The aim of this paper is the evaluation of the trophic status of three lakes riparian to the Colentina River, namely Mogosoaia, Herastrau, Pantelimon, as Part III of an extended study on evaluation of the freshwater resources quality in Bucharest and surrounding areas [1, 2], supplementing the general quality assessment based on indices and indexes presented in Part I with a more in depth analysis of nutrient speciation and partitioning between water and upper sedimentary layers. Water and sediment samples were taken from the inlet and outlet areas of each lake in two sampling campaigns in July 2016 and September 2016. Some of the nutrient related water quality parameters presented in Part I of this series have been used here, together with the analysis of total nitrogen and total phosphorus content in sediments, to assess the general trophic state of the lakes and to highlight the relationships between the nitrogen and the phosphorus content from water and sediments.The studied lakes were found to be eutrophic, Mogosoaia and Pantelimon being in the most advanced state. A significant amount of nitrogen and phosphorus was detected in all sediments analysed, constituting a high accumulation of nutrients from anthropogenic activities. Actions to improve local sanitation infrastructure and to prevent anaerobic leakage of nutrients from sedimentary deposits are recommended.

The quality assessment of the aquatic environment from some freshwater resources situated in Bucharest and Ilfov County - Romania has been performed in an extended study and data obtained will be presented in several papers. This first paper presents a case study on water quality assessment of the Mogosoaia, Herastrau and Pantelimon Lakes, lakes built on the Colentina River. Two water and sediment sampling campaigns were conducted in the summer and autumn 2016, 29 specific parameters were determined for water samples and heavy metals content for sediment samples. The obtained results for water samples allowed the classification of lakes water in quality classes and the heavy metals values for sediments were compared to the standards of chemical quality, according to the national legislation M.O. 161/2006. Furthermore, for an overview of water quality, the Water Quality Index (WQI) method was used, where the indicators were grouped into two categories: the first category took into account 18 quality parameters (WQI-1) and the second considered heavy metals content (WQI-2).

The water quality assessment of Arges River and its tributary Dambovita River is presented in this paper as second part of an extended study on the evaluation of some freshwater resources quality located in Bucharest and surrounding areas [1]. This case study was carried out mainly for the water in the confluence area of Arges and Dambovita rivers, where a water and sediment sampling campaign was organized in June 2018. 21 quality parameters were determined for water samples and for the sediment samples the heavy metals content was evaluated. The results of the water samples analysis allowed the framing in quality classes, and for sediment samples the values obtained were compared with the chemical quality standards for sediments, according to the current national regulations. Following the assessment, it was established that the freshwaters in both Arge� River and Dambovita River, downstream the confluence with the Dambovita River are loaded with different pollutants, such as organic substances and nutrients leading to a lower water quality classification.

The paper offers an automated expert-analytical method for evaluating product quality. The theoretical basis of the method is considered. It is shown that when forming the defining quality parameters, it is necessary to first formulate the goals of functioning of competing products and their enlarged components, paying special attention to the issues of ensuring the reliability and safety of the systems in which the products are used. The expert method of quality assessment is used, based on the application of generalized experience and intuition of a group of expert specialists. The processing of the results of the questionnaire of experts included primarily a statistical analysis of the reliability and consistency of the estimates. Organizational measures have been developed to complete the task. In connection with the multivariance of this problem, the proposed method allows to increase the reliability and efficiency of obtaining assessments of the quality of competing products. The proposed methodology of expert-analytical assessment of quality indicators makes it possible to more in-depth analysis, in particular, on the basis of the data obtained, it is possible to trace by which indicators a particular product gained an advantage, or vice versa lost to competitors.The scope of this technique can be extended to any product in solving problems of assessing their quality and competitiveness.

Abstract Anthropogenic activities such as industrial, domestic, and shipping are the main contributors to the entry of heavy metals into the Banten Bay and the surrounding areas. This research was conducted from August to October 2020 in the coastal waters of Bojonegara, Banten Bay. This study aims to estimate the accumulation of heavy metals (Hg, Cd, Pb and, Cu) contained in long whiskered catfish (Mystus gulio Hamilton, 1822) and to determine the tolerance limit for consumption the fish in the Bojonegara coastal waters of Banten Bay. Fish samples were taken using the purposive sampling once per month. Based on the analysis, the heavy metal content in the fish meat were <0.001 mg/kg (Hg), <0.005 mg/kg (Cd), <0.030 mg/kg (Pb) and 0.699-10.920 mg/kg (Cu); the values were less than NADFC of Indonesia (2018) and the Regulation of the Minister of Health Republic of Indonesia 382/1989 with a standard of 0.500 mg/kg (Hg), 0.100 mg/kg (Cd), 0.200 mg/kg (Pb), 20 mg/kg (Cu). The fish caught in Bojonegara Coastal Waters of Banten Bay have moderate to high accumulation levels of Copper (Cu). The safety level for Mystus gulio is 16.03 kg fish/week (for adults) and 4.81 kg fish/week (for children).

The technological beet quality has been always important for the processors of sugar beet. An investigation into the development of the beet quality in the Netherlands since 1980 has shown that beet quality has improved significantly. Internal quality parameters that are traditionally determined in the beet laboratory, i.e. sugar content, Na, K and -aminoN, all show an improving trend over the years. In the factories, better beet quality has led to lower lime consumption in the juice purification and significantly higher thick juice purity. In 2013, Suiker Unie introduced the serial analysis of the glucose content in beet brei as part of the routine quality assessment of the beet. The invert sugar content is subsequently calculated from glucose content with a new correlation. The background, the trial phase and the first experiences with the glucose analyzer are discussed.

Increasing levels of freshwater contaminants, mainly due to anthropogenic activities, have resulted in a great deal of interest in finding new eco-friendly, cost-effective and efficient methods for remediating polluted waters. The aim of this work was to assess the feasibility of using a green microalga Desmodesmus sp., a cyanobacterium Nostoc sp. and a hemicryptophyte Ampelodesmos mauritanicus to bioremediate a water polluted with an excess of nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) and heavy metals (copper and nickel). We immediately determined that Nostoc sp. was sensitive to metal toxicity, and thus Desmodesmus sp. was chosen for sequential tests with A. mauritanicus. First, A. mauritanicus plants were grown in the ‘polluted’ culture medium for seven days and were, then, substituted by Desmodesmus sp. for a further seven days (14 days in total). Heavy metals were shown to negatively affect both the growth rates and nutrient removal capacity. The sequential approach resulted in high metal removal rates in the single metal solutions up to 74% for Cu and 85% for Ni, while, in the bi-metal solutions, the removal rates were lower and showed a bias for Cu uptake. Single species controls showed better outcomes; however, further studies are necessary to investigate the behavior of new species.
