present paper is devoted to the spectral analysis of operators induced by fractional differential equations and boundary conditions of Sturm-Liouville type. It should be noted that these operators are non-self-adjoint. The spectral structure of such operators has been insufficiently explored. In particular, a study of the completeness of systems of eigenfunctions and associated functions has begun relatively recently. In this paper, the completeness of the system of eigenfunctions and associated functions of one class of non-self-adjoint integral operators corresponding boundary value problems for fractional differential equations is established. The proof is based on the well-known Theorem of M.S. Livshits on the spectral decomposition of linear non-self-adjoint operators, as well as on the sectoriality of the fractional differentiation operator. The results of Dzhrbashian-Nersesian on the asymptotics of the zeros of the Mittag-Leffler function are used.

Abstract A procedure is described for extending the method of separation of variables to the solution of beam-vibration problems with time-dependent boundary conditions. The procedure is applicable to a wide variety of time-dependent boundary-value problems in systems governed by linear partial differential equations.

AbstractIn this article, we consider the existence of solutions to the Sturm–Liouville differential equation with random impulses and boundary value problems. We first study the Green function of the Sturm–Liouville differential equation with random impulses. Then, we get the equivalent integral equation of the random impulsive differential equation. Based on this integral equation, we use Dhage’s fixed point theorem to prove the existence of solutions to the equation, and the theorem is extended to the general second order nonlinear random impulsive differential equations. Then we use the upper and lower solution method to give a monotonic iterative sequence of the generalized random impulsive Sturm–Liouville differential equations and prove that it is convergent. Finally, we give two concrete examples to verify the correctness of the results.

In this paper, we study the multi-point boundary value problems for a new kind of piecewise differential equations with left and right fractional derivatives and delay. In this system, the state variables satisfy the different equations in different time intervals, and they interact with each other through positive and negative delay. Some new results on the existence, no-existence and multiplicity for the positive solutions of the boundary value problems are obtained by using Guo–Krasnoselskii’s fixed point theorem and Leggett–Williams fixed point theorem. The results for existence highlight the influence of perturbation parameters. Finally, an example is given out to illustrate our main results.
