This study is done to evaluate water quality of the Thamirabarani river, by using Water Quality Index method. The water quality index of the river water was done, by analyzing the physical and chemical parameters of water samples taken at seven locations in Jan 2017 to March 2017, along the through flow path of the river. The analysis results were compared with maximum permissible limit values recommended by WHO and BIS for drinking, irrigation and aquatic life. The water quality for Dinking was assessed utilizing the WQI technique. The computed WQI values in this study are found to be between 55.65 to 23.3(for drinking), 47.1 to 14.4 (for Irrigation) and 61.2 to 15.4(for Aquatic life).The results are indicates that, for the stretch of Tamirabarani where study was conducted, the water is suited for irrigation.

Water quality index (WQI) is a unique value indicator used to assess overall water quality in a single term. [1]This study aims to assess the water quality of Shatt al Arab (south of Iraq) for drinking purposes for the period 2014-2018 using the weighted arithmetic WQIR method. Samples were taken from five monitoring stations on Shatt al Arab and fourteen physical and chemical parameters were analyzed. Spatial analyses were done using the Geographic Information System (GIS) to map the water quality index results. More river parts were found to be between good and poor qualities in 2014 whereas all of them were unsuitable for drinking in 2017 and 2018

In this study Water Quality Index (WQI) was applied in Hemren Lake, Diyala province, Iraq using ten water quality parameters (pH, Electrical Conductivity, Hardness, Total Dissolve Soluble, Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Chloride, Phosphate) from 2008 to 2010 to evaluate the suitability of Hemren Lake ecosystem for drinking and irrigation uses. The Weighted Arithmetic Index method (WAM) and the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment Water Quality Index methodology (The CWQI 1.0 model) were used to calculate the water quality index (W.Q.I). The results indicated that drinking water quality of Hemren Lake is good and marginal for the study period according to (WAM) and (CCME) respectively, while the irrigation water quality is good and according to (WAM) and (CCME). It is suggested that monitoring of the lake is necessary for proper management. Application of the WQI is also suggested as a very helpful tool that enables the public and decision makers to evaluate water quality of lakes in Iraq.

Abstract River water quality is one of the foremost concerns now a days as it plays a significant role in human and aquatic life. Mayur River, located on the northwestern side of the Khulna city, is important from numerous points of view like freshwater reservoir, navigation, water source for irrigation, ground for fishing and the main wastewater route of Khulna city. However along with human interruption, the unplanned and untreated crude dumping of domestic, industrial and household waste into it, the natural flow of the river is totally retarded and the river water quality has been degraded on a large scale due to water pollution. This pollution has colossal negative impact on day to day life of the inhabitants living alongside of this river as they use this water for domestic and sometimes drinking purposes. That is where the significance of assessing the water quality of Mayur River has come from. The core objectives of this study is to assess the water quality of Mayur River and to develop a model using statistical analysis between water quality parameters (WQP) and water quality index (WQI) to interpret relationship among them. Water quality was assessed on the basis of WQI calculation using National Sanitary Foundation water quality index method. The temporal WQI value showed that the water quality in Mayur River got worse in dry season than that of wet season due to dilution. Much higher values were obtained in case of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), turbidity, total solids (TS), chloride, phosphate, nitrate and fecal coliform (FC). Pearson correlation coefficient shows negative relationship among temporal average WQI with other parameters except pH. Regression analysis indicates that 99.7% proportion of variance of dependent variable (temporal average WQI) can be predicted from the independent variables (Dissolved Oxygen (% saturation), BOD, turbidity, TS, pH, temperature change, phosphate, nitrate and FC). Total nine prediction equations were formed using regression coefficients that may be helpful to predict the WQI on the basis of WQP in future.

Maluku is one of the archipelago province in Indonesia that has small pelagic fish resources with widespread distribution, such as lompa (Thryssa baelama Forsskål). One of lompa habitat in Mollucas is in Apui coastal areas. The presence of lompa depends on physical and chemical parameters in the waters. This study aims to determine the influence of physical and chemical parameters on the presence of lompa in Apui coastal area Central Mollucas. This study was conducted in June - July 2015. This research is ex-post facto using the value of Environmental Water Quality Index which refers to US-National Sanitation Foundation-Water Quality Index (NSF-WQI). Physical and chemical parameters measured include temperature, velocity, depth, brightness, salinity, pH and dissolved oxygen. The results of calculations with the Indeks Mutu Lingkungan Perairan (IMLP) are 95.61; 92,15; 88.61; 96,37; 93,76; 79.57. And the results of lompa fishing were 181, 162, 205, 173, 184, and 97 respectively. The research conclusion is that the Apui coastal areas are in good condition and potential as lompa habitat.

Abstract Honghu Lake is the largest lake-type wetland in Hubei Province, China. It is also one of the largest shallow lakes in the Yangtze River Economic Zone, a key area in the relatively more developed southeast of China. However, the water quality has seen a deterioration tendency in recent decades, mostly owing to unreasonable human activities such as lake enclosure aquaculture following rapid social and economic development. Based on the water quality index (WQI) method, the water quality of Honghu Lake, by the vast amount of data collected from five observation sites monitored over ten years, was analyzed and evaluated. The results show that: (i) the water quality of Honghu Lake is in the ‘General’ grade as a whole with a WQI value of 43.41 ± 6.66; (ii) the water quality has been improving in the recent two years, reversing its decade-long deterioration; (iii) the water quality sampled at the Lantian site is the worst while that of the Guandun site is the best; (iv) the concentration of Pb and Cd are the key parameters to determine the water quality of Honghu Lake. Therefore, it can be concluded that more attention should be paid to investigate heavy metals in Honghu Lake in the future.

The objectives of this study were to clarify and evaluate the water quality of a number of rivers in East Kalimantan province of Indonesia. For this purpose, our study successfully utilized the benthic macroinvertebrates diversity as well as physical-chemical parameters of river’s water. For instance, based on the values of Average Score per Taxon (ASPT) and the National Sanitation Foundation-Water Quality Index (NSF-WQI), Karang Mumus River was categorized as polluted with Chironomus sp. and Melanoides tuberculata as codominant taxa. In addition, Jembayan River exhibited doubtful or moderate quality containing M. tuberculata and A. parvula as codominant taxa. However, Pampang River was found to be the cleanest river with Odonata and Baetidae families as codominant taxa.

The Lake is an ecosystem of wetlands to note preserved. However, since the Lake is an open system that can also be utilized for the certain provisions tailored to support power and capacity of the Lake. One of the supported power and capacity of the Lake is the availability and quality of the water of the Lake. Sipin lakes located in the city of Jambi, have long been exploited by various parties, just that its utilization is not maximal for a variety of activities. To maximize its utility it is necessary to know the power support and power tampungnya. By knowing the power support and power tampungnya then it can be determined the allocation it is used so that will give you maximum results. One of the variables that need to be taken care of in order to use Sipin Lake against correspond to peruntukkannya is about the availability and quality of water. Study on quantity and quality of water of the Lake can be done by way of Sipin analyzed the data using the method of precipitation F.J. Mock. Water quality studies done by using water quality Index method of electronically Stored. F.J. method using Mock data to analyze rainfall from year 2005 until 2015, obtained that debit maximum inlet reach 4,870 m3/sec and the minimum discharge of 2,090 m3/sec.Method Stored i.e. testing kualiats Sipin lake water from year 2014 2016 disimpulkkan s/d that the water quality of Lake Sipin only in accordance with the requirements of the water quality of the IV. From fluctuations in discharge and water quality of the IV, then Lake peruntukaan Sipin can only be utilized to provide water gardening or urban businesses or other businesses that comply with the requirements of the water quality of the IV.Keywords: Lake, water quantity, water quality, allocation, and utilization.
