Fish of choice- An analytical hierarchy process to determine fish consumption in West Bengal

The factors affecting consumers’ decision in selecting most preferredfish species for consumption in Kolkata, West Bengal was explored based on the survey of 250 households, 125 each sourcing the household fish purchase from the traditional fish markets and modern retail outlets for consumption purpose. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used to determine the criteria that influenced choice of most desired fish. Based on the concept of pairwise comparison, the results revealed that choice of fish was influenced by price of fish (9.38 percent), fish quality (58.51 percent) and taste preference (32.12 percent) in the traditional fish market, whereas in modern retail market, choice of fish depended upon price (9.29percent), quality (61.22 percent) and taste (29.50 percent). Considering these criteria, the most desired type of fish based on price was hilsa (44.64 percent) in traditional fish market while in modern retail market, it was rohu (53.25percent). Considering the quality, most preferred fish was hilsa (45.14 and 59.55 percent) in traditional and modern retail markets respectively. Based on taste, the most preferred fish was hilsa (52.12 and 59.01 percent) in both the markets. This paper describedthechoice of preferred fish for consumption based on several identified criteria and served as a guide to both the buyers and sellers of fish and fish products to produce products of desired quality, with a good price in a hygienic condition.

Public awareness about healthy lifestyles leads people to want to understand more about the food they consume. Choosing organic vegetables is one alternative choices when seeking to have a healthy body and healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, not a lot of organic vegetable farmers in Indonesia succeed in seizing the organic vegetable market rather than the non-organic and the competition with imported organic vegetables into Indonesia prevents farmers from thriving. This study aims to: 1) Analyze the factors affecting the competitiveness of the organic vegetables market; 2) Analyze the appropriate strategy for increasing the competitiveness of the organic vegetables market; 3) Analyze the factors priority strategies for improving the competitiveness of the organic vegetables market. Porter's Generic Model and Analysis Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to determine the best strategy. The research found that organic vegetables marketing channels are still dominated by conventional market; the higher cost for intensive cultivation of organic vegetables. The main strategies are derived from the analysis is focusing on market delivery. There needs to be retailers of organic vegetables either modern or traditional to display these products. The establishment of organic vegetable outlets and online marketing that are not dependent on large retail (hypermarket) become recommendations in this study.

This study attempts to use the analytical hierarchy process to choose the most appropriate earthwork machine for slope classes of 30–50% and 50–70%. Required data were collected by pairwise comparison as questionnaires filled by experts of forest engineering. Results showed that cross-sections and grade line (Technical criteria), soil excavation and displacement (Environmental criteria), production rate and multi-application (Operational criteria), production cost (Economic criteria) with the respective weights of 0.345, 0.345, 0.136, 0.058, 0.058 and 0.058 were the most important criteria for choosing the earthwork machines in the slope class of 30–50%. These coefficients for the slope class of 50–70% were 0.329, 0.329, 0.174, 0.056, 0.056 and 0.056, respectively. Overall priority of bulldozer in slope classes of 30–50% and 50–70% was 0.51 and 0.48, respectively. Therefore, in slope class of 30–50% bulldozer and in slope class of 50–70% hydraulic excavator must be selected for earthwork operation.

Purpose: This research aims to analyze the Sensitivity for Prioritization of Storage Hydropower Projects of Nepal. Design/Methodology/Approach: Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) based on Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) has been used for analyzing the Technical, Financial, Policy, Environment factors Sensitivity with pairwise comparison in different multiple criteria. Additionally, the response from the client and expert opinion was conducted. Findings/Result: Technical on first (weightage of 34%), financial on the second (weightage of 25%), environmental on third (weightage of 16%), policy and political on fourth (weightage of 11%), uncertainties on fifth (weightage of 9%), and respondents on sixth (weightage of 5%) are the main the factors. The impact can be explained at 50 % change in weight of respondent Nalsaugad Storage Hydropower Project stands at first rank. If the weightage of respondents changes by 100% then Uttarganga Storage Hydropower Project stands at first rank with respect to respondent factor. The sensitivity analysis with respect to factors was done, which shows no significant difference in the ranking of projects at the base case and at the case of change in weight of factors. Originality/Value: It is action research to assure factors weights Paper Type: Analytical Policy Research
