Searching for economical and practical solutions to increase any transport substructure’s protection and stability is critical for ensuring the long-term viability and adequate load-bearing capacity. Piles are increasingly being used as an economical and environmentally sustainable solution to enhance the strength of soft subgrade soils on which embankments are raised. As per the available literature, there are two main strategies used to explain railway embankments’ performance: experimental approaches and numerical simulations on a broad scale. The purpose of this study is to examine the state-of-the-art literature on numerical modeling methods adopted to assess the performance of pile-supported rail embankments subjected to cyclic loading. The paper addresses the main results from various numerical methods to explain the appropriate mechanisms associated with the load deformation response. It also presents the key issues and drawbacks of these numerical methods concerning rail embankment development while outlining the specific shortcomings and research gaps relevant to enhanced future design and analysis.

The paper presents some theoretical and practical issues, particularly useful to users of numerical methods, especially finite element method for the behaviour modelling of the foam materials. Given the characteristics of specific behaviour of the foam materials, the requirement which has to be taken into consideration is the compression, inclusive impact with bodies more rigid then a foam material, when this is used alone or in combination with other materials in the form of composite laminated with various boundary conditions. The results and conclusions presented in this paper are the results of our investigations in the field and relates to the use of LS-Dyna program, but many observations, findings and conclusions, have a general character, valid for use of any numerical analysis by FEM programs.

In contrast to methods that do not take into account multiconnectivity in a broad sense of this term, we develop mathematical models and highly effective combination (BIEM and FDM) numerical methods of calculation of stationary and quasi‐stationary temperature field of a profile part of a blade with convective cooling (from the point of view of realization on PC). The theoretical substantiation of these methods is proved by appropriate theorems. For it, converging quadrature processes have been developed and the estimations of errors in the terms of A. Ziqmound continuity modules have been received.

Abstract ‘Histories of Design Pedagogy’ gathers material from across three decades of the Journal of Design History to juxtapose distinct investigations into design education across various geographies, contexts, relationships and methodological concerns. By isolating three overarching themes to structure twelve articles, this introduction also makes an argument towards future design pedagogy, suggesting an Urmodell, or master plan, of elements in design pedagogy that is informed by key issues debated by and through the articles presented. ‘Design Systems and Projects’ addresses the meaning and concept of design, relationships between education and industry, and design training networks. ‘Ethics and Methods’ advocates greater attention to the identities, subjectivities and roles of the designer and of the user as stakeholders in a designed system, the increasing role of research in design practice, elements that affect practice from global design to emerging technologies, and object collections research. The final theme, ‘Critical Histories and Theories’, looks to changes in design history and design studies to inform interdisciplinary scholarship and the future of design practice. Tensions over proportions, boundaries and structures are addressed by this Urmodell, but in the preferred definition of modelling as a mediator, it exists here as a malleable framework over a steadfast solution.

According to the geological conditions and operating regimes of Wang river groundwater reservoir of Laizhou in Shandong, through doing sandy one-dimensional equal amplitude circulating compression test, the effect of groundwater level repeated rising or falling on volumes of groundwater reservoir is simulated, the character of porosity changing regulation with circulating period is analyzed, the relation between reduction rate of porosity and circulating period is summarized, and the hyperbolic model of reduction rate of porosity and circulating period is constructed initially, the concept of limiting reduction rate of porosity is proposed, the physical meaning of limiting reduction rate of porosity is analyzed, modifying volumes of groundwater reservoir by limiting reduction rate of porosity is used to reflect the effect of groundwater level repeated lifting on the capacity of groundwater reservoir.
