GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS: THE BUBBLE EFFECT IN INDONESIA

US and Indonesia stock markets are entering record heights without being offset by economic growthand profitability growth of their traded companies. There are several indicators for the stock marketbubble: (1) Price Ratio (Ear Ratio); (2) Price Ratio / Book (PB Ratio), the latter comparing thenominal price of one share at a market with the book value (the value of company's assets). Thecurrent PB ratio of the composite stock price index being 3.3 means that for each shares the assetvalue of which is 1 IDR, the stock would be worth 3.3 IDR. This is one of the most expensive price in the world today. Based on the above, for Indonesian stock market sharp decline is just a matter of time and waiting. This decline will be much sharper if triggered by the US financial crisis. We can also also see a bubble emerging from increasingly irrational investment attitudes. Currently, in addition to high prices for stocks and bonds, investors have started looking at investment opportunities in digital currencies. This research tries to know the potential of financial crisis and itseffect for the financial market in Indonesia.

<p>The global economic crisis has become a nightmare for other countries when the crisis is originated from a multipower country. A financial crisis that hit European countries (Greece) in 2010 and the United States (US) in 2011 can be categorized as a financial crisis caused by a high state’s debt that leads to default. The response to the financial crisis is reflected in capital market players’ reactions, where other countries will respond to a particular endemic financial crisis. The objectives of this research are (1). Analyze the Impulse Response Function (IRF) of the Composite Stock Price Index of the US on Composite Stock Price Index in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, and Australia. (2). Analyze the Impulse Response Function (IRF) of the Composite Stock Price Index of Greece on the Composite Stock Price Index in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, and Australia. (3). Analyze the Forecasting Error Variance Decomposition (FEVD) of the Composite Stock Price Index of Indonesia on the Composite Stock Price Index of Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, and Australia. The analysis will be conducted using VAR (Vector Autoregression). The result shows that all variables are responded to the financial crisis that happened in Greece and the US. This is reflected by the shocks created by the financial crisis in ASEAN-5 countries and Australia. On the other hand, the Composite Stock Price Index of Indonesia is also affected by Malaysia and Singapore.</p>

Results of analysis of research data proving that the global financial crisis is significantly affecting the Asia Regional Stock Price Index and the Asia Regional Stock Price Index significantly affect business activities in Indonesia, but the global financial crisis did not significantly affect business activities in Indonesia and simultaneous Global Financial Crisis and the Asia Regional Stock Price Index did not significantly affect the Business activities in Indonesia. This means that business activities in Indonesia are more influenced by the Regional Asia Stock Price Index compared to the direct impact of the global financial crisis. Data analysis tool using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) using Lisrel Software 8.8. Observations were made at the end of each month from January 2004 until June 2010. This study used an exogenous latent variable (the Global Financial Crisis) and two endogenous latent variables (namely JCI Asia Regional and Business in Indonesia). The Global Financial Crisis is measured by two indicator variables namely World Inflation and the Stock Market U.S. Index. JCI Asia Regional measured by four indicator variables namely the China Stock Price Index (Shanghai), Japan Stock Price Index (Nikkei), South Korea Stock Price Index (Kospi), and India Stock Price Index (Bombay), whereas Business in Indonesia is measured by two indicator variables namely the Indonesia Stock Price Index (BEI) and Indonesia's inflation.

The US financial crisis of 2008 and subsequent Global Financial Crisis were considered by many economists the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. As a results, Dodd-Frank Act has passed and aims “(1) to promote the financial stability of the United States by improving accountability and transparency in the financial system, to end "too big to fail", (2) to protect the American taxpayer by ending bailouts, (3) to protect consumers from abusive financial services practices, and for other purposes.” The enactment of Dodd-Frank Act, in part, intended to significantly influence accountability on executive compensation especially for the financial institutions. This paper empirically investigates the changes in Financial CEOs’ compensation since the Financial Crisis of 2008. Our findings show that in the post- Financial Crisis period financial leverage is significant factor influencing the CEOs’ total compensation. In addition market based performance such as stock price and market-to-book ratio shows significant positive relationship with CEO compensation. This change can be interpreted an attempt to reduce opportunistic behavior of top executives after the financial crisis and the enactment of the Dodd-Frank Act

The global financial crisis (GFC) which began in 2007 with a liquidity squeeze in the US banking system and which continues to play out today has affected us all, whether through the collapse of the finance company sector, rising unemployment, falling housing prices or the recession which followed the initial market crash. The speed and scope of the crisis surprised most experts – policy makers included. Specialists from a myriad of disciplines, from economics and finance to risk management, corporate governance and property, are trying to make sense of what happened, why it happened and what it means for us now and into the future. Members of the public rely on the news media to keep them informed of the crisis as it unfolds and they rely on experts to translate these complex events into a language which they can understand. The GFC is educating us all, and it is important that we all learn from it to avoid making the same mistakes again.

The chapter provides an overview of the current state of the reform efforts in the jurisdictions under consideration with a focus on the institutional architecture, banking regulation, shadow banking, and financial market infrastructure. It briefly reviews the generally accepted causes of the global financial crisis and the eurozone crisis, as well as the reform agenda at global/international level. It summarizes the reform efforts in the EU and the US that are of particular relevance for the recovery and resolution of credit institutions and investment firms. These reform efforts form the context in which the new recovery and resolution regime must be viewed.
