Supplier selection is not an easy process as it typically involves multiple criteria and it requires human judgment. Therefore, there is a need to have a better system for supplier selection due to uncertainty and vagueness that exist in dealing with the multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) problem. This study is aimed to identify the important criteria for the selection of the best pharmaceutical raw materials supplier for XYZ Pharmaceutical Manufacturing company by using Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy VIKOR approaches. Furthermore, this paper also presents the comparison results between the two methods in determining the best supplier. Fuzzy theory was used since it provides a right tool to encounter the uncertainties and complexity of decision making environment. This study investigated eight alternative suppliers based on seven criteria evaluated by two decision makers from the company. This study has successfully identified the top three most important criteria for the selection of supplier, namely, Regulatory Compliance, Price, and Product Variety. This study highlighted that Regulatory Compliance is a new important criterion for the pharmaceutical company to consider in future supplier selection. Based on the alternative results of Fuzzy AHP, it was found that the top three most important supplier were A5, A3 and A1. While based on the alternative results of Fuzzy VIKOR, it showed that the top three most important supplier were A5, A3 and A7. The comparison results between the two methods have shown that the Fuzzy VIKOR method is more suited to the problem of supplier selection.

In the past few decades, there has been lot of focus on the issue of sustainability. This has occurred due to the growing concerns related to climate change and the growing awareness about environmental concerns. Also, the competition at global level has led to the search for the most sustainable route in the industries. The current research work deals with the selection of green supplier in a Nickle coating industry based on certain weighted green attributes. For this purpose, a hybrid tool comprising of Fuzzy AHP (Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy) and VIKOR (VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje) is used. The Fuzzy AHP is used for assigning proper weights to the selected criteria for supplier evaluation, while VIKOR is used for final supplier selection based on the weighted criteria. The three criterions for green supplier selection are, Ecological packaging, Corporate socio-environmental responsibility and Staff Training. The outcome of the integrated model may serve as a steppingstone to other SMEs in different sectors for selecting the most suitable supplier for addressing the sustainability issue.

Total knee replacement (TKR) is a remarkable achievement in biomedical science that enhances human life. However, human beings still suffer from knee-joint-related problems such as aseptic loosening caused by excessive wear between articular surfaces, stress-shielding of the bone by prosthesis, and soft tissue development in the interface of bone and implant due to inappropriate selection of TKR material. The choice of most suitable materials for the femoral component of TKR is a critical decision; therefore, in this research paper, a hybrid multiple-criteria decision-making (MCDM) tactic is applied using the degree of membership (DoM) technique with a varied system, using the weighted sum method (WSM), the weighted product method (WPM), the weighted aggregated sum product assessment method (WASPAS), an evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS), and a technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). The weights of importance are assigned to different criteria by the equal weights method (EWM). Furthermore, sensitivity analysis is conducted to check the solidity of the projected tactic. The weights of importance are varied using the entropy weights technique (EWT) and the standard deviation method (SDM). The projected hybrid MCDM methodology is simple, reliable and valuable for a conflicting decision-making environment.

PurposeDue to stern management policies and increased community attentiveness, sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) performs a vast component in endeavor operation and production management. Sustainable circular supplier selection (SCSS) and evaluation presented the environmental and social concerns in the fields of circular economy and sustainable supplier selection. Choosing the optimal SCSS is vital for organizations to persuade SSCM, as specified in various researches. Based on the subjectivity of human behavior, the selection of ideal SCSS often involves uncertain information, and the Pythagorean fuzzy sets (PFSs) have a huge capability to tackle strong vagueness, uncertainty and inaccuracy in the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) procedure. Here, a framework is developed to assess and establish suitable suppliers in the SSCM and the circular economy.Design/methodology/approachThis paper introduced an extended framework using the evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS) with PFSs and implemented it to solve the SCSS in the manufacturing sector. Firstly, the PFSs to handle the uncertain information of decision experts (DEs) is employed. Secondly, a novel divergence measure and parametric score function for calculating the criteria weights are proposed. Thirdly, an extended decision-making approach, known as PF-EDAS, is introduced.FindingsThe outcomes and comparative discussion show that the developed method is efficient and capable of facilitating the DEs to choose desirable SCSS. Therefore, the proposed framework can be used by organizations to assess and establish suitable suppliers in the SCSS process in the circular economy.Originality/valueSelecting the optimal sustainable circular supplier (SCS) in the manufacturing sector is important for organizations to persuade SSCM, as specified in various research. However, corresponding to the subjectivity of human behavior, the selection of the best SCS often involves uncertain information, and the PFSs have a huge capability to tackle strong vagueness, uncertainty and inaccuracy in the MCDM procedure. Hence, manufacturing companies' administrators can implement the developed method to assess and establish suitable suppliers in the SCSS process in the circular economy.

With respect to multiple criteria group decision-making (MCGDM) problems in which both the criteria weights and the expert weights take the form of crisp numbers and attribute values take the form of interval-valued picture fuzzy uncertain linguistic numbers, some new group decision-making analysis methods are developed. Firstly, some operational laws, expected value, and accuracy function of interval-valued picture fuzzy uncertain linguistic numbers are introduced. Then, an interval-valued picture fuzzy uncertain linguistic averaging and geometric aggregation operators are developed. Furthermore, some desirable properties of the developed operators, such as commutativity, idempotency, and monotonicity, have been studied. Based on these operators, an approach to multiple criteria group decision-making with interval-valued picture fuzzy uncertain linguistic information has been proposed. Finally, a practical example of 3PL supplier selection in logistics service value concretion is taken to test the defined method and to expose the effectiveness of the defined model.
