This paper presents the synthesis and characterization of three complexes of Mn (II,III), with the a-ketoglutaric acid (H2A) and 1- (o-tolyl) biguanide (TB) as ligands. The complexes corresponding formulas are: [Mn(TB)2(H2A)]Cl2 . 0.5C2H5OH (C1), [Mn2(TB)(A)(H2A)2(H2O)2(NO3)2](NO3)2. C2H5OH (C2) and [Mn2(TB)(A)(H2A)2(H2O)2(CH3COO)2](CH3COO)2 . 3H2O (C3), where A is H2A without 2 protons. C1-C3 compounds were characterized by standard physico-chemical methods: chemical elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, molar conductivity and thermal analysis. For the obtained C1-C3 complexes, but also for the ligands (H2A and TB) was tested the antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and antitumor activity on HeLa tumour cells. It has been observed a moderate cytotoxic effect of the complexes C1-C3 on growth and metabolic activity of HeLa cells, while the ligands show a very weak effect on them. The obtained complexes inhibits the adhesion on the substrate of bacterial strains Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomona aeruginosa, which recommends them for possible therapeutic applications.

In the reaction between 2-hydroxy-N-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-benzamide and chloro-acetic acid ethyl ester, [2-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenylcarbamoyl)-phenoxy]-acetic acid ethyl ester was obtained. The ethyl ester was condensed with hydrazine giving 2-hydrazinocarbonylmethoxy-N-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-benzamide. This hydrazide is considered the key intermediate for the synthesis of new compounds. So, in the reaction between hydrazide and chloro-substituted benzaldehydes hydrazones were obtained. In order to establish their structures, all new synthesized compounds were analyzed by modern physico-chemical methods (FTIR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, MS).

Complexes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) with 3-salicylidenehydrazono-2-indolinone were prepared. Their structure was established to be [MLCl].Cl by using elemental analysis and molar conductivity, as well as AA, FTIR, UV/VIS and 1H-NMR spectroscopic methods. The spectral studies indicated a square-planar geometry for the Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes and a tetrahedral one for the Co(II) and Zn(II) complexes. The complexes were tested for antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus D, Proteus mirabilis, Escherichia coli, Bacillus anthracis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans.

New (pentulose-?-lactone-2,3-enedibenzoate barbituric acid) (L) have been synthesized by reaction of (5-C-dimethyl malonyl-pentulose-?-lactone-2,3-enedibenzoate) with urea in alkaline media (sodium methoxide). (Ca+2, Co+2, Ni+2, Cu+2, Zn+2, Cd+2 and Hg+2) complexes of (pentulose-?-lactone-2,3-enedibenzoate barbituric acid) (L) have been prepared and characterized by (1H and 13CNMR), FTIR, (U.V-Vis) spectroscopy, Atomic absorption spectrophotometer (A.A.S), Molar conductivity measurements and Magnetic moment measurements, and the following general formula has been given for the prepared complexes [MLCl2(H2O)].XH2O, where M = (Ca+2, Co+2, Ni+2, Cu+2, Zn+2, Cd+2, Hg+2), X = five molecules with (Cd+2) complex, L = (pentulose-?-lactone-2,3-enedibenzoate barbituric acid).

A series of palladium(II) halo complexes of the types[PdX2L2].nH2O {n = 0, X = Cl, L = L4and L6; X = Br, L = L3,L4, L5 and L6; n = 2, X = Cl, L = L3and L7, X = Br, L = L1};Pd2X4L2 {X = Cl, Br, L = L2 and L8} and Pd2X4L3 [X = Cl, L= L1; X = Br, L = L7] were prepared where L is 6-R-5,6-dihydrobenzoimidazo quinazoline (R-Diq; where R =phenyl: L1/furyl: L2/thiophenyl: L3/o- or phydroxyphenyl: L4, L5/o- or p-chlorophenyl: L6,L7/dimethylaminophenyl: L8and characterized byelemental analyses, molar conductivity measurements,TGA, infrared, electronic, NMR and mass spectraltechniques. Based on these studies, monomeric/dimericstructure with a square planar geometry around the metalion was proposed for these complexes. Anti-microbialactivity for some of the synthesized complexes wereinvestigated.Keywords: dihydrobenzoimidazoquinazoline, palladium(II),thermal analysis, mass spectra, biological activity.

synthesis and characterization of a new chromium- calcium titanate red ceramic pigment is described in this communication. The pigment is based on the solid solution of chromium (IV) in calcium titanate and was characterized as red-brown pigment in a CaO-ZnO-SiO2 transparent glaze used for ceramic tiles (1080°C). XRD, UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy and CIE-L*a*b* techniques of characterization have been employed. The L*a*b* valour of the optimal pigment with 0,015 mol/mol of chromium fired at 1100°C with a soaking time of 3 hours and 5% weight added to the transparent glaze is 59.3/12.5/9.5. Likewise 5%w. addition of NHCl used as flux agent increase b* and decrease L* valour (L*a*b*=45.2/15.3/5.3).
