This work presents a use case of building a data visualization interface for open-access repositories. The case in the analysis is the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD). From the almost 670,000 records of BDTD, one applies statistical methods using the language R. One of the visualization packages of R is called Shiny, which makes it easy to build interactive web applications straight from R. Through the app, a user can visualize data in a fast and customizable way. It could help to keep track of metadata and usage statistics over the repositories and also can be applied to discovering scientific information, such as bibliographic data and lists of specialists in a certain research domain. These data visualization tools can stimulate others to create open repositories and join either national, regional or international repositories networks.

This paper describes a project led by the Instituto Brasileiro de Informações em Ciência e Tecnologia (Ibict), a government institution, to build a national digital library for electronic theses and dissertations - Bibliteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações (BDTD). The project has been a collaborative effort among Ibict, universities and other research centers in Brazil. The developers adopted a system architecture based on the Open Archives Initiative (OAI) in which universities and research centers act as data providers and Ibict as a service provider. A Brazilian metadata standard for electronic theses and dissertations was developed for the digital library. A toolkit including open source package was also developed by Ibict to be distributed to potential data providers. BDTD has been integrated with the international initiative: the Networked Digital Library of Thesis and Dissertation (NDLTD). Discussions in the paper address various issues related to project design, development and management as well as the role played by Ibict. Conclusions highlight some important lessons learned to date and challenges for the future in expanding the BDTD project.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo realizar um levantamento de pesquisas e de políticas que envolvem a leitura no sistema penitenciário nacional, mapeando dissertações e teses de programas de pós-graduação, que tiveram como tema projetos de leitura no cárcere nos últimos dez anos. Para isso, realizamos uma pesquisa no banco de dissertações e teses do Portal da Capes e na Biblioteca Digital Brasileira de Teses e Dissertações. A partir do levantamento de dados, identificamos que trabalhos que envolvem a educação no sistema prisional ainda são poucos, principalmente, relacionados a práticas de leitura. Essa situação pode ser agravada, sobretudo, pela pseudoefetivação de políticas que regem esses contextos.Palavras-chave: Leitura. Sistema Prisional. There has been a growing number of nutrition data visualization tools (DVTs) to monitor progress towards targets and encourage action. However, there are few documented examples of how to go about designing effective DVTs for nutrition-related audiences. In this Open Letter, we summarize reflections from collaborative efforts between the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and the Data for Decisions to Expand Nutrition Transformation project (DataDENT) in 2019-2021 to design a sub-national nutrition scorecard that aims to hold Nigeria’s 36 Governors accountable to nutrition commitments. Our reflections add to an emerging body of work advocating for DVT design processes to develop a specific theory of change for how the DVT will influence target groups and achieve aims. Once the target audience is identified, it is important to create a strong engagement strategy to ensure that the DVT promotes constructive action. We also highlight the importance of identifying actionable indicators through participatory processes. We hope that these insights about collaborative DVT design can be applied by countries and institutions who want to develop similar tools to advance the nutrition agenda in their context.

O presente artigo objetiva esboçar algumas considerações epistemológicas acerca das questões de gênero no contexto da produção científica da Educação Profissional. Para tanto, inicialmente, serão feitas algumas provocações ao campo epistêmico em questão a partir de contribuições das teóricas feministas. Em seguida, será mapeada e descrita a quantidade dos trabalhos de pós-graduação disponíveis na Biblioteca Digital Brasileira de Teses e Dissertações cujos objetos tangenciam o assunto, no período de 2008 a 2019. Posteriormente, será explicitado o recurso ao estado do conhecimento como procedimento metodológico para coleta de dados, seguindo-se a apresentação dos resultados. Estes revelaram a existência de apenas treze manuscritos centrados sobre a temática, indicando a escassez de estudos. Face a essa constatação, serão tecidas algumas apreciações finais com vistas a proporcionar à Educação Profissional ferramentas capazes de contribuir para a expansão epistemológica da área e para a continuidade da efetivação de sua proposta político-pedagógica de formação humana integral.Palavras-chave: Gênero. Feminismo.DOING GENDER IN PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION: epistemological notes from the state of knowledge on professional education and gender in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (2008-2019)AbstractThis article aims to outline some epistemological considerations about gender issues in the context of the scientific production of Professional Education. To this end, initially, some provocations will be made to the epistemic field in question based on contributions from feminist theorists. Next, it will be mapped and described the amount of master’s and doctoral degree works availables in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations whose objects tangentiate the subject, in the period from 2008 to 2019. Subsequently, the use of the state of knowledge as a methodological procedure for data collection will be explained, followed by the presentation of the results. These revealed the existence of only thirteen manuscripts centered on the theme, indicating the scarcity of studies. In view of this finding, some final considerations will be made in order to provide Professional Education with tools capable of contributing to the epistemological expansion of the area and to the continuity of the effectiveness of its political-pedagogical proposal of integral human formation.Keywords: Gender.
