A new extension for the ‘one pot’ construction of diverse 1-azafluorene derivatives featuring a Diels–Alder/retro-Diels–Alder cycloaddition is reported. Conditions were also determined for oxidation to the derived azafluorenones. The spectrophotometric analysis of five different azafluorenones were performed. Moderate fluorescence was observed with azafluorenone derivatives that bear an imbedded pyridone motif; whereas those bearing substituted pyridines do not fluoresce.

In the search for new quinoid compounds endowed with potential anticancer activity, the synthesis of novel heterodimers containing the cytotoxic 7-phenylaminoisoquinolinequinone and 2-phenylaminonaphthoquinone pharmacophores, connected through methylene and ethylene spacers, is reported. The heterodimers were prepared from their respective isoquinoline and naphthoquinones and 4,4′-diaminodiphenyl alkenes. The access to the target heterodimers and their corresponding monomers was performed both through oxidative amination reactions assisted by ultrasound and CeCl3·7H2O catalysis “in water”. This eco-friendly procedure was successfully extended to the one-pot synthesis of homodimers derived from the 7-phenylaminoisoquinolinequinone pharmacophore. The electrochemical properties of the monomers and dimers were determined by cyclic and square wave voltammetry. The number of electrons transferred during the oxidation process, associated to the redox potential EI1/2, was determined by controlled potential coulometry.

Background: The multi component reaction (MCRs) is a method extensively used in organic chemistry as a tool in the synthesis of nitrogen containing heterocycles found in many natural products, medicinally relevant substances and organic materials. Objective: This paper describes the synthesis of a diverse range of 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine-2-carbonitriles of considerable chemical and biological interests. Conclusion: Various 3-amino-5,10-dioxo-1-phenyl-5,10-dihydro-1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine-2-carbo -nitriles were synthesized via the one-pot three component reaction of phthalhydrazides, aromatic aldehydes and malononitrile in the presence of the proline as an organocatalyst in ethanol at refluxing temperature under the green conditions in excellent yields.

4-arylmethylidene-3-methylisoxazol-5(4H)-ones and 4-arylmethyl-idene-3-phenylisoxazol-5(4H)-ones have been synthesized in the one-pot three-component synthesis in the presence of Dowex1-x8OH as catalyst in water. The products have been obtained in high yields (90-95%) and proper reaction times (1-5 hours). This method has eco-friendly profile and operational simplicity.
