This paper models the operation of Internet 2, the advanced national academic network (RENATA) in Colombia, by as-sessing the fundamental services that it supports and its respective performance. The academic and scientific importance of the article lies on discussing the problem of NRAN networks not being harnessed as scientific tools that may have a domino effect by driving the use of said tools in different education and research centers of the highest level. It is concluded that the connectivity model in the associated networks, i.e., the university networks of every important city within RENATA do not effectively use the advantages of bandwidth capacity, hereby proven with 0.039 Gbps.

Roger Matthews was a British criminologist renowned as a left realist. He was Professor of Criminology at the University of Kent and was part of the National Deviancy Conference. In this interview, Matthews presented a brief context of the British socio-criminological academia in the 1970’s and on. He showed us the academic network between North American and British academics and the rivalry among them. Afterwards, Matthews talked about his impressions on European and Latin American Criminology. His statements led us to reflect about recent debates in the Brazilian criminological field and alert us of some limits of a marginal criminology.

The event, in 2019, featured two actions: a colloquium at the Anhembi-Morumbi University and another colloquium at the University of Brasília, with guests exclusively, who participate as speakers, and in communications at round tables. The participation of listeners is free and seeks to bring researches closer to the institutions involved in Brazil together with Université Paris 8 Vincennes - Saint-Denis, with which we have established effective partnerships for over ten years. The products of these meetings are published in annals, in books and in periodicals. Five research areas have been the focus of the scientific work of the Specola Vaticana (Vatican Observatory) over the past twenty years: planetary sciences, stellar astronomy, extragalactic astronomy, cosmology, and the development of the Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope (vatt). The choice of research program is left to the individual astronomers, all of whom work closely with lay collaborators around the world. Notable, especially in connection with the vatt, is the close coordination of the Specola with the Steward Observatory of the University of Arizona. One unique strength of the Specola is its independence from short-term funding requirements. As a result of its stable funding, Specola astronomers can engage in long-term research programs such as surveys of meteorite properties, exoplanets, stellar clusters, and galaxy clusters, which may take ten or more years to come to fruition. In this way the Specola complements the large research programs of contemporary astronomy.

Over the last four to five decades, high-temperature materials chemistry (HTMC) has become a flourishing area of scientific and applied research, spurred by both a growing demand for new inorganic materials (e.g., oxide and non-oxide modern multifunctional ceramics, intermetallics, and oxidation-resistant alloys) able to withstand extreme thermal and chemical environments and by the recognition that chemical and physical behavior at high temperatures differs from, and cannot be extrapolated from, behavior at temperatures near room temperature. Despite the important role played by HTMC in modern advanced technology and the fundamental differences in behavior encountered at high temperatures, HTMC topics are rarely covered in chemistry and materials science programs at the university level because of a lack of readily accessible resource material - no textbook exists specifically devoted to HTMC topics. IUPAC's Inorganic Chemistry Division sponsored a project to address this gap, resulting in the present report. The report includes an introduction and seven sections covering historical background, chemical behavior of condensed-phase/gas-phase systems at high temperature, basic concepts of materials thermodynamics, experimental techniques, use of thermodynamic data and modeling, vaporization, and decomposition processes, and gas-solid reactions. The ninth section covers more specific topics, primarily concerning applications of high-temperature materials and processes. Each recommended topic is accompanied by a bibliography of helpful references, a short introduction or explanation including the areas of application, and some relevant teaching suggestions. An extensive annotated resource bibliography is an Appendix to the report available as supplementary material.

During the latest years, the robots<strong> </strong>that include mechanisms with Delta 3DOF parallel structure attracted the attention of the university research centers due to their unexploited potential. Besides the advantages given by the Delta 3DOF parallel structure, there is a series of disadvantages too. A significant disadvantage is the fact that the workspace is limited. Under these conditions, the studies on determining and improving the workspace got intensified lately. This work is presenting a study on determining the workspace of a parallel structure Delta 3DOF, by using a method that digitizes the angular position parameters of the active kinematical couplings.

Background: The new media provides a convenient platform to access, use and exchange health information. And as a special group of health care, maternal health care is still of international concern due to their high mortality rate. Scientific research is a good way to provide advice on how to improve maternal health through stringent reasoning and accurate data. However, the dramatic increase of publications, the diversity of themes, and the dispersion of researchers may reduce the quality of information and increase the difficulty of selection. Thus, this study aims to analyze the research progress on maternal health under the global new media environment, exploring the current research hotspots and frontiers. Methods: A scientometric analysis was carried out by CiteSpace5.7.R1. In total, 2270 articles have been further analyzed to explore top countries and institutions, potential articles, research frontiers, and hotspots. Results: The publications ascended markedly, from 29 in 2008 to 472 publications by 2020. But there is still a lot of room to grow, and the growth rate does not conform to the Price’s Law. Research centers concentrated in Latin America, such as the University of Toronto and the University of California. The work of Larsson M, Lagan BM and Tiedje L had high potential influence. Most of the research subjects were maternal and newborn babies, and the research frontiers were distributed in health education and psychological problems. Maternal mental health, nutrition, weight, production technology, and equipment were seemingly hotspots. Conclusion: The new media has almost brought a new era for maternal health, mainly characterized by psychological qualities, healthy and reasonable physical conditions and advanced technology.

Bristol University's Department of Biochemistry has won a prestigious silver SWAN (Scientific Women's Academic Network) award for excellence in recruiting and encouraging women in SET (science, engineering and technology). It is the first biochemistry department in the country to receive the honour. The department has increased the number of female academic staff and significantly increased the number of women applying for, and securing, promotion. Bristol University won a bronze SWAN award last year. Head of Department and Chair of the Biochemical Journal Editorial Board Professor George Banting said: “The department appreciates this external recognition of what it considers to be ongoing good practice within the Department of Biochemistry. The Royal Society's Athena organization is an august body and we are proud to be the first biochemistry department in the country, and the first department in the University of Bristol, to receive a silver SWAN award.” The Biochemist asked him to tell us more.

An advanced technology for measuring track substructure conditions has been developed by Sol Solution in France. This technology, referred to as the PANDA® and Geo-Endoscopy® technique, comprises driving a variable energy cone penetration device into the track substructure using an instrumented anvil to collect strength (and modulus by correlation) profile with depth. Condition monitoring of the track substructure layers is accomplished through insertion of a camera into the same hole, also called Geoendoscopy®. The tests are commonly faster than Dynamic Cone Penetration (DCP) testing and cause negligible damage to the track substructure with the use of light and portable devices. This paper presents data from PANDA® and Geo-Endoscopy® testing efforts recently carried out under the scope of an ongoing research study at the University of Illinois. The primary objective was to relate the substructure layer properties to plastic layer deformations measured through advanced geotechnical instrumentation. Combined analysis of the PANDA®, Geo-Endoscopy®, and field instrumentation data has been used to highlight the reliability of this innovative technique towards improved evaluation of track substructure layer conditions.
