The development of urban rail transit is of great significance to the sustainable development of cities. However, the formulation of public norms of the urban rail transit train operation scheme lacks the corresponding theoretical support, rationality and scientificity. Therefore, based on the research on passenger flow conditions, this paper establishes an optimization model of express train operation and uses a heuristic genetic algorithm to solve it. In addition, this paper takes the Beijing Changping Line as an example to conduct empirical research. Results show that the optimization model established reduces the operation cost of operating enterprises, improves the capacity of urban rail transit, reduces travel time and maintains the full load rate of trains at a more comfortable level. This will improve the attractiveness of urban rail transit and promote benign interaction between operators and passengers. It will also provide a theoretical basis for formulating public norms of transit train operation, make it more scientific and reasonable and promote the development of urban rail transit.

Urban rail transit fare strategies include fare structures and fare levels. We propose a rail transit line fare decision based on an operating plan that falls under elastic demand. Combined with the train operation plan, considering flat fare and distance-based fare, and based on the benefit analysis of both passenger flow and operating enterprises, we construct the objective functions and build an optimization model in terms of the operators’ interests, the system’s efficiency, system regulation goals, and the system costs. The solving algorithm based on the simulated annealing algorithm is established. Using as an example the Changsha Metro Line 2, we analyzed the optimized results of different models under the two fare structures system. Finally the recommendations of fare strategies are given.

This paper presents a method for synergizing the energy-saving strategies of integrated coasting and regenerative braking in urban rail transit operations. Coasting saves energy by maintaining motion with propulsion disabled, but it induces longer travel time. Regenerative braking captures and reuses the braking energy of the train and could shorten travel time but reduces the time available for coasting, indicating a tradeoff between the two strategies. A simulation model was developed based on fundamental kinematic equations for assessing sustainable train operation with Wayside Energy-Saving Systems (WESSs). The objective of this study is to optimize speed profiles that minimize energy consumption, considering the train schedule and specifications, track alignment, speed limit, and the WESS parameters such as storage limit and energy losses in the transmission lines. The decision variables are the acceleration at each time step of the respective motion regimes. Since the study optimization problem is combinatorial, a Genetic Algorithm was developed to search for the solution. A case study was conducted which examined various scenarios with and without WESS on a segment of an urban rail transit line to test the applicability of the proposed model and to provide a platform for the application of ideas developed in this study. It was determined that synergizing the energy-saving strategies of coasting and regenerative braking yielded the greatest efficiency of the scenarios examined.

Network-wide maintenance lacks strong theoretical support and practical cases. However, research on this topic has entered an extensive exploratory stage; for example, new network design methods are being sought, and successful practices from traditional maintenance by line and by profession are being incorporated. This paper proposes a novel set-covering model with the variable coverage radius for the maintenance network of urban rail transit systems in the context of network-wide maintenance. The concepts of network-wide maintenance follow principles that are similar to those of bio-geography-based optimization (BBO), i.e., patterns of migration, variation, and extinction of different populations in different habitats. Therefore, a BBO algorithm is implemented with combinatorial optimization programming. Experiments from Changchun city in China show that the proposed model and algorithm are effective in fulfilling network-wide requirements through a direct tradeoff between the coverage radius and maintenance response time. In addition, the maintenance capacity and variable coverage radius of each maintenance point influence both the maintenance timeliness and resource utilization of maintenance units.

Train operation regulation is the key technology to ensure the orderly operation of trains, its value has been fully realized under the background of rapid construction and high traffic density in urban rail transit. This paper did a deep analysis on different strategies and methods for urban rail transit train operation regulation and the applications of these strategies and methods in different conditions. Furthermore, an automatic train operation regulation mathematical model was established. Then developed a software system in Visual C++ and used it to analysis and test the model by data of a real metro line, the result showed that both the model and the system were available.

Nowadays, most communication based train control systems (CBTC) use Wireless Local Networks (WLAN) technology for information transmission. However, because of the high running speed of the train in urban rail transit, WLAN technology cannot fully satisfy the information transmission under the condition of train operation at a high speed. Long term evolution (LTE) technology has a high transmission speed, which can better meet the real-time requirements of train and ground information transmission. Therefore, LTE technology has become an emphasis on the research of communication technology in today’s urban rail transit. Although there is a lot of research on the application of LTE technology in urban rail transit, there is little research on the reliability of LTE based train ground communication systems using experimental data. In this paper, the reliability of train ground communication is firstly defined. Then the train ground communication environment was established in the laboratory, and the performance parameters of train ground communication based on LTE technology were obtained in the test. Finally, the reliability is calculated and analyzed according to the experimental results, and a storage method of train data in actual operation is proposed, which can be used to analyze the reliability of train information transmission. The results show that the reliability of train ground communication based on LTE technology meets CBTC requirements.
