Specular reflections have always been undesirable when processing endoscope vision for clinical purpose. Scene afflicted with strong specular reflection could result in visual confusion for the operation of surgical robot. In this paper, we propose a novel model based on deep learning framework, known as Surgical Fix Deep Neural Network (SFDNN). This model can effectively detect and fix the reflection points in different surgical videos hence opening up a whole new approach in handling undesirable specular reflections.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is widely used in wired or wireless transmission systems. In the structure of OFDM, a cycle prefix (CP) has been exploited to avoid the effects of inter-symbol interference (ISI) and inter-carrier interference (ICI). This paper proposes a new approach to transmit the signals without CP transmission. Using the deep neural network, the proposed OFDM system transmits data without the CP. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can estimate the CP at the receiver and overcome the effect of ISI.

The model reduction of a mesoscopic kinetic dynamics to a macroscopic continuum dynamics has been one of the fundamental questions in mathematical physics since Hilbert's time. In this paper, we consider a diagram of the diffusion limit from the Vlasov-Poisson-Fokker-Planck (VPFP) system on a bounded interval with the specular reflection boundary condition to the Poisson-Nernst–Planck (PNP) system with the no-flux boundary condition. We provide a Deep Learning algorithm to simulate the VPFP system and the PNP system by computing the time-asymptotic behaviors of the solution and the physical quantities. We analyze the convergence of the neural network solution of the VPFP system to that of the PNP system via the Asymptotic-Preserving (AP) scheme. Also, we provide several theoretical evidence that the Deep Neural Network (DNN) solutions to the VPFP and the PNP systems converge to the a priori classical solutions of each system if the total loss function vanishes.

Google released on November of 2015 Tensorflow, an open source machine learning framework that can be used to implement Deep Neural Network algorithms, a class of algorithms that shows great potential in solving complex problems. Considering the importance of usability in software success, this research aims to perform a usability analysis on Tensorflow and to compare it with another widely used framework, R. The evaluation was performed through usability tests with university students. The study led do indications that Tensorflow usability is equal or better than the usability of traditional frameworks used by the scientific community.

Image thresholding-based segmentation models play a vital role in the detection of Diabetic retinopathy (DR) on large databases. Most of the conventional segmentation-based classification models are independent of over segmented regions and outliers. Also, these models have less true positive rate and high error rate on different DR feature sets. In order to overcome these problems, a novel filtered based segmentation framework is designed and implemented on the large DR feature space. In this work, a novel image filtering approach, optimal image segmentation approach and hybrid Bayesian deep learning framework are developed on the large DR image databases. Experimental results proved that the proposed filtered segmentation-based Bayesian deep neural network has better accuracy and runtime than the conventional models on different DR variation databases.

Abstract Recommender systems are everywhere books, products, movies, and more. Traditional recommender systems typically use a single criterion in the recommendation, while studies have shown that multi-criteria recommending is more accurate. Novel deep learning techniques have produced remarkable achievements in many fields. The use of such techniques in recommendation systems has started to get attention recently, and several models of recommendation have been proposed based on deep learning. However, there is still no work for using deep learning in hybrid multi-criteria recommender systems. In this work, a model for a hybrid deep multi-criteria recommender system was presented. The model mainly includes two major parts: In the first one, the model obtains the user ID, item ID, and the item metadata to be used as input to a deep neural network in order to predict the criteria ratings. In the second part, the obtained ratings act as an input to another deep neural network, where the overall rating is predicted. Our experiments were conducted on a real-world dataset. They demonstrated the superiority of the proposed novel model over the other models in all measures used to evaluate performance. This indicates the successful use of hybrid deep multi-criteria in the recommendation systems.
