The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between investment in working capital measured by trade credit and corporate performance in 463 companies in Indonesia between 2007 and 2017. This research confirms the non-linearity inverted U shape of the link between working capital and corporate performance. It suggests that there is an optimal point of investment that is beneficial for the company. This research also examines the impact of financial constraint and investment level on working capital. Our finding shows that companies that experience financial constraints have lower investment levels than those without financial constraints.

This paper investigates the effect of job satisfaction on a turnover intention at the Star Hotel Semarang. We use 113 respondents using a non-probability sampling method at the Star Hotel Semarang. Using linear regression, we found the negative relationship between job satisfaction and turnover, suggesting a problematic association between job satisfaction and turnover intention. Therefore, our result suggests that other factors could be the obstacles to job satisfaction, such as the nature of the employee's work that was not under the job description, too strict supervision by the superiors, and a very long time to obtain the job promotion.

Aside from identifying the determinants of transfers from children to parents in developing countries like Indonesia, this paper's primary purpose is to examine the effect of education level attainment on the amount of transfer from children to parents. We use the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS-5) data, which covers approximately 34,000 adult individual respondents. Out of all respondents, 16,016 observations met the sample criteria of aged 15 years and older who have parents living outside the household. The result shows that 75% of children provided assistance to parents in the form of money, goods, or labor/time within a year preceding the survey. The average money transfer per year is IDR 1,030,000 (approximately 70 USD), goods transfer worth IDR 303,000 (approximately 20 USD, and 16 days of labor. The result from logistic regression analysis identifies that the determinants of transfers from children to parents are some of the children's characteristics such as education, age, marital status, work, income, and living in urban regions. In addition, from the parent's perspective, parents' characteristics that affect the transfer amount are age, health condition, and widow status.

Escalation of commitment is a form of cognitive bias that has characteristics where decision-makers tend to increase their commitment to an unfavorable investment. This study aims to prove the demographic factors of decision-makers such as work experience and rigid thinking as determinants of escalation of commitment. This research applies a 2 x 2 factorial experimental research design with a case study as an instrument of investment decision making. The participants of this experiment were regular undergraduate students as a proxy for inexperienced decision-makers and non-regular undergraduate students (executive class) as experienced proxy for decision-makers. Participants were selected using a purposive sampling technique with the adequacy criteria for General Point Average (GPA) above 3.00 and have attended and passed the Financial Management course and Theory of Decision Making course. This research uses two-ways ANOVA with a significance level of 5%. Using total 64 respondents, the results showed that work experience and rigid thinking have a significant effect on the escalation of commitment. This study also proves that the interaction between work experience and the rigidity of the decision-making mindset does not affect the level escalation of commitment.

This research aims at examining the potential determinants of overtime risk preference in Indonesia–one of the most diverse countries in the world. We used household and individual data as well, taken from the fourth and fifth wave of the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS). The risk aversion of the individual was observed and elicited using hypothetical gambling questions. From the result of Ordinary Least Square (OLS) estimation, we find preliminary evidence that there is a decrease in risk-aversion among individuals over time. However, there is little evidence that catastrophe will alter risk choice as a proxy for a significant life event. Furthermore, our empirical finding also revealed that risk tolerance is motivated not only by demographic factors but also by the education level and individual’s time preference.

Although the government has allocated cash transfer programs to reduce poverty and improve the education sector, the participation of senior high schools in rural areas in Indonesia is still meager. This research investigates the relationship between conditional cash transfers in Indonesia (Program Indonesia Pintar–PIP and Program Keluarga Harapan–PKH) with high school participation in children in Rural Indonesia. Using the 2018 socioeconomic survey data released by BPS, we found that children benefited from PIP children had a greater opportunity to participate in high school compared to those who did not. On the other hand, children from PKH beneficiary have a lower chance of attending high school, compared to those who come from families who do not receive PKH. Although conditional cash transfers generally have a positive effect on children's school participation, the success of conditional cash transfers relies on the knowledge of the people about the importance of children's education investments, simple program schemes, secure payment schemes, and efficient and effective technology-based controls.

This research study is focused on one social media that starts as an instant messaging app called ABC. ABC is an app originally from Southeast Asia that started to enter the Indonesian market in 2013. It has been struggling to maintain its monthly active user (MAU) during the past few months and wishes to get back on its feet as soon as possible. The problem occurred when it was unable to reach its MAU target which is 92 million in 2017. According to the control chart, it hasn’t quite made a significant improvement since the beginning of 2017. It is also incapable to meet the target. Several projects have been done just as usual to increase the number of MAU, but nothing happens. The number of MAU is going up and down without ever reaching the target. Based on 5 Whys Analysis, the root cause of the problem lies in two factors, the projects are held too often, and the company cannot specialize in each project based on specific target market criteria. The possible solution to implement is that the company should appoint someone to be the project planning coordinator. He or she will manage all executed projects so that they will align together to support company’s mission. Hence, increase the number of MAU as well. In conclusion, this study is aimed to improve the number of Monthly Active Users. This study will use Six Sigma approach to analyze deeply the problem being faced and come up with proposal solution for ABC App to implement in order to increase MAU. This study uses DMAIC method because the method is suitable to improve existing processes. The control phase will also be implemented by using FMEA Table. FMEA Table helps project planning coordinator to control each project so that further risks can be prevented in the beginning.

This study aims to empirically examine the effectiveness of design thinking training to improve the intention to behave innovatively and creatively. The research method used to carry out this research is the Quasi Experiment Method. The results of hypothesis testing using t-test showed that there was no significant difference in creativity scores between before and after the training treatment. This shows that Design Thinking training is not effective in increasing creativity. However, the two alternative hypotheses were tested using t-test showed that there were significant differences scores of innovative behavior intention before and after treatment of Design Thinking. This shows that Design Thinking training is effective in increasing the intention to behave innovative. This research is expected to contribute studies on the effectiveness of the Design Thinking training method and produce a training module that can be used in the entrepreneurial learning process. Based on the results of this study, Design Thinking training can be used as a method to encourage innovative behavior.

intensi berperilaku inovatif, kreativitas, design thinking, pelatihan design thinking

Operating in the competitive dual banking market, Islamic banks’ behavior often mimics conventional banks. One of the ways to do this is by managing their earnings so that their deposit rate of return could be closely pegged to the conventional banks’ deposit interest rate. Farook et al. (2012) define this term as “profit distribution management” or PDM. This paper investigates whether PDM practice in Islamic banks is affected by their market power. Using a sample of Islamic banks from 2009 to 2013 from Indonesia, the most populous Muslim country adopting dual banking market, we find that bank with a high market power are less engage in PDM. This means that, when Islamic banks are able to set high price of their banking product in the competitive market, they are already reach specific market position. In this case, Islamic banks is observed manage their earnings but in the lower intensity. We also provide empirical evidence that other factors such as governance structure and market share of Islamic banks are also matter for the PDM. Some policy implications are discussed.
