Different biological groups show biased responses to similar or different environmental stressors on different scales. The selection of bioindicators based on pressure characteristics is the basis for accurately assessing ecological quality. In this study, we investigated the responses of common bioindicators, namely, macroinvertebrates and fish, to multiple stressors in temperate mountain and plain streams of northeast China. We used 56 indices, including the single biological evaluation index and biological evaluation index system, to analyze and compare characteristic response to different scales under varying environmental stressors. The principal component analysis (PCA) showed that PCA axis 1 in the catchment scale explained 83.6% and 96.1% of the variance in mountain and plain rivers, respectively, which characterized the comprehensive pressure gradient integrated by land-use development and water pollution. PCA axis 1 explained 40.7% and 53.9% of variance in mountain and plain rivers on the reach scale and 63.1% and 61.8% of variance on the site scale. The correlation analysis showed responses of different indices to abiotic variables which did not overlap. Macroinvertebrate and fish indices successfully explained the change in water chemistry on a small scale, whereas fish indices additionally explained the change in land use on a large scale. Macroinvertebrate and fish indices were recommended because of their rich responses to environmental stressors, particularly in plain rivers. For mountain stream biomonitoring programs, especially in the Taizi River of northeastern China, we suggest that macroinvertebrates and fish should be used separately or jointly according to the actual capacity and cost, Moreover, compared with the possible differences in the evaluation results of different single biological evaluation indexes, the biological evaluation index system shows more stable monitoring results, and the single sensitivity index is more significant in biological evaluation, and more sensitive to some special environmental factors.

Free trade zones represent an important system innovation space to realize economic agglomeration advantages with high-level openings. However, its evaluation of land intensive use has not received enough attention. The goal of this paper is to build a land use performance evaluation index system in line with the development trend of industrial economy and the characteristics of mixed land use in the free trade zones. An evaluation index system is constructed based on the three factors of land use status, land use efficiency and pilot free trade zone influence. Using the Delphi method and the entropy method, an empirical evaluation of the intensive land use level in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone is conducted. The results show the following: (1) integrating new indicators such as the free trade zone influence, social and ecological benefits into the evaluation index system show a characteristic and innovative land use evaluation; (2) in terms of the level of intensive land use, the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone has the highest intensity, followed by the Yangshan Free Trade Port Zone, and the Pudong Airport Comprehensive Free Trade Zone has the lowest intensity; and (3) development time, degree of land use, differences in leading functions, industrial land structures, and the diversification of employment structures are important factors that influence the differences in the levels of intensive land use in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone. This study also expands the performance evaluation of industrial land to the performance evaluation of construction land and provides references for industrial transformation and urban renewal of the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone.

To establish the evaluation index system on relationship between urban mass rail transit and its surrounding land use based on transit oriented development (TOD) mode, the suitable methods and principles of evaluation index system were analyzed. An evaluation procedure frame was proposed based on data envelopment analysis (DEA) model. Then the evaluation indexes from urban mass rail transit system and land use system selected based on interactive relations between urban mass rail transit and land use under TOD mode.

Rurality highlights the intrinsic differences between urban and rural communities. The comprehensive rurality evaluation index system is difficult to obtain indicators that reflect purely rural or urban characteristics; in addition, most of the data used in the evaluation index system come from statistical data, and the authenticity of the data cannot be guaranteed. Taking 25 towns in Lixia County and Shanghe County in Jinan city as the study area and using land use data and economic statistics data, the rurality evaluation system based on the land use transformation was constructed, the changes of the rurality index and intensity from 2009 to 2015 were calculated, and the driving factors of the rurality were analyzed. The results showed that, from 2009 to 2015, the rurality difference among towns in Lixia County decreased, the rurality difference among towns in Shanghe County increased, the rurality intensity of Lixia County was lower than that of Shanghe County, and the rurality index gap between the two counties was increasing. In 2009, the rurality grade of Lixia County was dominated by weak intensity (84.62%), and the rurality of the county changed greatly in 2015, with a large proportion (76.92%) still being weak intensity. In 2009, the proportion of relatively strong intensity was dominated (33.33%) in Shanghe County; in 2015, weak intensity accounted for a large proportion (41.67%). Changes of rurality intensity in Lixia County and Shanghe County were different. There was a significant correlation between the rurality index and geographical elevation, GDP, and the distance from the center of the town government, the road construction level, the urbanization level, and the education level. This paper can provide an empirical reference for rurality index research.

Effectiveness evaluations are one of the important ways to guide grid investment and to improve investment efficiency. Improving the effectiveness of grid investment evaluations is studied based on the optimization of the investment evaluation index system and the utility evaluation model. The index system is optimized by establishing an evaluation index system of grid investment effectiveness, considering the redundancy between the indices, and constructing an ISM-DEA model. The utility function model was introduced to fully consider the different risk appetites of decision-makers, and a utility evaluation model that takes risk appetite into account was established. An improved weight integration model based on multiobjective optimization was established by considering the minimum deviation and the trend-optimal objective function when setting the index weights. The calculation results show that the feasibility of the index system optimization model and utility evaluation model constructed in this study is verified under the premise of satisfying the assumptions. By adjusting the risk preference coefficient of decision-makers, the dynamic optimization of the grid investment utility evaluation results can be realized.
