In the search for new quinoid compounds endowed with potential anticancer activity, the synthesis of novel heterodimers containing the cytotoxic 7-phenylaminoisoquinolinequinone and 2-phenylaminonaphthoquinone pharmacophores, connected through methylene and ethylene spacers, is reported. The heterodimers were prepared from their respective isoquinoline and naphthoquinones and 4,4′-diaminodiphenyl alkenes. The access to the target heterodimers and their corresponding monomers was performed both through oxidative amination reactions assisted by ultrasound and CeCl3·7H2O catalysis “in water”. This eco-friendly procedure was successfully extended to the one-pot synthesis of homodimers derived from the 7-phenylaminoisoquinolinequinone pharmacophore. The electrochemical properties of the monomers and dimers were determined by cyclic and square wave voltammetry. The number of electrons transferred during the oxidation process, associated to the redox potential EI1/2, was determined by controlled potential coulometry.

The present paper developed a new enzymatic biosensor whose support is a screen-printed electrode based on carbon nanofibers modified with cobalt phthalocyanine and laccase (CNF-CoPc-Lac/SPE) to determine the p-coumaric acid (PCA) content by cyclic voltammetry and square wave voltammetry. Sensor modification was achieved by the casting and cross-linking technique, using glutaraldehyde as a reticulation agent. The biosensor’s response showed the PCA redox processes in a very stable and sensitive manner. The calibration curve was developed for the concentration range of p-coumaric acid of 0.1–202.5 μM, using cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. The biosensor yielded optimal results for the linearity range 0.4–6.4 μM and stood out by low LOD and LOQ values, i.e., 4.83 × 10−7 M and 1.61 × 10−6 M, respectively. PCA was successfully determined in three phytoproducts of complex composition. The results obtained by the voltammetric method were compared to the ones obtained by the FTIR method. The amount of p-coumaric acid determined by means of CNF-CoPc-Lac/SPE was close to the one obtained by the standard spectrometric method.

Background: The multi component reaction (MCRs) is a method extensively used in organic chemistry as a tool in the synthesis of nitrogen containing heterocycles found in many natural products, medicinally relevant substances and organic materials. Objective: This paper describes the synthesis of a diverse range of 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine-2-carbonitriles of considerable chemical and biological interests. Conclusion: Various 3-amino-5,10-dioxo-1-phenyl-5,10-dihydro-1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine-2-carbo -nitriles were synthesized via the one-pot three component reaction of phthalhydrazides, aromatic aldehydes and malononitrile in the presence of the proline as an organocatalyst in ethanol at refluxing temperature under the green conditions in excellent yields.

The bis(octacyanophthalocyaninato)neodymium(III) was synthesized and its electrochemical behavior in N,N-dimethylformamide ( DMF ) was investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV). Multiple redox reactions were observed on the cyclic voltammogram, although the voltammetric feature was complicated due to aggregation. With the aid of SWV, it was concluded that the redox potentials of the complex positively shifted by about 700 mV compared with potentials of the unsubstituted complex, which was ascribed to the strong electron-withdrawn effect of the substituted cyano group.
