En el presente estudio se realizó un modelo para la elaboración de un Plan Estratégico Green Information Technology (IT) y Green Business Process Management (BPM), que permite reducir el impacto ambiental y contribuir en la sostenibilidad ambiental de una Institución de Educación Superior, basado en la Planificación Estratégica de TI de Gartner, COBIT 5 (Control Objectives for Information and related Technology) y las acciones de gobernanza de la ISO/IEC 38500 y la ISO 14031. Se establecieron 4 etapas Green: Evaluación de la Situación Actual, Dirección del Modelo de Negocios, Planeación Estratégica de adquisición, implementación y soporte y Monitorización del desempeño. Además, se diseñó una guía cuantitativa y cualitativa para determinar el nivel de sostenibilidad e interoperabilidad obtenido en cada etapa. Para la Sostenibilidad se definió los indicadores: económico con un 35% y de personas con un 25%, para la Interoperabilidad: de ingeniería y de procesos con 15% y de infraestructura con 10%. Como consecuencia de que en Ecuador no se cuenta con un marco legal que regule las acciones de Gobernabilidad Green IT de las Instituciones de Educación Superior y las investigaciones sobre Green BPM son limitadas, no se ha estructurado un Plan Estratégico Institucional productivo y responsable con el medio ambiente y que, además, sirva de base en la planificación y gestión de las operaciones y recursos informáticos. Es así que el diseño del modelo permite la alineación de los indicadores que favorecen al ahorro económico, un cambio del paradigma social/ambiental y responsabilidad de la arquitectura tecnológica. Asimismo, con la flexibilidad del modelo se podrán agregar nuevos indicadores de rendimiento ambiental (Green KPI) según las necesidades.

Esta pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar aspectos particulares da gestão da Educação a Distância e demonstrar como a gestão por processos e os projetos de transformação de negócios podem agilizar, inovar e melhorar a eficácia das operações e a qualidade dos produtos e serviços. A pesquisa foi realizada com base nos conceitos de Business Process Management e Business Transformation, e análise do mercado do Ensino Superior, através da reflexão e compreensão das dificuldades enfrentadas e desafios da gestão no âmbito da modalidade de ensino a distância. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa descritiva, por método hipotético-indutivo, realizada através da observação, registro, análise e interpretação do cenário e mercado da Educação a Distância, focada no caráter subjetivo do objeto analisado, cujo estudo aborda as suas particularidades e experiências individuais. As informações e dados foram obtidos através do levantamento bibliográfico de publicações impressas e eletrônicas, principalmente dos três últimos Censos, Relatórios Analíticos da Educação Superior e, especificamente, da Educação a Distância. Esta pesquisa não propõe um modelo de gestão por processos, pois exige análise da estrutura e planejamento estratégico específicos de uma organização.PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Educação a distância. Transformação de negócios. Reconsidering the Management of Distance Education from the Analysis of the Advantages of Business Transformation Projects by means of Processes and Digitization: Focus on Challenges and Opportunities in the Brazilian Scenario.ABSTRACTThis research aims to analyze particular aspects of distance education management and demonstrate how Business Process Management and Business Transformation projects can streamline, innovate and improve the effectiveness of operations, and product quality and service. The research was carried out based on the concepts of Business Process Management and Business Transformation, and analysis of the Higher Education market, through the reflection and understanding of the difficulties faced and management challenges in the scope of distance learning. This is a descriptive qualitative research, using a hypothetical-inductive method, accomplished through the observation, recording, analysis and interpretation of the scenario and market of Distance Education, focused on the subjective character of the analyzed object, whose study approaches its particularities and individual experiences. The information and data were obtained through a bibliographical survey of printed and electronic publications, mainly the last three Censuses, Analytical Reports of Higher Education and, specifically, Distance Education. This research does not propose a business process management model, because requires analysis of the structure and strategic planning of an organization.Keywords: Distance education. La investigación se realizó en base a los conceptos de gestión de procesos empresariales y la transformación del negocio, y el análisis del mercado de la educación superior, a través de la reflexión y la comprensión de las dificultades y los retos de gestión en el ámbito de esta modalidad enseñanza. Se trata de una investigación cualitativa descriptiva, para el método hipotético-inductivo, llevado a cabo mediante la observación, registro, análisis e interpretación de lo escenario y el mercado de la educación a distancia, enfocado en el carácter subjetivo del objeto analizado, cuyo estudio aborda sus particularidades y experiencias individuales. Las empresas, a nivel global, tienden a una mayor dependencia de las Tecnologías de la Información (TI), no solo para el mantenimiento operativo de las instancias de la organización, sino también para el aumento de valor a la empresa por medio de la explotación de datos y sobre todo bajo el análisis y optimización de sus procesos. La metodología Business Process Management (BPM), al combinarlas con las buenas prácticas propuestas por Information Technology  Infrastructure Library (ITIL), permite la posibilidad de aumentar el valor de la entidad por medio de la mejora y adaptación de los procesos desde una perspectiva más ágil, automatizada y robusta con la capacidad de adaptación al cambio, permitiendo a las organizaciones orientar sus procesos al cliente.

Introduction. Contemporary market realia urge companies towards a transition from functional to process-based management, with processes as the key object of control. Effective business process management enables organizations to reduce costs and increase profitability. In case the management vector is shifted towards a company’s business process development, that involves constant monitoring and optimization, it will also contribute to gaining long-term sustainable competitive advantage. Since modern business environment is intrinsically inseparable from scientific information and intellectual attainments and their implementation results (information technology), management of business process development must be supplemented by powerful information support.The research objective is to provide deeper insights into conceptual framework and structural components of the information support system to facilitate enterprise business process development management as well as to identify the key factors to be considered when designing information software.Research methods. The following methods were used within the current study: comparison, systematic approach, analysis, modeling, synthesis and analytical framework.Findings. Modern approaches to building information support framework for an enterprise as a whole. The importance to provide a description of business processes is argued to design an effective information support system for business processes and their development management mechanism. An author’s original model of information support structure for business process management has been suggested.Conclusions. Complete and accurate information support for business processes is critical to ensure their effective operation. The information support for ensuring business process development management mechanism encompasses the formation and subsequent functioning of the overall system which includes information resources, information technology, software, and corresponding personnel, with following up further division by information support subsystems for providing in-depth analysis and ease of convenience, i.e. the information platform of the of business process development management mechanism.

Purpose Green Business Process Management (BPM) focusses on the ecological impact of business processes. Although it is an emerging field, different attitudes exist towards the discipline’s name, the objectives and the approaches to realise them. By means of a systematic literature review, the purpose of this paper is to arrive at a common understanding of the discipline for successful development. Design/methodology/approach The review methodology relies on a hermeneutic framework which integrates the search, analysis and interpretation of the literature. The sample is used in a text analysis to find an appropriate definition (RQ1), a bibliometric analysis to give insights in current Green BPM contributions (RQ2) and a content analysis to present differences with conventional BPM (RQ3). Findings Green BPM follows a similar development as conventional BPM, namely from a more technical perspective to also including the managerial perspective. More research is required that goes beyond the traditional business process lifecycle. Originality/value The research questions generated a comprehensive overview about application domains and research topics, which in turn can deliver benefits for both research and practitioner-related communities. Researchers identify future research avenues, while practitioners find appropriate Green BPM techniques for their domain.

The concept of Green Information Technology (Green IT) has been widely discussed in recent times, but the question of how a firm can afford to implement Green IT in both IT and other business operations has yet to be examined. In addition, the question of whether Green IT has made any significant contributions towards competitive advantage in organizations has not yet been studied. This study attempts to bridge this gap by viewing Green IT capability from the lens of Natural Resource-Based View. The two constructs derived from this theory, namely, as pollution prevention and product stewardship are discussed in this paper. Its application is extended into the IT context with reference to Green IT literature. This occurs among an early review of the utilisation of these constructs particularly for Green IT process management. The implications of the outcome of this study, both for the IS researchers and for the practicing managers, are discussed.
