The railway is one of the most prominent models of transportation across the globe and it carries a large number of people, thus requiring high reliability, maintainability and safety. The reliability of railways mostly depends on an effective signalling system, making it one of the critical parts of railway operation. A signalling system is part of a large array of systems with interconnected components and subcomponents. Therefore, there is a need to make the signalling system more reliable and optimised with enhanced fault detection. Proper inspection and maintenance are required to make the signalling system reliable and safe. In this study, different inspection modelling techniques are applied to find the reliability of the signalling system. The signalling system has been divided into subsystems (signal unit, track unit, point-and-point machine) considering their importance and their effects on the failure rate of the entire signalling system. Inspection modelling of each subsystem has been conducted to provide the basis for the entire signalling system. A case study has been investigated to validate the model developed in one of the busiest tracks in eastern India. The obtained data thus are used to analyse the inspection pattern of signalling subsystems. Special attention to maintenance for inspection activities and logistics support has been taken into consideration, which is required to improve the reliability and maintainability of signalling subsystems and systems to make the railway signalling system sustainable in the long run.

A framework is presented to evaluate the safety and availability of the railway operation, and quantifying the probability of the signalling system not to supervise the railway traffic. Since a failure of the signalling systems still allows operation of the railway, it is not sufficient to study their effect on the railway operation by considering only the failures and delays. The safety and availability are evaluated, handling both repairs and replacements by using a Markov model. The model is verified with a case study of Swedish railway signalling systems with different scenarios. The results show that the probability of being in a state where operation is possible in a degraded mode is greater than the probability of not being operative at all, which reduces delays but requires other risk mitigation measures to ensure safe operation. The effects that different improvements can have on the safety and availability of the railway operation are simulated. The results show that combining maintenance improvements to reduce the failure rate and increase the repair rate is more efficient at increasing the probability of being in an operative state and reducing the probability of operating in a degraded state.

Feed-In Tariff (FiT) was introduced in Malaysia in 2004 and has been undergone many stages to make its implementation in Malaysia successful. The first Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) introduced in Malaysia is Suria 1000 under the supervision of Pusat Tenaga Malaysia (PTM). The aim of this paper was to study the FiT and BIPV implementation in Malaysia. It is observed that Malaysian did not invest in BIPV due to its expensive investment. The FiT Calculator was developed to prove the benefits of FiT in BIPV by practically calculating the investment and profit in the long run which was after 21 years of implementation.  FiT Calculator was developed using Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 and variable parameter such as the solar irradiation, types of solar panel and inverter were studied to obtain the estimation of power output, the annual income, net income and the payback period of BIPV. Results of all case studies were verified with MBIPV mileage report and the built FiT Calculator has shown up to 96.89% accuracy against the case study done.

This paper demonstrates the contribution that historical property records can make to our understanding of long run urban change. We use a case study of two streets from the suburb of Carlton in Melbourne, Australia between 1870 and 1970. The property records form a panel database that can be interrogated using standard modelling techniques. These data are used to analyse change in the built environment over time, and identify the factors that may be influencing such change. With the assembled data we track built form, land value, ownership and land use over 100 years. We find that stability characterises the built environment over lengthy periods, but when change occurs it does so in bursts, rather than incrementally. Furthermore, these bursts of change are unevenly spread across our two case study streets, despite their proximity. The streetscape’s primary built material is the key factor shaping geographical patterns of land use change in the case study area.

Introduction: In order to have a good assessment of the quality of maternal and child health care, it is essential that there is up-to-date and reliable information. Objective: To evaluate the impact of the implementation of a computerized database of clinical processes in the admission, archive and medical statistics section, of Maternity hospital Irene Neto/Lubango-Angola. Methodology: A descriptive study with a quantitative and qualitative approach to carry out a retrospective case study deliveries and newborns, records from 2014 to 2017. Final considerations: The implementation of this project may contribute to the improvement of clinical management support management of the hospital as well as facilitating access to information for research and scientific production.
