To resolve the problem of miscellaneous peaks and improve the accuracy of data processing in micro-ring resonators (MRRs), we propose an optical transmission model based on a Fabry–Perot (F-P) resonance effect in a Si3N4 add-drop MRR-waveguide structure, which is analyzed using a coupled mode theory and stationary interference method. The analysis indicates the experimentally obtained miscellaneous peaks are mainly induced by the multiple reflections between the two end grating couplers, which form a F-P cavity. In addition, an anti-reflection film on the interface of the grating couplers is proposed to reduce the F-P resonance effect. This work could be useful to analyze optical transmission properties of other MRR-based structures.

Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) exhibits natural hyperbolic dispersion in the infrared (IR) wavelength spectrum. In particular, the hybridization of its hyperbolic phonon polaritons (HPPs) and surface plasmon resonances (SPRs) induced by metallic nanostructures is expected to serve as a new platform for novel light manipulation. In this study, the transmission properties of embedded hBN in metallic one-dimensional (1D) nanoslits were theoretically investigated using a rigorous coupled wave analysis method. Extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) was observed in the type-II Reststrahlen band, which was attributed to the hybridization of HPPs in hBN and SPRs in 1D nanoslits. The calculated electric field distributions indicated that the unique Fabry–Pérot-like resonance was induced by the hybridization of HPPs and SPRs in an embedded hBN cavity. The trajectory of the confined light was a zigzag owing to the hyperbolicity of hBN, and its resonance number depended primarily on the aspect ratio of the 1D nanoslit. Such an EOT is also independent of the slit width and incident angle of light. These findings can not only assist in the development of improved strategies for the extreme confinement of IR light but may also be applied to ultrathin optical filters, advanced photodetectors, and optical devices.

We designed High-Q micro-ring resonators based on SOI material. A new method of using a top SiO2 layer to cover the waveguide is applied and the tested Q factor is as high as 1.0135×104. Micro-ring resonator has been fabricated using Electron-Beam Lithography and Inductive Coupled Plasma. OptiFDTD was used to simulate the micro-ring resonator and we compared the transmission spectrum of this resonator with the resonator without SiO2 covering.

<p>Photonic ring waveguide resonators have great potential applications in wavelength filtering, switching, modulation and multiplexing.  The response of coupled ring resonators can be designed by using various coupling configurations. Particularly, ring resonators can be used as wavelength filter when the wavelength fits a whole multiple times in the circumference of the ring.  In this paper, we investigate the effect of input amplitude to power amplification in four ring resonator configurations and vary the input amplitude on five different wavelengths.  With OptiFDTD Photonics Simulation Software V8.0, the results show the intensity phenomenon of filtering in optical circuit.</p><p> </p>
