This paper offers a framing analysis approach as one of the alternatives that can be tried to reveal linguistic symptoms, especially discourse in the mass media. Framing analysis does not only see language in terms of its structure, but also from other dimensions. To be able to apply the framing analysis in the discourse study, knowledge and understanding of the theory and essential factors of framing analysis is needed. the function of mass media and the theory of hegemony. In addition, also need to know the characteristics of framing analysis, such as (1) facts, reality is actually the result of social construction, (2) mass media is a social construction agent in defining reality, (3) news is not a reflection of reality (language relativeity) , (4) news is not an objective fact, (5) journalists are actually not news reporters, but construction agents who have alignments, and (6) readers have their own interpretations of the news presented. The aspects that need to be considered are the schmatic, script, thematic, and rhetorical aspects and writing strategies.

The phrase, ‘Coalition of the Willing’, emerged in East Africa in 2013, when three East African Community (EAC) members (Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda) forged a Tripartite Initiative to fast-track the EAC regional integration, sidelining Tanzania and Burundi, for their apparent ‘aloofness’ to integration. This coalition created tensions among the five countries, exacerbating an already simmering conflict between Tanzania and Rwanda involving the expulsion of ‘illegal’ Rwandan migrants from Tanzania. Informed by contemporary political communication and media framing, this article examines how these events were framed in five leading newspapers in East Africa: the Daily Nation (Kenya), the Daily Monitor (Uganda), The Citizen (Tanzania), The New Times (Rwanda) and The East African (EAC region). Through a thematic frame analysis, we interrogate the prevalence and implications of five prominent themes found in most political conflicts (attributions of responsibility, conflict, human interest, economic consequences and morality) on the ‘Coalition of the Willing’ media debate. The analysis reveals conflicting frames with a potential to inflame antagonistic media debates to the integration efforts ‐ by the resultant blame-game and opening up of historical wounds and personal differences, among the key players.

Handling the Covid-19 virus outbreak in Indonesia since its emergence in March 2020 requires targeted policies both at the national and regional levels. The spread and handlers of the Covid-19 virus are a concern because the number is increasing dramatically. Jakarta as the capital of the country becomes a parameter for other regions in the handling of Covid-19. The outbreak of global pandemic status certainly attracted the attention of the mass media, including online media. With the ability to construct reality, online media has the power to process facts and data in such a way, in accordance with its interests. Researchers will analyze the news with framing analysis to find out the construction of Kompas.com in the news of COVID-19 in DKI Jakarta. This study aims to analyze how framing Kompas.com news about COVID-19 in DKI Jakarta. The research method used is qualitative with framing analysis of Pan and Kosicki models. The results of the study suggest that Kompas.com tends to support governor Anis Baswedan's policy of quarantine the DKI Jakarta area, then Kompas.com does not meet the principle of accuracy in running disaster journalism because it does not verify data.

The mediatisation of political communication indicates two main functions of the mass media: they report on events from the world of politics and create the images of political actors in the eyes of the public. I attempt to answer the question: can one talk about respecting the basic principles of journalistic ethics (the truth and the objectivity principles) in the times of the mediatisation of the public sphere? The theme of the article applies to terrorism, which is a form of political communication, having its own special expression. The activities of terrorist organisations influence the actions of the leaders of political life, citizens and the mass media. The research material consisted of Polish opinion-making weeklies Newsweek Polska and Polityka and national dailies in their printed versions: Gazeta Wyborcza and Rzeczpospolita. The time frame covered a period from 1 November 2015 to 11 December 2015. The topic of the article was treated as a case study.

The Alt-Right increased its national profile during the 2016 presidential election based on its support of Donald Trump. This research becomes more salient with the media continuing to face similar challenges in framing far-right groups. The Alt-Right, like other Far Right groups worldwide, has moderated their framing to hide racist ideology. Therefore, the challenge of this article is to learn if the media allow newer far-right conservative groups to self-frame even against the advice from the Associated Press. This study uses qualitative framing analysis through grounded theory to review the coverage of the Alt-Right as a manner of examining if the group was successful in advancing its desired frames into mainstream media coverage. The results of this study suggest overall the Alt-Right was successful in reducing a direct discussion about the racist beliefs of the group within press coverage. This study continues in the tradition of framing studies of the past yet moves the genre forward as journalists negotiate increasing polarised and fragmented political communication.
