The construction industry is considered to be one of the rapidly growing industries of India. So, to fulfil such a vast and constantly increasing construction demand the labour productivity is the key factor to maintain client satisfaction, attract investment, and contribute by helping the nation with its economic growth. Aluminium system formwork is one economical and technical approach to effectively maintain productivity of labours on site. Various research studies have been conducted to compare different types of formwork system and the advantages and disadvantages of each type of formwork system are examined in terms of cost, duration, quality etc. There is no standard procedure to put a number on the efficiency of the site labour, using aluminium formwork system in the industry. So, the primary objective of this study is to find the practical labour productivity in aluminium formwork system and the factors affecting the labour productivity. For this, research is performed on Purva Silversands project, Pune, Maharashtra (Residential Project). Labour productivity and its variations could generate a greater impact on the project economy and project duration. Low productivity can decrease profitability and increases construction cost. This case study shows that the actual productivity observed is less than the target productivity in some of the months, the reasons for variation in target and actual productivity is examined and the factors that hamper the productivity mostly are natural (rain), improper management and any breakdown of machinery. Whereas, the maximum productivity achieved in a month is 10.36 sqm per man per day.

Study of different types of cracks in plain and reinforced concrete subjected to environment full of chloride and carbon laden corrosion problems. It is the most critical global challenge for construction industry which incurred losses more than $100. Cracks are ubiquitous in concrete materials and can destabilize a concrete structure, regardless of size or type. What happens structures are subjected to continuous loading .The study of behavior of structure for development of cracks which may be horizontal, vertical, to cracks possess little fracture energy. While discussing factors affecting cracking corrosion rate is key factor. An accurate method for measuring crack characteristics is presented. Analyzing results show that curves to be plotted for behavioral pattern for crack propagation . The construction industry demands such model to show serviceability of corrosion prone buildings or structures. . RCC structures life can be enhanced by proper maintenance and repairs. . Structures may cause matrix cracks, loading at variable speed due to non adherence of materials . Results studied were analyzed and rechecked by creating simulations of models. Increasing crack width and length lead to new study of infinite plate.

Nuanced explanations of the factors underpinning the mafia’s movements across territories have recently been proposed. However, more light must be shed on the mechanisms through which mafiosi try to infiltrate the legal economy in non-traditional territories. Accordingly, this study aims to micro-found interactions and exchanges that mainly involve mafiosi, politicians and economic actors in expansion areas. Focusing on the local level, we will show how the misuse of several administrative tools generates a profitable opportunity structure for mafiosi. To this end, we present an in-depth comparative case study of three events involving the construction industry that took place in Northern Italy. The main findings show that: (i) mafiosi are skilled at smoothing social relations, enlarging and consolidating opaque networks predating their arrival; (ii) they give rise to different types of mutual exchanges and network structures.

Purpose This paper aims to model different causal relations among factors interacting with labour productivity in order to recognize the most important factors influencing and influenced by it. Design/methodology/approach Top 60 factors affecting labour productivity were determined and grouped into 5 major groups by reviewing previous research and interviewing relevant experts. The interactions of factors were modelled using system dynamics (SD) approach. The resulting causal loop diagrams obtained from SD were then applied for identifying the most crucial factors influencing and influenced by labour productivity through the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method. The impact of factors on each other was finally determined based on the opinions of 63 experts selected from the Iranian construction industry. Findings The results indicated that factors such as fatigue, lack of labour motivation and lack of skill are the most influencing, and factors such as schedule delay and inflation in the cost of execution are the most influenced by labour productivity. In the end, a set of recommendations to improve construction labour productivity was also presented. Originality/value The main contribution of the study is proposing a novel method which is capable of providing insights into how causes and effects of construction labour productivity are interrelated. Furthermore, the proposed method makes this study distinct from previous research in the light of prioritizing factors and offering recommendations according to the interrelationships among factors.

This research study intends to explore teachers' use of tablets to in six EFL classrooms. The case study covers one private primary school in Istanbul, Turkey. Through the analysis of semi-structured interviews, the aim is to find out the factors affecting EFL teachers use of tablets, their attitudes towards using these devices, and the advantages and disadvantages they see in using tablets in their teaching. The study focuses on teachers' perspective as they are by and large ignored when it comes to the introduction of new technologies in educational institutions.

Ropeways usually provide access to locations inaccessible to other means of transport. Due to this fact, the construction of ropeways is extraordinarily taxing in terms of both, technology and logistics. The site location is often in terrain difficult to access, which often precludes deployment of common construction mechanisms in ropeway construction. In such case, it is advisable to deploy a transport mechanism independent of the terrain – a helicopter. Functioning as “flying cranes“, the helicopters have been used in construction industry in Slovakia for six decades now. Having amassed positive experience, even the “conventional“ construction industry of the time, especially its ropeway transport segment, started to use the benefits of helicopters, with helicopter deployment subsequently gaining ground and becoming the mainstream technological procedure. Ropeway construction can hardly be feasible without them even nowadays. Throughout the history of helicopter deployment in construction industry, a constant search of improving the efficiency of their work has been under way, necessitated by the helicopter’s sensitivitiy to weather conditions and work procedures alike. The paper presents an analysis of the factors affecting helicopter operation together with a proposed methodology of modeling their work in simulation models and the benefits of such approach.

There is no doubt that green building will be a trend in the international construction industry. It is crucial to choose the appropriate green building materials, because it acts as key factor to the development of green building. With the brief introduction of two mainstream assessment tools of green building materials in the world and two main evaluation tools that are used in China as well as their advantages and disadvantages, this article is expected to serve as the reference for development of green building materials and the assessment tools in China.

This research aims to give a clear image of coursebook evaluation in the English department of Komar University of Science and Technology (KUST) in Iraqi Kurdistan. The focus of this paper is to show the advantages and disadvantages of six coursebooks that are used in the English department of KUST. For this purpose, the researchers conducted interviews with the instructors and a survey with the students of these courses. These interviews and the survey show the good sides and the shortcomings of the studied coursebooks by asking different types of questions related to the contents of the books. The research took place in Fall-Winter 2019. The study results show that two-thirds of the teachers were satisfied with the coursebooks chosen to teach in the department of English to a large degree, and most of the students were satisfied with their coursebooks.

Variation does not only affect labour productivity but also leads to the dispute, time and cost overrun. Consequently, it affects projects performance. It is, therefore, imperative for construction professionals to eliminate unnecessary additional cost from a project so as to optimize the client’s benefit against input resources. This paper identifies and examines the most significant causes that contribute to the variation orders. Also, Nigerian construction industry is used as a case study. Variation orders causing factors were assessed. Questionnaires were administered to clients, consultants and contractors to elicit information regarding variation causing factors. These factors were analyzed using frequency aggregation, mean score method and subsequently ranked according to their severity. The result revealed three most significant causes of variation which are: ‘Change of plan’’ with the highest frequency of 58% then followed by ‘‘Conflicting contract documents (50%). The next most frequent causing factors were the “substitution of materials” and “change in design” each with frequency of 43%. The least causing factor of variation was the “error and omission in design” with the frequency of 10%. Also differing site condition, new government regulation, weather condition were identified as other cause of variation with the frequency of 27%, 29% and 10% respectively.  It has also shown that most critical source of variation order is the client due to change of plan then followed by consultant due to conflicting contract document.
